Reject any mode with DRM_MODE_FLAG_BCAST. We have no code that even checks for this flag hence it can't possibly do any good. I think this maybe originated from fbdev where it was supposed to indicate PAL/NTSC broadcast timings. I have no idea why those would have to be identified by a flag rather than by just the timings themselves. And then I assume it got copied into xfree86 for fbdevhw, and later on it leaked into the randr protocol and kms uapi. Since kms fbdev emulation never uses the corresponding fbdev flag there should be no sane way for this to come back into kms via userspace either. Reject any mode with DRM_MODE_FLAG_PIXMUX. We have no code that even checks for this flag hence it can't possibly do any good. Looks like this flag had something to do the the controller<->ramdac interface with some ancient S3 graphics adapters. Why someone though it would be a good idea to expose it directly to users I don't know. And later on it got copied into the randr protocol and kms uapi. Currently userspace is allowed to feed in any king of garbage in the high bits of the mode flags/type, as are drivers when probing modes. Reject any mode with bogus flags/type. Pull MMC updates from Ulf Hansson: "There are two major achievements for MMC in this release, which deserves to be specially highlighted. First, we have converted the MMC block device from using the legacy blk interface into using the modern blkmq interface. Not only do we get all the nice effects from using blkmq, but it also means that new fresh nice code replaces old rusty code. Great news to everybody that cares about MMC/SD! It should also be noted that converting to blkmq has not been trivial, mostly because of that we have been carrying too much of MMC specific optimizations for the I/O request path, rather than striving to move these to the generic blk layer. Hopefully we won't be doing that mistake, ever again. Special thanks to Adrian Hunter (Intel) and to Linus Walleij (Linaro), who both have been working on this for quite some time! Second, on top of the blkmq deployment, we have enabled full support the eMMC command queuing feature, introduced in the eMMC v.5.1 spec. This also includes an implementation of a host driver library, supporting the corresponding CQHCI HW. Ideally, those controllers that supports CQHCI should only need some minor adaptations to make this play. So far the sdhci-pci driver for the Intel GLKs and the sdhci-of-arasan driver used on Rockchip RK3399, have enabled support for eMMC command queueing. Worth to highlight is also that, implementing the eMMC command queuing support has been a collaborative effort, as several people from Codeaurora, Rockchip, Intel and Linaro have been involved. However, the work has been driven by Adrian Hunter (Intel). 2018-01-29dm mpath: delay the retry of a request if the target responded as busyMike Snitzer
Add DM_ENDIO_DELAY_REQUEUE to allow request-based multipath's multipath_end_io() to instruct dm-rq.c:dm_done() to delay a requeue. This is beneficial to do if BLK_STS_RESOURCE is returned from the target (because target is busy). Relative to blk-mq: kick the hw queues via blk_mq_requeue_work(), indirectly from dm-rq.c:__dm_mq_kick_requeue_list(), after a delay. For old .request_fn: use blk_delay_queue(). bio-based multipath doesn't have feature parity with request-based for retryable error requeues; that is something that'll need fixing in the future. Introduce a new qdisc ops ->change_tx_queue_len() so that each qdisc could decide how to implement this if it wants. Previously we simply read dev->tx_queue_len, after pfifo_fast switches to skb array, we need this API to resize the skb array when we change dev->tx_queue_len. To avoid handling race conditions with TX BH, we need to deactivate all TX queues before change the value and bring them back after we are done, this also makes implementation easier. 2018-01-29fs: handle inode->i_version more efficientlyJeff Layton
Since i_version is mostly treated as an opaque value, we can exploit that fact to avoid incrementing it when no one is watching. With that change, we can avoid incrementing the counter on writes, unless someone has queried for it since it was last incremented. If the a/c/mtime don't change, and the i_version hasn't changed, then there's no need to dirty the inode metadata on a write. Convert the i_version counter to an atomic64_t, and use the lowest order bit to hold a flag that will tell whether anyone has queried the value since it was last incremented. When we go to maybe increment it, we fetch the value and check the flag bit. If it's clear then we don't need to do anything if the update isn't being forced. If we do need to update, then we increment the counter by 2, and clear the flag bit, and then use a CAS op to swap it into place. If that works, we return true. If it doesn't then do it again with the value that we fetch from the CAS operation. On the query side, if the flag is already set, then we just shift the value down by 1 bit and return it. Otherwise, we set the flag in our on-stack value and again use cmpxchg to swap it into place if it hasn't changed. If it has, then we use the value from the cmpxchg as the new "old" value and try again. This method allows us to avoid incrementing the counter on writes (and dirtying the metadata) under typical workloads. We only need to increment if it has been queried since it was last changed. The rationale for taking the i_lock when incrementing this value is lost in antiquity. The readers of the field don't take it (at least not universally), so my assumption is that it was only done here to serialize incrementors. If that is indeed the case, then we can drop the i_lock from this codepath and treat it as a atomic64_t for the purposes of incrementing it. This allows us to use inode_inc_iversion without any danger of lock inversion. Note that the read side is not fetched atomically with this change. The assumption here is that that is not a critical issue since the i_version is not fully synchronized with anything else anyway. Crosslink is a feature of the Switchtec switches that is similar to the B2B mode of other NTB devices. It allows a system to be designed that is perfectly symmetric with two identical switches that link two hosts together. In order for the system to be symmetric, there is an empty host-less partition between the two switches which the host must enumerate and assign BAR addresses to. The firmware in the switch manages this specially so that the BAR addresses on both sides of the empty partition will be identical despite being in the same partition with the same address space. The driver determines whether crosslink is enabled by a flag set in the NTB partition info registers which are set by the switch's configuration file. When crosslink is enabled, a reserved LUT window is setup to point to the peer's switch's NTB registers and the local MWs are set to forward to the host-less partition's BARs. (Yes, this hurts my brain too.) Once this is setup, largely the same NTB infrastructure is used to communicate between the two hosts. Use following logic to determine the NT peer partition: 1) If there are 2 partitions, and the target vector is set in the Switchtec configuration, use the partition specified in target vector. 2) If there are 2 partitions and target vector is unset use the only other partition as specified in the NT EP map. 3) If there are more than 2 partitions and target vector is set use the other partition specified in target vector. 4) If there are more than 2 partitions and target vector is unset, this is invalid and report an error. One of the ugly leftovers from the early eBPF days is that div/mod operations based on registers have a hard-coded src_reg == 0 test in the interpreter as well as in JIT code generators that would return from the BPF program with exit code 0. This was basically adopted from cBPF interpreter for historical reasons. There are multiple reasons why this is very suboptimal and prone to bugs. To name one: the return code mapping for such abnormal program exit of 0 does not always match with a suitable program type's exit code mapping. For example, '0' in tc means action 'ok' where the packet gets passed further up the stack, which is just undesirable for such cases (e.g. when implementing policy) and also does not match with other program types. After considering _four_ different ways to address the problem, we adapt the same behavior as on some major archs like ARMv8: X div 0 results in 0, and X mod 0 results in X. aarch64 and aarch32 ISA do not generate any traps or otherwise aborts of program execution for unsigned divides. Given the options, it seems the most suitable from all of them, also since major archs have similar schemes in place. Devices can go offline when erors reported. This patch adds a change to the kernel object and lets udev know of error. When device resumes, a change is also set reporting device as online.
