2020-02-27media: smiapp: Move definitions under driver directorySakari Ailus
include/media/i2c/smiapp.h was meant to serve systems where the sensor is enumerated through platform data. That's no longer necessary, hopefully not even in out-of-tree use cases. 2020-02-27NFC: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. Propagate the resolved link parameters via the mac_link_up() call for MACs that do not automatically track their PCS state. We propagate the link parameters via function arguments so that inappropriate members of struct phylink_link_state can't be accessed, and creating a new structure just for this adds needless complexity to the API. 2020-02-27KVM: S390: protvirt: Introduce instruction data area bounce bufferJanosch Frank
Now that we can't access guest memory anymore, we have a dedicated satellite block that's a bounce buffer for instruction data. We re-use the memop interface to copy the instruction data to / from userspace. This lets us re-use a lot of QEMU code which used that interface to make logical guest memory accesses which are not possible anymore in protected mode anyway. 2020-02-27ARM: OMAP2+: pm33xx-core: Extend platform_data ops for cpuidleDave Gerlach
In order for am335x and am437x to properly enter deeper c-states in cpuidle they must always call into the sleep33/43xx suspend code and also sometimes invoke the wkup_m3_ipc driver. These are both controlled by the pm33xx module so we must provide a method for the platform code to call back into the module when it is available as the core cpuidle ops that are invoked by the cpuidle-arm driver must remain as built in. Extend the init platform op to take an idle function as an argument so that we can use this to call into the pm33xx module for c-states that need it. Also add a deinit op so we can unregister this idle function from the PM core when the pm33xx module gets unloaded. 2020-02-27ARM: OMAP2+: pm33xx-core: Add cpuidle_ops for am335x/am437xDave Gerlach
am335x and am437x can now make use of the generic cpuidle-arm driver. This requires that we define init and suspend ops to be passed set as the cpuidle ops for the SoC. These ops are invoked directly at the last stage of the cpuidle-arm driver in order to allow low level platform code to run and bring the CPU the rest of the way into it's desired idle state. It is required that the CPUIDLE_METHOD_OF_DECLARE be called from code that is built in so define these ops in pm33xx-core where the always built-in portion of the PM code for these SoCs lives. Additionally, although an soc_suspend function is already exposed by the pm33xx platform code, it contains additional operations needed for full SoC suspend beyond what is needed for a relatively simple CPU suspend needed during cpuidle. To get around this introduce cpu_suspend ops to be used by the am335x and am437x PM driver for the last stage of cpuidle path. On the exporter side we add optional explicit pinning callbacks. Which are called when the importer doesn't implement dynamic handling, move notification or need the DMA-buf locked in place for its use case. On the importer side we add an optional move_notify callback. This callback is used by the exporter to inform the importers that their mappings should be destroyed as soon as possible. 2020-02-27clocksource: Replace setup_irq() by request_irq()afzal mohammed
request_irq() is preferred over setup_irq(). The early boot setup_irq() invocations happen either via 'init_IRQ()' or 'time_init()', while memory allocators are ready by 'mm_init()'. Per tglx[1], setup_irq() existed in olden days when allocators were not ready by the time early interrupts were initialized. Hence replace setup_irq() by request_irq(). Seldom remove_irq() usage has been observed coupled with setup_irq(), wherever that has been found, it too has been replaced by free_irq(). A build error that was reported by kbuild test robot <lkp@intel.com> in the previous version of the patch also has been fixed. 2020-02-26sysfs: add sysfs_change_owner()Christian Brauner
Add a helper to change the owner of sysfs objects. This function will be used to correctly account for kobject ownership changes, e.g. when moving network devices between network namespaces. This mirrors how a kobject is added through driver core which in its guts is done via kobject_add_internal() which in summary creates the main directory via create_dir(), populates that directory with the groups associated with the ktype of the kobject (if any) and populates the directory with the basic attributes associated with the ktype of the kobject (if any). These are the basic steps that are associated with adding a kobject in sysfs. Any additional properties are added by the specific subsystem itself (not by driver core) after it has registered the device. So for the example of network devices, a network device will e.g. register a queue subdirectory under the basic sysfs directory for the network device and than further subdirectories within that queues subdirectory. But that is all specific to network devices and they call the corresponding sysfs functions to do that directly when they create those queue objects. So anything that a subsystem adds outside of what driver core does must also be changed by it (That's already true for removal of files it created outside of driver core.) and it's the same for ownership changes. The display subsystem (DSS) needs the child outputs disabled for reset. In order to prepare to probe DSS without legacy platform data, let's implement sysc_pre_reset_quirk_dss() similar to what we have for the platform data with omap_dss_reset(). Note that we cannot directly use the old omap_dss_reset() without platform data callbacks and updating omap_dss_reset() to understand struct device. And we will be dropping omap_dss_reset() anyways when all the SoCs are probing with device tree, so let's not mess with the legacy code at all. We need to know SoC type and features for cases where the same SoC may be installed in various versions on the same board and would need a separate dts file otherwise for the different variants. For example, am3703 is pin compatible with omap3630, but has sgx and iva accelerators disabled. We must not try to access the sgx or iva module registers on am3703, and need to set the unavailable devices disabled early. Let's also detect omap3430 as that is needed for display subsystem (DSS) reset later on, and GP vs EMU or HS devices. 2020-02-26ASoC: Add initial support for multiple CPU DAIsShreyas NC
ASoC core supports multiple codec DAIs but supports only a CPU DAI. To support multiple cpu DAIs, add cpu_dai and num_cpu_dai in snd_soc_dai_link and snd_soc_pcm_runtime structures similar to support for codec_dai. This is intended as a preparatory patch to eventually support the unification of the Codec and CPU DAI. Inline with multiple codec DAI approach, add support to allocate, init, bind and probe multiple cpu_dai on init if driver specifies that. Also add support to loop over multiple cpu_dai during suspend and resume. This is intended as a preparatory patch to eventually unify the CPU and Codec DAI into DAI components. The main reasons are: - Get things cleaned up before EFI support for RISC-V arrives, which will increase the size of the validation matrix, and therefore the threshold to making drastic changes, - After years of defunct maintainership, the GRUB project has finally started to consider changes from the distros regarding UEFI boot, some of which are highly specific to the way x86 does UEFI secure boot and measured boot, based on knowledge of both shim internals and the layout of bootparams and the x86 setup header. Having this maintenance burden on other architectures (which don't need shim in the first place) is hard to justify, so instead, we are introducing a generic Linux/UEFI boot protocol. Summary of changes: - Boot time GDT handling changes (Arvind) - Simplify handling of EFI properties table on arm64 - Generic EFI stub cleanups, to improve command line handling, file I/O, memory allocation, etc. - Introduce a generic initrd loading method based on calling back into the firmware, instead of relying on the x86 EFI handover protocol or device tree. - Introduce a mixed mode boot method that does not rely on the x86 EFI handover protocol either, and could potentially be adopted by other architectures (if another one ever surfaces where one execution mode is a superset of another) - Clean up the contents of struct efi, and move out everything that doesn't need to be stored there. - Incorporate support for UEFI spec v2.8A changes that permit firmware implementations to return EFI_UNSUPPORTED from UEFI runtime services at OS runtime, and expose a mask of which ones are supported or unsupported via a configuration table. - Various documentation updates and minor code cleanups (Heinrich) - Partial fix for the lack of by-VA cache maintenance in the decompressor on 32-bit ARM. Note that these patches were deliberately put at the beginning so they can be used as a stable branch that will be shared with a PR containing the complete fix, which I will send to the ARM tree. Nothing in the kernel includes the external header <linux/platform_data/leds-kirkwood-ns2.h> so just push the contents into the ns2 leds driver. If someone wants to use platform data or board files to describe this device they should be able to do so using GPIO machine descriptors but in any case device tree should be the way forward for these systems in all cases I can think of, and the driver already supports that. Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector needs to be moved to the display controller driver. To avoid code duplication in display controller drivers, add a new helper to create and manage a DRM connector backed by a chain of bridges. All connector operations are delegating to the appropriate bridge in the chain. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Add connector-related bridge operations and dataLaurent Pinchart
To support implementation of DRM connectors on top of DRM bridges instead of by bridges, the drm_bridge needs to expose new operations and data: - Output detection, hot-plug notification, mode retrieval and EDID retrieval operations - Bitmask of supported operations - Bridge output type - I2C adapter for DDC access Add and document these. Three new bridge helper functions are also added to handle hot plug notification in a way that is as transparent as possible for the bridges. 2020-02-25icmp: allow icmpv6_ndo_send to work with CONFIG_IPV6=nJason A. Donenfeld
The icmpv6_send function has long had a static inline implementation with an empty body for CONFIG_IPV6=n, so that code calling it doesn't need to be ifdef'd. The new icmpv6_ndo_send function, which is intended for drivers as a drop-in replacement with an identical function signature, should follow the same pattern. Without this patch, drivers that used to work with CONFIG_IPV6=n now result in a linker error.
