2020-08-20saner calling conventions for csum_and_copy_..._user()Al Viro
All callers of these primitives will * discard anything we might've copied in case of error * ignore the csum value in case of error * always pass 0xffffffff as the initial sum, so the resulting csum value (in case of success, that is) will never be 0. That suggest the following calling conventions: * don't pass err_ptr - just return 0 on error. * don't bother with zeroing destination, etc. in case of error * don't pass the initial sum - just use 0xffffffff. This commit does the minimal conversion in the instances of csum_and_copy_...(); the changes of actual asm code behind them are done later in the series. Note that this asm code is often shared with csum_partial_copy_nocheck(); the difference is that csum_partial_copy_nocheck() passes 0 for initial sum while csum_and_copy_..._user() pass 0xffffffff. Fortunately, we are free to pass 0xffffffff in all cases and subsequent patches will use that freedom without any special comments. A part that could be split off: parisc and uml/i386 claimed to have csum_and_copy_to_user() instances of their own, but those were identical to the generic one, so we simply drop them. Note that we theoretically could use ~0U as well - result will be the same modulo 0xffff, _if_ the damn thing did the right thing for any value of initial sum; later we'll make use of that when convenient. quite a few architectures have the same csum_partial_copy_nocheck() - simply memcpy() the data and then return the csum of the copy. hexagon, parisc, ia64, s390, um: explicitly spelled out that way. arc, arm64, csky, h8300, m68k/nommu, microblaze, mips/GENERIC_CSUM, nds32, nios2, openrisc, riscv, unicore32: end up picking the same thing spelled out in lib/checksum.h (with varying amounts of perversions along the way). everybody else (alpha, arm, c6x, m68k/mmu, mips/!GENERIC_CSUM, powerpc, sh, sparc, x86, xtensa) have non-generic variants. For all except c6x the declaration is in their asm/checksum.h. c6x uses the wrapper from asm-generic/checksum.h that would normally lead to the lib/checksum.h instance, but in case of c6x we end up using an asm function from arch/c6x instead. Screw that mess - have architectures with private instances define _HAVE_ARCH_CSUM_AND_COPY in their asm/checksum.h and have the default one right in net/checksum.h conditional on _HAVE_ARCH_CSUM_AND_COPY *not* defined. 2020-08-20clocksource/drivers: Add CLINT timer driverAnup Patel
We add a separate CLINT timer driver for Linux RISC-V M-mode (i.e. RISC-V NoMMU kernel). The CLINT MMIO device provides three things: 1. 64bit free running counter register 2. 64bit per-CPU time compare registers 3. 32bit per-CPU inter-processor interrupt registers Unlike other timer devices, CLINT provides IPI registers along with timer registers. To use CLINT IPI registers, the CLINT timer driver provides IPI related callbacks to arch/riscv. 2020-08-20rxrpc: Fix loss of RTT samples due to interposed ACKDavid Howells
The Rx protocol has a mechanism to help generate RTT samples that works by a client transmitting a REQUESTED-type ACK when it receives a DATA packet that has the REQUEST_ACK flag set. The peer, however, may interpose other ACKs before transmitting the REQUESTED-ACK, as can be seen in the following trace excerpt: rxrpc_tx_data: c=00000044 DATA d0b5ece8:00000001 00000001 q=00000001 fl=07 rxrpc_rx_ack: c=00000044 00000001 PNG r=00000000 f=00000002 p=00000000 n=0 rxrpc_rx_ack: c=00000044 00000002 REQ r=00000001 f=00000002 p=00000001 n=0 ... DATA packet 1 (q=xx) has REQUEST_ACK set (bit 1 of fl=xx). The incoming ping (labelled PNG) hard-acks the request DATA packet (f=xx exceeds the sequence number of the DATA packet), causing it to be discarded from the Tx ring. The ACK that was requested (labelled REQ, r=xx references the serial of the DATA packet) comes after the ping, but the sk_buff holding the timestamp has gone and the RTT sample is lost. This is particularly noticeable on RPC calls used to probe the service offered by the peer. A lot of peers end up with an unknown RTT because we only ever sent a single RPC. This confuses the server rotation algorithm. Fix this by caching the information about the outgoing packet in RTT calculations in the rxrpc_call struct rather than looking in the Tx ring. A four-deep buffer is maintained and both REQUEST_ACK-flagged DATA and PING-ACK transmissions are recorded in there. When the appropriate response ACK is received, the buffer is checked for a match and, if found, an RTT sample is recorded. If a received ACK refers to a packet with a later serial number than an entry in the cache, that entry is presumed lost and the entry is made available to record a new transmission. ACKs types other than REQUESTED-type and PING-type cause any matching sample to be cancelled as they don't necessarily represent a useful measurement. If there's no space in the buffer on ping/data transmission, the sample base is discarded. 2020-08-20fbdev: s3c2410fb: remove mach header dependencyArnd Bergmann
The s3c2410fb driver is too deeply intertwined with the s3c24xx platform code. Change it in a way that avoids the use of platform header files but having all interface data in a platform_data header, and the private register definitions next to the driver itself. One ugly bit here is that the driver pokes directly into gpio registers, which are owned by another driver. Passing the mapped addresses in platform_data is somewhat suboptimal, but it is a small improvement over the previous version. 2020-08-20netfilter: conntrack: allow sctp hearbeat after connection re-useFlorian Westphal
If an sctp connection gets re-used, heartbeats are flagged as invalid because their vtag doesn't match. Handle this in a similar way as TCP conntrack when it suspects that the endpoints and conntrack are out-of-sync. When a HEARTBEAT request fails its vtag validation, flag this in the conntrack state and accept the packet. When a HEARTBEAT_ACK is received with an invalid vtag in the reverse direction after we allowed such a HEARTBEAT through, assume we are out-of-sync and re-set the vtag info. v2: remove left-over snippet from an older incarnation that moved new_state/old_state assignments, thats not needed so keep that as-is. 2020-08-20fork: introduce kernel_clone()Christian Brauner
The old _do_fork() helper doesn't follow naming conventions of in-kernel helpers for syscalls. The process creation cleanup in [1] didn't change the name to something more reasonable mainly because _do_fork() was used in quite a few places. So sending this as a separate series seemed the better strategy. This commit does two things: 1. renames _do_fork() to kernel_clone() but keeps _do_fork() as a simple static inline wrapper around kernel_clone(). 2. Changes the return type from long to pid_t. This aligns kernel_thread() and kernel_clone(). Also, the return value from kernel_clone that is surfaced in fork(), vfork(), clone(), and clone3() is taken from pid_vrn() which returns a pid_t too. Follow-up patches will switch each caller of _do_fork() and each place where it is referenced over to kernel_clone(). After all these changes are done, we can remove _do_fork() completely and will only be left with kernel_clone(). The header file algapi.h includes skbuff.h unnecessarily since all we need is a forward declaration for struct sk_buff. This patch removes that inclusion. 2020-08-19ext4: limit the length of per-inode prealloc listbrookxu
In the scenario of writing sparse files, the per-inode prealloc list may be very long, resulting in high overhead for ext4_mb_use_preallocated(). To circumvent this problem, we limit the maximum length of per-inode prealloc list to 512 and allow users to modify it. After patching, we observed that the sys ratio of cpu has dropped, and the system throughput has increased significantly. 2020-08-19cacheinfo: Move resctrl's get_cache_id() to the cacheinfo header fileJames Morse
resctrl/core.c defines get_cache_id() for use in its cpu-hotplug callbacks. This gets the id attribute of the cache at the corresponding level of a CPU. Later rework means this private function needs to be shared. Move it to the header file. The name conflicts with a different definition in intel_cacheinfo.c, name it get_cpu_cacheinfo_id() to show its relation with get_cpu_cacheinfo(). Now this is visible on other architectures, check the id attribute has actually been set. 2020-08-19sched/topology: Propagate SD_ASYM_CPUCAPACITY upwardsValentin Schneider
We currently set this flag *only* on domains whose topology level exactly match the level where we detect asymmetry (as returned by asym_cpu_capacity_level()). This is rather problematic. Say there are two clusters in the system, one with a lone big CPU and the other with a mix of big and LITTLE CPUs (as is allowed by DynamIQ): DIE [ ] MC [ ][ ] 0 1 2 3 4 L L B B B asym_cpu_capacity_level() will figure out that the MC level is the one where all CPUs can see a CPU of max capacity, and we will thus set SD_ASYM_CPUCAPACITY at MC level for all CPUs. That lone big CPU will degenerate its MC domain, since it would be alone in there, and will end up with just a DIE domain. Since the flag was only set at MC, this CPU ends up not seeing any SD with the flag set, which is broken. Rather than clearing dflags at every topology level, clear it before entering the topology level loop. This will properly propagate upwards flags that are set starting from a certain level. 2020-08-19sched/topology: Define and assign sched_domain flag metadataValentin Schneider
There are some expectations regarding how sched domain flags should be laid out, but none of them are checked or asserted in sched_domain_debug_one(). After staring at said flags for a while, I've come to realize there's two repeating patterns: - Shared with children: those flags are set from the base CPU domain upwards. Any domain that has it set will have it set in its children. It hints at "some property holds true / some behaviour is enabled until this level". - Shared with parents: those flags are set from the topmost domain downwards. Any domain that has it set will have it set in its parents. It hints at "some property isn't visible / some behaviour is disabled until this level". There are two outliers that (currently) do not map to either of these: o SD_PREFER_SIBLING, which is cleared below levels with SD_ASYM_CPUCAPACITY. The change was introduced by commit: 9c63e84db29b ("sched/core: Disable SD_PREFER_SIBLING on asymmetric CPU capacity domains") as it could break misfit migration on some systems. In light of this, we might want to change it back to make it fit one of the two categories and fix the issue another way. o SD_ASYM_CPUCAPACITY, which gets set on a single level and isn't propagated up nor down. From a topology description point of view, it really wants to be SDF_SHARED_PARENT; this will be rectified in a later patch. Tweak the sched_domain flag declaration to assign each flag an expected layout, and include the rationale for each flag "meta type" assignment as a comment. Consolidate the flag metadata into an array; the index of a flag's metadata can easily be found with log2(flag), IOW __ffs(flag). To associate the SD flags with some metadata, we need some more structure in the way they are declared. Rather than shove that in a free-standing macro list, move the declaration in a separate file that can be re-imported with different SD_FLAG definitions. This is inspired by what is done with the syscall table (see uapi/asm/unistd.h and sys_call_table). The value assigned to a given SD flag now depends on the order it appears in sd_flags.h. No change in functionality. This flag was introduced in 2014 by commit: d77b3ed5c9f8 ("sched: Add a new SD_SHARE_POWERDOMAIN for sched_domain") but AFAIA it was never leveraged by the scheduler. The closest thing I can think of is EAS caring about frequency domains, and it does that by leveraging performance domains. Remove the flag. No change in functionality is expected. This patch is to do 3 things for ipv6_dev_find(): As David A. noticed, - rt6_lookup() is not really needed. Different from __ip_dev_find(), ipv6_dev_find() doesn't have a compatibility problem, so remove it. As Hideaki suggested, - "valid" (non-tentative) check for the address is also needed. ipv6_chk_addr() calls ipv6_chk_addr_and_flags(), which will traverse the address hash list, but it's heavy to be called inside ipv6_dev_find(). This patch is to reuse the code of ipv6_chk_addr_and_flags() for ipv6_dev_find(). - dev parameter is passed into ipv6_dev_find(), as link-local addresses from user space has sin6_scope_id set and the dev lookup needs it. 2020-08-18netlink: make NLA_BINARY validation more flexibleJohannes Berg
Add range validation for NLA_BINARY, allowing validation of any combination of combination minimum or maximum lengths, using the existing NLA_POLICY_RANGE()/NLA_POLICY_FULL_RANGE() macros, just like for integers where the value is checked. Also make NLA_POLICY_EXACT_LEN(), NLA_POLICY_EXACT_LEN_WARN() and NLA_POLICY_MIN_LEN() special cases of this, removing the old types NLA_EXACT_LEN and NLA_MIN_LEN. This allows us to save some code where both minimum and maximum lengths are requires, currently the policy only allows maximum (NLA_BINARY), minimum (NLA_MIN_LEN) or exact (NLA_EXACT_LEN), so a range of lengths cannot be accepted and must be checked by the code that consumes the attributes later. Also, this allows advertising the correct ranges in the policy export to userspace.
