2021-01-21usb: typec: tcpm: AMS and Collision AvoidanceKyle Tso
This patch provides the implementation of Collision Avoidance introduced in PD3.0. The start of each Atomic Message Sequence (AMS) initiated by the port will be denied if the current AMS is not interruptible. The Source port will set the CC to SinkTxNG if it is going to initiate an AMS, and SinkTxOk otherwise. Meanwhile, any AMS initiated by a Sink port will be denied in TCPM if the port partner (Source) sets SinkTxNG except for HARD_RESET and SOFT_RESET. 2021-01-21mhi: use irq_flags if controller driver configures itCarl Huang
If controller driver has specified the irq_flags, mhi uses this specified irq_flags. Otherwise, mhi uses default irq_flags. The purpose of this change is to support one MSI vector for QCA6390. MHI will use one same MSI vector too in this scenario. In case of one MSI vector, IRQ_NO_BALANCING is needed when irq handler is requested. The reason is if irq migration happens, the msi_data may change too. However, the msi_data is already programmed to QCA6390 hardware during initialization phase. This msi_data inconsistence will result in crash in kernel. Another issue is in case of one MSI vector, IRQF_NO_SUSPEND will trigger WARNINGS because QCA6390 wants to disable the IRQ during the suspend. To avoid above two issues, QCA6390 driver specifies the irq_flags in case of one MSI vector when mhi_register_controller is called. 2021-01-20tty: convert tty_ldisc_ops 'read()' function to take a kernel pointerLinus Torvalds
The tty line discipline .read() function was passed the final user pointer destination as an argument, which doesn't match the 'write()' function, and makes it very inconvenient to do a splice method for ttys. This is a conversion to use a kernel buffer instead. NOTE! It does this by passing the tty line discipline ->read() function an additional "cookie" to fill in, and an offset into the cookie data. The line discipline can fill in the cookie data with its own private information, and then the reader will repeat the read until either the cookie is cleared or it runs out of data. The only real user of this is N_HDLC, which can use this to handle big packets, even if the kernel buffer is smaller than the whole packet. 2021-01-20bpf: Split cgroup_bpf_enabled per attach typeStanislav Fomichev
When we attach any cgroup hook, the rest (even if unused/unattached) start to contribute small overhead. In particular, the one we want to avoid is __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_skb which does two redirections to get to the cgroup and pushes/pulls skb. Let's split cgroup_bpf_enabled to be per-attach to make sure only used attach types trigger. I've dropped some existing high-level cgroup_bpf_enabled in some places because BPF_PROG_CGROUP_XXX_RUN macros usually have another cgroup_bpf_enabled check. I also had to copy-paste BPF_CGROUP_RUN_SA_PROG_LOCK for GETPEERNAME/GETSOCKNAME because type for cgroup_bpf_enabled[type] has to be constant and known at compile time. 2021-01-20bpf: Try to avoid kzalloc in cgroup/{s,g}etsockoptStanislav Fomichev
When we attach a bpf program to cgroup/getsockopt any other getsockopt() syscall starts incurring kzalloc/kfree cost. Let add a small buffer on the stack and use it for small (majority) {s,g}etsockopt values. The buffer is small enough to fit into the cache line and cover the majority of simple options (most of them are 4 byte ints). It seems natural to do the same for setsockopt, but it's a bit more involved when the BPF program modifies the data (where we have to kmalloc). The assumption is that for the majority of setsockopt calls (which are doing pure BPF options or apply policy) this will bring some benefit as well. Add custom implementation of getsockopt hook for TCP_ZEROCOPY_RECEIVE. We skip generic hooks for TCP_ZEROCOPY_RECEIVE and have a custom call in do_tcp_getsockopt using the on-stack data. This removes 3% overhead for locking/unlocking the socket. 2021-01-20trace: bpf: Allow bpf to attach to bare tracepointsQais Yousef
Some subsystems only have bare tracepoints (a tracepoint with no associated trace event) to avoid the problem of trace events being an ABI that can't be changed. >From bpf presepective, bare tracepoints are what it calls RAW_TRACEPOINT(). Since bpf assumed there's 1:1 mapping, it relied on hooking to DEFINE_EVENT() macro to create bpf mapping of the tracepoints. Since bare tracepoints use DECLARE_TRACE() to create the tracepoint, bpf had no knowledge about their existence. By teaching bpf_probe.h to parse DECLARE_TRACE() in a similar fashion to DEFINE_EVENT(), bpf can find and attach to the new raw tracepoints. Enabling that comes with the contract that changes to raw tracepoints don't constitute a regression if they break existing bpf programs. We need the ability to continue to morph and modify these raw tracepoints without worrying about any ABI. Update Documentation/bpf/bpf_design_QA.rst to document this contract. 2021-01-20RDMA/umem: Support importing dma-buf as user memory regionJianxin Xiong
Dma-buf is a standard cross-driver buffer sharing mechanism that can be used to support peer-to-peer access from RDMA devices. Device memory exported via dma-buf is associated with a file descriptor. This is passed to the user space as a property associated with the buffer allocation. When the buffer is registered as a memory region, the file descriptor is passed to the RDMA driver along with other parameters. Implement the common code for importing dma-buf object and mapping dma-buf pages. Some brcmstb drivers may be shared with other SoC families. E.g. the same USB PHY block is shared by brcmstb and BCM4908. To avoid building brcmstb common code on non-brcmstb platforms we need stubs for: 1. brcmstb_get_family_id() 2. brcmstb_get_product_id() (to avoid "undefined reference to" errors). A dummy zero bit is sent preceding the data during a read transfer by the Microchip 93LC46B eeprom (section 2.7 of[1]). This results in right shift of data during a read. In order to ignore this bit a quirk can be added to send an extra zero bit after the read address. Add a quirk to ignore the zero bit sent before data by adding a zero bit after the read address. Existing header file design of having separate SoC specific header files for the common lpass driver has mutiple issues. This design is prone to break as an when new SoC header is added as the common DAI ids of other SoCs will be overwritten by the new ones. One of them surfaced by recent patch that adds support to sc7180, this one totally broke LPASS drivers on other Qualcomm SoCs. Before this gets worst, fix this by having a common header qcom,lpass.h. This should fix the issue and any new DAI ids should be added to the common header. This will be more sustainable then the existing design! 2021-01-20mm: Allow architectures to request 'old' entries when prefaultingWill Deacon
Commit 5c0a85fad949 ("mm: make faultaround produce old ptes") changed the "faultaround" behaviour to initialise prefaulted PTEs as 'old', since this avoids vmscan wrongly assuming that they are hot, despite having never been explicitly accessed by userspace. The change has been shown to benefit numerous arm64 micro-architectures (with hardware access flag) running Android, where both application launch latency and direct reclaim time are significantly reduced (by 10%+ and ~80% respectively). Unfortunately, commit 315d09bf30c2 ("Revert "mm: make faultaround produce old ptes"") reverted the change due to it being identified as the cause of a ~6% regression in unixbench on x86. Experiments on a variety of recent arm64 micro-architectures indicate that unixbench is not affected by the original commit, which appears to yield a 0-1% performance improvement. Since one size does not fit all for the initial state of prefaulted PTEs, introduce arch_wants_old_prefaulted_pte(), which allows an architecture to opt-in to 'old' prefaulted PTEs at runtime based on whatever criteria it may have. alloc_set_pte() has two users with different requirements: in the faultaround code, it called from an atomic context and PTE page table has to be preallocated. finish_fault() can sleep and allocate page table as needed. 2021-01-20c6x: remove architectureArnd Bergmann
The c6x architecture was added to the kernel in 2011 at a time when running Linux on DSPs was widely seen as the logical evolution. It appears the trend has gone back to running Linux on Arm based SoCs with DSP, using a better supported software ecosystem, and having better real-time behavior for the DSP code. An example of this is TI's own Keystone2 platform. The upstream kernel port appears to no longer have any users. Mark Salter remained avaialable to review patches, but mentioned that he no longer has access to working hardware himself. Without any users, it's best to just remove the code completely to reduce the work for cross-architecture code changes. Many thanks to Mark for maintaining the code for the past ten years. 2021-01-19bonding: add a vlan+srcmac tx hashing optionJarod Wilson
This comes from an end-user request, where they're running multiple VMs on hosts with bonded interfaces connected to some interest switch topologies, where 802.3ad isn't an option. They're currently running a proprietary solution that effectively achieves load-balancing of VMs and bandwidth utilization improvements with a similar form of transmission algorithm. Basically, each VM has it's own vlan, so it always sends its traffic out the same interface, unless that interface fails. Traffic gets split between the interfaces, maintaining a consistent path, with failover still available if an interface goes down. Unlike bond_eth_hash(), this hash function is using the full source MAC address instead of just the last byte, as there are so few components to the hash, and in the no-vlan case, we would be returning just the last byte of the source MAC as the hash value. It's entirely possible to have two NICs in a bond with the same last byte of their MAC, but not the same MAC, so this adjustment should guarantee distinct hashes in all cases. This has been rudimetarily tested to provide similar results to the proprietary solution it is aiming to replace. A patch for iproute2 is also posted, to properly support the new mode there as well. This reverts commit fbdd0049d98d44914fc57d4b91f867f4996c787b. Due to commit in fixes tag, netdevice events were received only in one net namespace of mlx5_core_dev. Due to this when netdevice events arrive in net namespace other than net namespace of mlx5_core_dev, they are missed. This results in empty GID table due to RDMA device being detached from its net device. Hence, revert back to receive netdevice events in all net namespaces to restore back RDMA functionality in non init_net net namespace. The deadlock will have to be addressed in another patch. 2021-01-19thermal/core: Remove the 'forced_passive' optionDaniel Lezcano
The code was reorganized in 2012 with the commit 0c01ebbfd3caf1. The main change is a loop on the trip points array and a unconditional call to the throttle() ops of the governors for each of them even if the trip temperature is not reached yet. With this change, the 'forced_passive' is no longer checked in the thermal_zone_device_update() function but in the step wise governor's throttle() callback. As the force_passive does no belong to the trip point array, the thermal_zone_device_update() can not compare with the specified passive temperature, thus does not detect the passive limit has been crossed. Consequently, throttle() is never called and the 'forced_passive' branch is unreached. In addition, the default processor cooling device is not automatically bound to the thermal zone if there is not passive trip point, thus the 'forced_passive' can not operate. If there is an active trip point, then the throttle function will be called to mitigate at this temperature and the 'forced_passive' will override the mitigation of the active trip point in this case but with the default cooling device bound to the thermal zone, so usually a fan, and that is not a passive cooling effect. Given the regression exists since more than 8 years, nobody complained and at the best of my knowledge there is no bug open in https://bugzilla.kernel.org, it is reasonable to say it is unused. Remove the 'forced_passive' related code. This reverts commit 0883ce8146ed6074c76399f4e70dbed788582e12. Originally these quirks were added because of the issues with using the eDP backlight interfaces on certain laptop panels, which made it impossible to properly probe for DPCD backlight support without having a whitelist for panels that we know have working VESA backlight control interfaces over DPCD. As well, it should be noted it was impossible to use the normal sink OUI for recognizing these panels as none of them actually filled out their OUIs, hence needing to resort to checking EDIDs. At the time we weren't really sure why certain panels had issues with DPCD backlight controls, but we eventually figured out that there was a second interface that these problematic laptop panels actually did work with and advertise properly: Intel's proprietary backlight interface for HDR panels. So far the testing we've done hasn't brought any panels to light that advertise this interface and don't support it properly, which means we finally have a real solution to this problem. As a result, we now have no need for the force DPCD backlight quirk, and furthermore this also removes the need for any kind of EDID quirk checking in DRM.
