The arm dts directory has grown to 1559 boards which makes it a bit
unwieldy to maintain and use. Past attempts stalled out due to plans to
move .dts files out of the kernel tree. Doing that is no longer planned
(any time soon at least), so let's go ahead and group .dts files by
vendors. This move aligns arm with arm64 .dts file structure.
There's no change to dtbs_install as the flat structure is maintained on
install.
The naming of vendor directories is roughly in this order of preference:
- Matching original and current SoC vendor prefix/name (e.g. ti, qcom)
- Current vendor prefix/name if still actively sold (SoCs which have
been aquired) (e.g. nxp/imx)
- Existing platform name for older platforms not sold/maintained by any
company (e.g. gemini, nspire)
The whole move was scripted with the exception of MAINTAINERS and a few
makefile fixups.

Pass a label to the AIPS nodes to make it easier to reference
it from other devicetree files.
Some i.MX dtsi files already describe labels for the AIPS nodes.
Make it available for all SoCs for consistency.
U-Boot, for example usually needs to access the AIPS node to
pass U-Boot-specific properties.

The imx-pwm driver supports 3 cells and this is the more flexible setting.
So use it by default and overwrite it back to two for the files that
reference the PWMs with just 2 cells to minimize changes.
This allows to drop explicit setting to 3 cells for the boards that already
depend on this. The boards that are now using 2 cells explicitly can be
converted to 3 individually.

The iomuxc-gpr node is not used and causes the following dtc
warning with W=1:
arch/arm/boot/dts/imx50.dtsi:286.28-289.6: Warning (unique_unit_address): /soc/bus@50000000/iomuxc@53fa8000: duplicate unit-address (also used in node /soc/bus@50000000/iomuxc-gpr@53fa8000)
Remove the node to fix the warning.

are recommended to be used, such as bus.
i.MX AIPS is a AHB - IP bridge bus, so

Since 25aaa75df1e6 SDMA driver uses clock rates of "ipg" and "ahb"
clock to determine if it needs to configure the IP block as operating
at 1:1 or 1:2 clock ratio (ACR bit in SDMAARM_CONFIG). Specifying both
clocks as IMX5_CLK_SDMA results in driver incorrectly thinking that
ratio is 1:1 which results in broken SDMA funtionality. Fix the code
to specify IMX5_CLK_AHB as "ahb" clock for SDMA, to avoid detecting
incorrect clock ratio.

Even though the ChipIdea USB controller binding[1] doesn't specify the
properties that reference a PHY as required, the Linux driver
requires[2] such a reference.
The clock situation is like on i.MX53: The USB controller is clocked
from IMX5_CLK_USBOH3_GATE and the PHY from IMX5_CLK_USB_PHY1_GATE.

imx50-evk has duplicate memory nodes:
- One coming from the board dts file: memory@
- One coming from the imx50.dtsi file.
Fix the duplication by removing the memory node from the dtsi file
and by adding 'device_type = "memory";' in the board dts.

dtc has new checks for SPI buses. Fix the warnings in node names and
unit-addresses.
There's over 100 warnings for FSL boards, a few examples:

According to the i.MX50 Reference Manual, the SoC features one USB OTG
and one host controller. Remove the non-existent instances from the
DTS which probably got initially copied from the mx53 DTS.

Fix dtc warnings for 'simple_bus_reg' due to leading 0s. Converted using
the following command:
perl -p -i -e 's/\@0+([0-9a-f])/\@$1/g' `find arch/arm/boot/dts -type -f -name '*.dts*'
Dropped changes to ARM, Ltd. boards LED nodes and manually fixed up some
occurrences of uppercase hex.

The FEC driver ignores the GPIO polarity from 'phy-reset-gpios' and
considers that the Ethernet PHY is active low, unless the
property 'phy-reset-active-high' is present.
Fix the device tree description by explicitly passing the
'GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW' flag to the 'phy-reset-gpios' property.

According to the reference manuals, both imx50/imx53 SOC seem to share
the same eSDHC controller, especially the section on "Multi-block Read"
mentioned in commit 361b8482026c ("mmc: sdhci-esdhc-imx: fix multiblock
reads on i.MX53") is identical for both SOC.
Hence, let imx50 use imx53-esdhc.

Commit 7f107887d199 ("ARM: dts: imx: Remove skeleton.dtsi") causes boot
issues when the bootloader does not create a 'chosen' node if such node
is not present in the dtb.
The reason for the boot failure is well explained by Javier Martinez
Canillas: "the decompressor relies on a pre-existing chosen node to be
available to insert the command line and merge other ATAGS info."
, so pass an empty 'chosen' node to fix the boot problem.
This issue has been seen in the kernelci reports with Barebox as
bootloader.
Also pass the 'memory' node in order to fix boot issues on the SolidRun
iMX6 platforms.

To establish a connection between GPIO controllers and pin multiplexor
controller add gpio-ranges properties to all GPIO controllers found
on iMX50, iMX6Q/D, iMX6DL/S, iMX6SL, iMX6SX, iMX6UL and iMX7D/S
SoCs. The change was done after human parsing of output from

The chipidea driver adds an extra line of spam to the log when a
host-only chipidea instance is left set to the default of a dual role
controller.
[ 2.010873] ci_hdrc ci_hdrc.1: doesn't support gadget
Set the dr_mode property to host on all the host-only nodes
to avoid this warning.

imx51-ssi and imx21-ssi are different IPs. imx51-ssi supports online
reconfiguration and needs this for correct interaction with SDMA. This
patch adds imx51-ssi before each imx21-ssi for all imx5 SoCs.
