2020-03-20docs: prevent warnings due to autosectionlabelMauro Carvalho Chehab
Changeset 58ad30cf91f0 ("docs: fix reference to core-api/namespaces.rst") enabled a new feature at Sphinx: it will now generate index for each document title, plus to each chapter inside it. There's a drawback, though: one document cannot have two sections with the same name anymore. A followup patch will change the logic of autosectionlabel to avoid most creating references for every single section title, but still we need to be able to reference the chapters inside a document. There are a few places where there are two chapters with the same name. This patch renames one of the chapters, in order to avoid symbol conflict within the same document. 2020-03-02media: Split v4l2_pipeline_pm_use into v4l2_pipeline_pm_{get, put}Ezequiel Garcia
Currently, v4l2_pipeline_pm_use() prototype is: int v4l2_pipeline_pm_use(struct media_entity *entity, int use) Where the 'use' argument shall only be set to '1' for enable/power-on, or to '0' for disable/power-off. The integer return is specified as only meaningful when 'use' is set to '1'. Let's enforce this semantic by splitting the function in two: v4l2_pipeline_pm_get and v4l2_pipeline_pm_put. This is done for several reasons. It makes the API easier to use (or harder to misuse). It removes the constraint on the values the 'use' argument shall take. Also, it removes the need to constraint the return value, by making v4l2_pipeline_pm_put void return. And last, it's more consistent with other kernel APIs, such as the runtime pm APIs, which makes the code more symmetric. We currently have the following devnode types: enum vfl_devnode_type { VFL_TYPE_GRABBER = 0, VFL_TYPE_VBI, VFL_TYPE_RADIO, VFL_TYPE_SUBDEV, VFL_TYPE_SDR, VFL_TYPE_TOUCH, VFL_TYPE_MAX /* Shall be the last one */ }; They all make sense, except for the first: GRABBER really refers to /dev/videoX devices, which can be capture, output or m2m, so 'grabber' doesn't even refer to their function anymore. Let's call a spade a spade and rename this to VFL_TYPE_VIDEO. 2019-08-15media: v4l: Documentation: Serial busses use parallel mbus codesSakari Ailus
When the support for serial busses was introduced in V4L2, it was decided to use the existing parallel bus media bus pixel codes to describe them. While this was a practical choice at the time, it necessitates choosing which one of the many parallel mbus pixel codes to use, for on the serial busses these formats are effectively all equivalent. The practice has always been to use the pixel code that describes a bus that transfers a single sample per clock. Document this. This paragraph was added by commit a42b57f5aacf ("V4L/DVB: Documentation: add v4l2-controls.txt documenting the new controls API") back in 2010, when the controls API has been improved. Nowadays it is a bit anachronistic, so remove it. The same information is stated in up-to-date wording a few paragraphs later > You’re done! And this is sufficient for most of the drivers we have. No > need to do any validation of control values, or implement QUERYCTRL, > QUERY_EXT_CTRL and QUERYMENU. And G/S_CTRL as well as G/TRY/S_EXT_CTRLS > are automatically supported. 2019-04-22media: Media Device Allocator APIShuah Khan
Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device. This API solves a very common use-case for media devices where one physical device (an USB stick) provides both audio and video. When such media device exposes a standard USB Audio class, a proprietary Video class, two or more independent drivers will share a single physical USB bridge. In such cases, it is necessary to coordinate access to the shared resource. Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all the references are released. The latest versions of Google camera and codec HAL depends on such feature. At this stage, it supports only stateless codecs. It has been discussed for a long time (at least over the last 3-4 years), and we finally reached to something that seem to work. This series contain both the API and core changes required to support it and a new m2m decoder driver (cedrus). As the current API is still experimental, the only real driver using it (cedrus) was added at staging[1]. We intend to keep it there for a while, in order to test the API. Both v4l2-event.rst and v4l2-event.h have an overview of events, but there are some inconsistencies there: - at v4l2-event, the event's ring buffer is called kevent. Its name is, instead, v4l2_kevent; - Some things are mentioned on both places (with different words), others are either on one of the files. In order to cleanup this mess, put everything at v4l2-event.rst and improve it to be a little more coherent and to have cross references.
