2023-02-27mm/mremap: fix dup_anon_vma() in vma_merge() case 4Vlastimil Babka
In case 4, we are shrinking 'prev' (PPPP in the comment) and expanding 'mid' (NNNN). So we need to make sure 'mid' clones the anon_vma from 'prev', if it doesn't have any. After commit 0503ea8f5ba7 ("mm/mmap: remove __vma_adjust()") we can fail to do that due to wrong parameters for dup_anon_vma(). The call is a no-op because res == next, adjust == mid and mid == next. access(2) remains commonly used, for example on exec: access("/etc/ld.so.preload", R_OK) or when running gcc: strace -c gcc empty.c % time seconds usecs/call calls errors syscall ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 0.00 0.000000 0 42 26 access It falls down to do_faccessat without the AT_EACCESS flag, which in turn results in allocation of new creds in order to modify fsuid/fsgid and caps. This is a very expensive process single-threaded and most notably multi-threaded, with numerous structures getting refed and unrefed on imminent new cred destruction. Turns out for typical consumers the resulting creds would be identical and this can be checked upfront, avoiding the hard work. 2023-02-27libbpf: Fix bpf_xdp_query() in old kernelsYonghong Song
Commit 04d58f1b26a4("libbpf: add API to get XDP/XSK supported features") added feature_flags to struct bpf_xdp_query_opts. If a user uses bpf_xdp_query_opts with feature_flags member, the bpf_xdp_query() will check whether 'netdev' family exists or not in the kernel. If it does not exist, the bpf_xdp_query() will return -ENOENT. But 'netdev' family does not exist in old kernels as it is introduced in the same patch set as Commit 04d58f1b26a4. So old kernel with newer libbpf won't work properly with bpf_xdp_query() api call. To fix this issue, if the return value of libbpf_netlink_resolve_genl_family_id() is -ENOENT, bpf_xdp_query() will just return 0, skipping the rest of xdp feature query. This preserves backward compatibility. 2023-02-27kunit: Fix 'hooks.o' build by recursing into kunitDavid Gow
KUnit's 'hooks.o' file need to be built-in whenever KUnit is enabled (even if CONFIG_KUNIT=m). We'd previously attemtped to do this by adding 'kunit/hooks.o' to obj-y in lib/Makefile, but this caused hooks.c to be rebuilt even when it was unchanged. Currently, out of every Ralink SoC, only the dt-binding of the MT7621 SoC uses pinctrl. Because of this, PINCTRL is not selected at all. Make SOC_MT7621 select PINCTRL. 2023-02-27MIPS: cevt-r4k: Offset the value used to clear compare interruptJiaxun Yang
In c0_compare_int_usable we clear compare interrupt by write value just read out from counter to compare register. However sometimes if those all instructions are graduated together then it's possible that at the time compare register is written, the counter haven't progressed, thus the interrupt is triggered again. It also applies to QEMU that instructions is executed significantly faster then counter. Offset the value used to clear interrupt by one to prevent that happen. CP0_CMGCRBASE is not always available on CPS enabled system such as early proAptiv. For early SMP bring up where we can't safely access memeory, we patch the entry of CPS NMI vector to inject CMGCR address directly into register during early core bringup. For VPE bringup as the core is already coherenct at that point we just read the variable to obtain the address. Ross reported broken link to BTF documentation (Documentation/bpf/btf.rst) in Documentation/bpf/bpf_devel_QA.rst. The link in question is written using external link syntax, with the target refers to BTF doc in reST source (btf.rst), which doesn't exist in resulting HTML output. Fix the link by replacing external link syntax with simply writing out the target doc, which the link will be generated to the correct HTML doc target. Frederick Lawler reported another "__this_cpu_add() in preemptible" warning caused by the same reason. Commit bc292ab00f6c("mm: introduce vma->vm_flags wrapper functions") turns the vm_flags into a const variable. Added bpf_find_vma test in commit f108662b27c9("selftests/bpf: Add tests for bpf_find_vma") to assign values to variables that declare const in find_vma_fail1.c programs, which is an error to the compiler and does not test BPF verifiers. 2023-02-27tools: bpftool: Remove invalid \' json escapeLuis Gerhorst
RFC8259 ("The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Data Interchange Format") only specifies \", \\, \/, \b, \f, \n, \r, and \r as valid two-character escape sequences. This does not include \', which is not required in JSON because it exclusively uses double quotes as string separators. Solidus (/) may be escaped, but does not have to. Only reverse solidus (\), double quotes ("), and the control characters have to be escaped. Therefore, with this fix, bpftool correctly supports all valid two-character escape sequences (but still does not support characters that require multi-character escape sequences). Witout this fix, attempting to load a JSON file generated by bpftool using Python 3.10.6's default json.load() may fail with the error "Invalid \escape" if the file contains the invalid escaped single quote (\'). 2023-02-27x86/speculation: Allow enabling STIBP with legacy IBRSKP Singh
When plain IBRS is enabled (not enhanced IBRS), the logic in spectre_v2_user_select_mitigation() determines that STIBP is not needed. The IBRS bit implicitly protects against cross-thread branch target injection. However, with legacy IBRS, the IBRS bit is cleared on returning to userspace for performance reasons which leaves userspace threads vulnerable to cross-thread branch target injection against which STIBP protects. Exclude IBRS from the spectre_v2_in_ibrs_mode() check to allow for enabling STIBP (through seccomp/prctl() by default or always-on, if selected by spectre_v2_user kernel cmdline parameter). The calibration blob for a chip is normally stored in SROM and loaded internally by the firmware. However, Apple ARM64 platforms instead store it as part of platform configuration data, and provide it via the Apple Device Tree. We forward this into the Linux DT in the bootloader. Add support for taking this blob from the DT and loading it into the dongle. The loading mechanism is the same as used for the CLM and TxCap blobs. Apparently the hex passphrase mechanism does not work on newer chips/firmware (e.g. BCM4387). It seems there was a simple way of passing it in binary all along, so use that and avoid the hexification. OpenBSD has been doing it like this from the beginning, so this should work on all chips. Also clear the structure before setting the PMK. This was leaking uninitialized stack contents to the device. At least on BCM4387, the D11 cores are held in reset on cold startup and firmware expects to release reset itself. Just assert reset here and let firmware deassert it. Premature deassertion results in the firmware failing to initialize properly some of the time, with strange AXI bus errors. Also, BCM4387 has 3 cores, up from 2. The logic for handling that is in brcmf_chip_ai_resetcore(), but since we aren't using that any more, just handle it here. 2023-02-27s390/nmi: fix virtual-physical address confusionNico Boehr
When a machine check is received while in SIE, it is reinjected into the guest in some cases. The respective code needs to access the sie_block, which is taken from the backed up R14. Since reinjection only occurs while we are in SIE (i.e. between the labels sie_entry and sie_leave in entry.S and thus if CIF_MCCK_GUEST is set), the backed up R14 will always contain a physical address in s390_backup_mcck_info. This currently works, because virtual and physical addresses are the same. Add phys_to_virt() to resolve the virtual-physical confusion.
