It's not a complete documentation but hopefully it's enough for the casual contributor. 2023-05-23tracing: Rename stacktrace field to common_stacktraceSteven Rostedt (Google)
The histogram and synthetic events can use a pseudo event called "stacktrace" that will create a stacktrace at the time of the event and use it just like it was a normal field. We have other pseudo events such as "common_cpu" and "common_timestamp". To stay consistent with that, convert "stacktrace" to "common_stacktrace". As this was used in older kernels, to keep backward compatibility, this will act just like "common_cpu" did with "cpu". That is, "cpu" will be the same as "common_cpu" unless the event has a "cpu" field. In which case, the event's field is used. The same is true with "stacktrace". Also update the documentation to reflect this change. 2023-05-17ice: Remove LAG+SRIOV mutual exclusionDave Ertman
There was a change previously to stop SR-IOV and LAG from existing on the same interface. This was to prevent the violation of LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol). The method to achieve this was to add a no-op Rx handler onto the netdev when SR-IOV VFs were present, thus blocking bonding, bridging, etc from claiming the interface by adding its own Rx handler. Also, when an interface was added into a aggregate, then the SR-IOV capability was set to false. There are some users that have in house solutions using both SR-IOV and bridging/bonding that this method interferes with (e.g. creating duplicate VFs on the bonded interfaces and failing between them when the interface fails over). It makes more sense to provide the most functionality possible, the restriction on co-existence of these features will be removed. No additional functionality is currently being provided beyond what existed before the co-existence restriction was put into place. It is up to the end user to not implement a solution that would interfere with existing network protocols. 2023-05-17s390/iommu: get rid of S390_CCW_IOMMU and S390_AP_IOMMUJason Gunthorpe
These don't do anything anymore, the only user of the symbol was VFIO_CCW/AP which already "depends on VFIO" and VFIO itself selects IOMMU_API. When this was added VFIO was wrongly doing "depends on IOMMU_API" which required some contortions like this to ensure IOMMU_API was turned on. w/ broken FW When trying to turn on the "pseudo NMI" kernel feature in Linux, it was discovered that all Mediatek-based Chromebooks that ever shipped (at least ones with GICv3) had a firmware bug where they wouldn't save certain GIC "GICR" registers properly. If a processor ever entered a suspend/idle mode where the GICR registers lost state then they'd be reset to their default state. As a result of the bug, if you try to enable "pseudo NMIs" on the affected devices then certain interrupts will unexpectedly get promoted to be "pseudo NMIs" and cause crashes / freezes / general mayhem. ChromeOS is looking to start turning on "pseudo NMIs" in production to make crash reports more actionable. To do so, we will release firmware updates for at least some of the affected Mediatek Chromebooks. However, even when we update the firmware of a Chromebook it's always possible that a user will end up booting with old firmware. We need to be able to detect when we're running with firmware that will crash and burn if pseudo NMIs are enabled. The current plan is: * Update the device trees of all affected Chromebooks to include the 'mediatek,broken-save-restore-fw' property. The kernel can use this to know not to enable certain features like "pseudo NMI". NOTE: device trees for Chromebooks are never baked into the firmware but are bundled with the kernel. A kernel will never be configured to use "pseudo NMIs" and be bundled with an old device tree. * When we get a fixed firmware for one of these Chromebooks, it will patch the device tree to remove this property. Currently the SYN RTO schedule follows an exponential backoff scheme, which can be unnecessarily conservative in cases where there are link failures. In such cases, it's better to aggressively try to retransmit packets, so it takes routers less time to find a repath with a working link. We chose a default value for this sysctl of 4, to follow the macOS and IOS backoff scheme of 1,1,1,1,1,2,4,8, ... 2023-05-08media: dt-bindings: ov2685: Correct data-lanes attributeLuca Weiss
When adapting the original doc conversion to support 2 lanes, minItems should've been added as well since the sensor supports either 1 or 2 lanes. Add minItems to make the validation happy again.
