2015-06-02ARM: cmpxchg: avoid warnings from macro-ized cmpxchg() implementationsRussell King
A recent change in kernel/acct.c added a new warning for many configurations on ARM: kernel/acct.c: In function 'acct_pin_kill': arch/arm/include/asm/cmpxchg.h:122:3: warning: value computed is not used [-Wunused-value] The code is in fact correct, it's just a cmpxchg() call that intentionally ignores the result, and no other code does that. The warning does not show up on x86 because of the way that its cmpxchg() macro is written. This changes the ARM implementation to use a similar construct with a compound expression instead of a typecast, which causes the compiler to not complain about an unused result. 2015-06-02ARM: 8365/1: introduce sp804_timer_disable and remove arm_timer.h inclusionSudeep Holla
The header asm/hardware/arm_timer.h is included in various machine specific files to access TIMER_CTRL and initialise to a known state. This patch introduces a new function sp804_timer_disable to disable the SP804 timers and uses the same for initialising the timers to known(off) state, thereby removing the dependency on the header asm/hardware/arm_timer.h This change is in prepartion to move sp804 timer support out of arch/arm so that it can be used on ARM64 platforms. 2015-06-01ARM: redo TTBR setup code for LPAERussell King
Re-engineer the LPAE TTBR setup code. Rather than passing some shifted address in order to fit in a CPU register, pass either a full physical address (in the case of r4, r5 for TTBR0) or a PFN (for TTBR1). This removes the ARCH_PGD_SHIFT hack, and the last dangerous user of cpu_set_ttbr() in the secondary CPU startup code path (which was there to re-set TTBR1 to the appropriate high physical address space on Keystone2.) 2015-06-01ARM: keystone2: rename init_meminfo to pv_fixupRussell King
The init_meminfo() method is not about initialising meminfo - it's about fixing up the physical to virtual translation so that we use a different physical address space, possibly above the 4GB physical address space. Therefore, the name "init_meminfo()" is confusing. Rename it to pv_fixup() instead. 2015-06-01ARM: keystone2: move update of the phys-to-virt constants into generic codeRussell King
Make the init_meminfo function return the offset to be applied to the phys-to-virt translation constants. This allows us to move the update into generic code, along with the requirements for this update. This avoids platforms having to know the details of the phys-to-virt translation support. 2015-05-08ARM: 8220/1: allow modules outside of bl rangeArd Biesheuvel
Loading modules far away from the kernel in memory is problematic because the 'bl' instruction only has limited reach, and modules are not built with PLTs. Instead of using the -mlong-calls option (which affects all compiler emitted bl instructions, but not the ones in assembler), this patch allocates some additional space at module load time, and populates it with PLT like veneers when encountering relocations that are out of range. This should work with all relocations against symbols exported by the kernel, including those resulting from GCC generated implicit function calls for ftrace etc. The module memory size increases by about 5% on average, regardless of whether any PLT entries were actually needed. However, due to the page based rounding that occurs when allocating module memory, the average memory footprint increase is negligible. 2015-05-08ARM: 8341/1: io: Unpessimize relaxed io accessorsPeter Hurley
commit 195bbcac2e5c12f7fb ("ARM: 7500/1: io: avoid writeback addressing modes for __raw_ accessors") disables writeback addressing modes for raw i/o. However, the "+Q" output constraint forces the compiler to disable load hoist optimizations (because the output constraint informs the compiler of memory stores which the compiler assumes may alias other memory). Since the relaxed accessors only guarantee ordering wrt i/o accesses to the same device and not to main memory, there's never a possibility of an accessor invalidating a hoisted load (because only non-i/o loads would have been hoisted). The effect is especially noticable with complex address inputs in loops. 2015-05-03ARM: 8347/1: dma-mapping: fix off-by-one check in arm_setup_iommu_dma_opsMarek Szyprowski
Patch 22b3c181c6c324a46f71aae806d8ddbe61d25761 ("arm: dma-mapping: limit IOMMU mapping size") added a check for IO address space size. However this patch broke IOMMU initialization for typical platforms initialized from device tree, which get the default IO address space size of 4GiB. This value doesn't fit into size_t and fails a check introduced by that commit resulting in failed dma-mapping/iommu initialization. This patch fixes this issue by adding proper support for full 4GiB address space size. All backends are reimplementing a variation of the same CPU reference count handling. They are also responsible for driving the MCPM special low-level locking. This is needless duplication, involving algorithmic requirements that are not necessarily obvious to the uninitiated. And from past code review experience, those were all initially implemented badly. After 3 years, it is time to refactor as much common code to the core MCPM facility to make the backends as simple as possible. To avoid a flag day, the new scheme is introduced in parallel to the existing backend interface. When all backends are converted over, the compatibility interface could be removed. The new MCPM backend interface implements simpler methods addressing very platform specific tasks performed under lock protection while keeping the algorithmic complexity and race avoidance local to the core code. 2015-04-02ARM: 8338/1: kexec: Relax SMP validation to improve DT compatibilityGeert Uytterhoeven
When trying to kexec into a new kernel on a platform where multiple CPU cores are present, but no SMP bringup code is available yet, the kexec_load system call fails with: kexec_load failed: Invalid argument The SMP test added to machine_kexec_prepare() in commit 2103f6cba61a8b8b ("ARM: 7807/1: kexec: validate CPU hotplug support") wants to prohibit kexec on SMP platforms where it cannot disable secondary CPUs. However, this test is too strict: if the secondary CPUs couldn't be enabled in the first place, there's no need to disable them later at kexec time. Hence skip the test in the absence of SMP bringup code. This allows to add all CPU cores to the DTS from the beginning, without having to implement SMP bringup first, improving DT compatibility. 2015-03-30KVM: arm/arm64: rework MMIO abort handling to use KVM MMIO busAndre Przywara
Currently we have struct kvm_exit_mmio for encapsulating MMIO abort data to be passed on from syndrome decoding all the way down to the VGIC register handlers. Now as we switch the MMIO handling to be routed through the KVM MMIO bus, it does not make sense anymore to use that structure already from the beginning. So we keep the data in local variables until we put them into the kvm_io_bus framework. Then we fill kvm_exit_mmio in the VGIC only, making it a VGIC private structure. On that way we replace the data buffer in that structure with a pointer pointing to a single location in a local variable, so we get rid of some copying on the way. With all of the virtual GIC emulation code now being registered with the kvm_io_bus, we can remove all of the old MMIO handling code and its dispatching functionality. I didn't bother to rename kvm_exit_mmio (to vgic_mmio or something), because that touches a lot of code lines without any good reason. This is based on an original patch by Nikolay. 2015-03-28ARM: 8320/1: fix integer overflow in ELF_ET_DYN_BASEAndrey Ryabinin
Usually ELF_ET_DYN_BASE is 2/3 of TASK_SIZE. With 3G/1G user/kernel split this is not so, because 2*TASK_SIZE overflows 32 bits, so the actual value of ELF_ET_DYN_BASE is: (2 * TASK_SIZE / 3) = 0x2a000000 When ASLR is disabled PIE binaries will load at ELF_ET_DYN_BASE address. On 32bit platforms AddressSanitzer uses addresses [0x20000000 - 0x40000000] for shadow memory [1]. So ASan doesn't work for PIE binaries when ASLR disabled as it fails to map shadow memory. Also after Kees's 'split ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLR' patchset PIE binaries has a high chance of loading somewhere in between [0x2a000000 - 0x40000000] even if ASLR enabled. This makes ASan with PIE absolutely incompatible. Fix overflow by dividing TASK_SIZE prior to multiplying. Avoid secure transactions while probing the CCI PMU. The existing code makes use of the Peripheral ID2 (PID2) register to determine the revision of the CCI400, which requires a secure transaction. This puts a limitation on the usage of the driver on systems running non-secure Linux(e.g, ARM64). Updated the device-tree binding for cci pmu node to add the explicit revision number for the compatible field. The supported strings are : arm,cci-400-pmu,r0 arm,cci-400-pmu,r1 arm,cci-400-pmu - DEPRECATED. See NOTE below NOTE: If the revision is not mentioned, we need to probe the cci revision, which could be fatal on a platform running non-secure. We need a reliable way to know if we can poke the CCI registers at runtime on ARM32. We depend on 'mcpm_is_available()' when it is available. mcpm_is_available() returns true only when there is a registered driver for mcpm. Otherwise, we assume that we don't have secure access, and skips probing the revision number(ARM64 case). The MCPM should figure out if it is safe to access the CCI. Unfortunately there isn't a reliable way to indicate the same via dtb. This patch doesn't address/change the current situation. It only deals with the CCI-PMU, leaving the assumptions about the secure access as it has been, prior to this patch. Historically, the PMU devicetree bindings have expected SPIs to be listed in order of *logical* CPU number. This is problematic for bootloaders, especially when the boot CPU (logical ID 0) isn't listed first in the devicetree. This patch adds a new optional property, interrupt-affinity, to the PMU node which allows the interrupt affinity to be described using a list of phandled to CPU nodes, with each entry in the list corresponding to the SPI at the same index in the interrupts property. 2015-03-24ARM: cpuidle: Add a cpuidle ops structure to be used for DTDaniel Lezcano
The current state of the different cpuidle drivers is the different PM operations are passed via the platform_data using the platform driver paradigm. This approach allowed to split the low level PM code from the arch specific and the generic cpuidle code. Unfortunately there are complaints about this approach as, in the context of the single kernel image, we have multiple drivers loaded in memory for nothing and the platform driver is not adequate for cpuidle. This patch provides a common interface via cpuidle ops for all new cpuidle driver and a definition for the device tree. It will allow with the next patches to a have a common definition with ARM64 and share the same cpuidle driver. The code is optimized to use the __init section intensively in order to reduce the memory footprint after the driver is initialized and unify the function names with ARM64. 2015-03-23arm64: KVM: use ID map with increased VA range if requiredArd Biesheuvel
This patch modifies the HYP init code so it can deal with system RAM residing at an offset which exceeds the reach of VA_BITS. Like for EL1, this involves configuring an additional level of translation for the ID map. However, in case of EL2, this implies that all translations use the extra level, as we cannot seamlessly switch between translation tables with different numbers of translation levels. So add an extra translation table at the root level. Since the ID map and the runtime HYP map are guaranteed not to overlap, they can share this root level, and we can essentially merge these two tables into one. 2015-03-12arm/arm64: KVM: Implement Stage-2 page agingMarc Zyngier
Until now, KVM/arm didn't care much for page aging (who was swapping anyway?), and simply provided empty hooks to the core KVM code. With server-type systems now being available, things are quite different. This patch implements very simple support for page aging, by clearing the Access flag in the Stage-2 page tables. On access fault, the current fault handling will write the PTE or PMD again, putting the Access flag back on. It should be possible to implement a much faster handling for Access faults, but that's left for a later patch. With this in place, performance in VMs is degraded much more gracefully.
