2019-05-08media: field-order.rst: clarify FIELD_ANY and FIELD_NONEHans Verkuil
Rephrased the FIELD_ANY description: rather than explicitly list field values, just say 'when any field format is acceptable'. The list of FIELD values was outdated, so it was a bit confusing. The FIELD_NONE description said that 'The driver may also indicate this order when it cannot distinguish between V4L2_FIELD_TOP and V4L2_FIELD_BOTTOM'. This is false, NONE really means a full frame and userspace depends on that. So drop this line completely. There are no drivers that do this anyway. FIELD_TOP/BOTTOM/ALTERNATE indicate that the number of lines in the buffer are that of a field, not frame, so returning NONE here would cause huge problems. 2019-04-22media: Media Device Allocator APIShuah Khan
Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device. This API solves a very common use-case for media devices where one physical device (an USB stick) provides both audio and video. When such media device exposes a standard USB Audio class, a proprietary Video class, two or more independent drivers will share a single physical USB bridge. In such cases, it is necessary to coordinate access to the shared resource. Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all the references are released. 2019-03-25media: media requests: return EBADR instead of EACCESHans Verkuil
If requests are used when they shouldn't, or not used when they should, then return EBADR (Invalid request descriptor) instead of EACCES. The reason for this change is that EACCES has more to do with permissions (not being the owner of the resource), but in this case the request file descriptor is just wrong for the current mode of the device. 2019-03-25media: vb2: add requires_requests bit for stateless codecsHans Verkuil
Stateless codecs require the use of the Request API as opposed of it being optional. So add a bit to indicate this and let vb2 check for this. If an attempt is made to queue a buffer without an associated request, then the EBADR error is returned to userspace. Doing this check in the vb2 core simplifies drivers, since they don't have to check for this, they can just set this flag. 2019-02-18extended-controls.rst: split up per control classHans Verkuil
The extended-controls.rst file had become too big. Split it up: each control class reference gets its own rst file, and this file just describes the Extended Control API. Each control class reference is also moved up one level into the table of contents to make it easier to find e.g. the codec control reference. Finally I rearranged the order so that all camera-related control classes are grouped together, ditto for codec/jpeg and fm-rx/tx. The ext-ctrls-codec.rst is still pretty big and it is a candidate to split up further in the future, possibly per codec. The formats added in this patch include: V4L2_PIX_FMT_AYUV32 V4L2_PIX_FMT_XYUV32 V4L2_PIX_FMT_VUYA32 V4L2_PIX_FMT_VUYX32 These formats enable the trasmission of alpha channel data to other drivers and userspace applications in addition to YUV data. For example, buffers generated by drivers in one of these formats can be used by the Weston compositor to display as a texture or flipped directly onto the overlay planes with the help of a DRM driver. Those files are meant to be dual GPL 2.0 and GFDL without implicit sections. However, by a wrong cut-and-paste, I ended by applying a GPL 2+ license text to it, while still using the GPL 2.0 SPDX tag, with would cause an ambiguity about the licensing model. The venus and s5p-mfc drivers add the loop filter alpha/beta offset controls V4L2_CID_MPEG_VIDEO_H264_LOOP_FILTER_ALPHA/BETA with a range of -6 to +6, inclusive. This is exactly the range specified for the slice header fields slice_alpha_c0_offset_div2 and slice_beta_offset_div2, which store half the actual filter offsets FilterOffsetA/B. Clarify that this control contains the halved offsets.
