2020-08-20ARM: s3c: move into a common directoryArnd Bergmann
s3c24xx and s3c64xx have a lot in common, but are split across three separate directories, which makes the interaction of the header files more complicated than necessary. Move all three directories into a new mach-s3c, with a minimal set of changes to each file. 2020-08-20ARM: s3c: remove cpufreq header dependenciesArnd Bergmann
The cpufreq drivers are split between the machine directory and the drivers/cpufreq directory. In order to share header files after we convert s3c to multiplatform, those headers have to live in a different global location. Move them to linux/soc/samsung/ in lack of a better place. 2020-08-19ARM: samsung: make pm-debug platform independentArnd Bergmann
The pm-debug code is one of the few things shared between s3c24xx/s3c64xx and the newer s5pv210. In order to make s5pv210 independent of plat-samsung, change the common bits of this code to no longer reference the s3c specific bits. In particular, all the CPU checks need to be moved out of the common code into platform specific files. 2020-08-19ARM: samsung: remove s3c_pm_debug_init()Arnd Bergmann
On s3c24xx and s3c64xx, this is just a wrapper around s3c_pm_debug_init_uart(), but this function does not exist on s5pv210, which always uses an empty stub as CONFIG_SAMSUNG_ATAGS is normally not set. In a configuration that supports both s5pv210 and s3c64xx, we would always call the s3c64xx function, which is probably incorrect when running on s5pv210. Remove the function call completely on s5pv210 and skip the wrapper on s3c as a cleanup. As a side-effect, the s3c64xx behavior is now always the same, regardless of whether it is a DT-only configuration or both DT and ATAGS are supported for booting. Similarly to commit f6361c6b3880 ("ARM: S3C24XX: remove separate restart code"), the platform watchdog reset code can be removed in favor of a generic watchdog driver which already handles reset. The previous method had a fallback to soft_restart() which now is gone. The commit also removes a FIXME note about calling s3c64xx_clk_init() inside s3c64xx_init_irq(). No one fixed this since long time and the note is not meaningful anymore because watchdog part is removed. 2020-08-19ARM: samsung: remove HAVE_S3C2410_WATCHDOG and use direct dependenciesKrzysztof Kozlowski
A separate Kconfig option HAVE_S3C2410_WATCHDOG for Samsung SoCs is not really needed and the s3c24xx watchdog driver can depend on Samsung ARM architectures instead. The "HAVE_xxx_WATCHDOG" pattern of dependency is not popular and Samsung platforms are here exceptions. All others just depend on CONFIG_ARCH_xxx. 2020-03-18backlight: pwm_bl: Switch to full GPIO descriptorLinus Walleij
The PWM backlight still supports passing a enable GPIO line as platform data using the legacy <linux/gpio.h> API. It turns out that ever board using this mechanism except one is pass .enable_gpio = -1. So we drop all these cargo-culted -1's from all instances of this platform data in the kernel. The remaning board, Palm TC, is converted to pass a machine descriptior table with the "enable" GPIO instead, and delete the platform data entry for enable_gpio and the code handling it and things should work smoothly with the new API. 2020-01-23usb: phy: phy-gpio-vbus-usb: Convert to GPIO descriptorsLinus Walleij
Instead of using the legacy GPIO API and keeping track on polarity inversion semantics in the driver, switch to use GPIO descriptors for this driver and change all consumers in the process. This makes it possible to retire platform data completely: the only remaining platform data member was "wakeup" which was intended to make the vbus interrupt wakeup capable, but was not set by any users and thus remained unused. VBUS was not waking any devices up. Leave a comment about it so later developers using the platform can consider setting it to always enabled so plugging in USB wakes up the platform. Instead of passing a global GPIO number for the enable GPIO, pass a descriptor looked up from the device tree node or the board file decriptor table for the regulator. There is a single board file passing the GPIOs for LDO1 and LDO2 through platform data, so augment this to pass descriptors associated with the i2c device as well. The special GPIO enable DT property for the enable GPIO is nonstandard but this was accomodated in commit 6a537d48461deacc57c07ed86d9915e5aa4b3539 "gpio: of: Support regulator nonstandard GPIO properties". As we augmented the regulator core to accept a GPIO descriptor instead of a GPIO number, we can augment the fixed GPIO regulator to look up and pass that descriptor directly from device tree or board GPIO descriptor look up tables. Some boards just auto-enumerate their fixed regulator platform devices and I have assumed they get names like "fixed-regulator.0" but it's pretty hard to guess this. I need some testing from board maintainers to be sure. Other boards are straight forward, using just plain "fixed-regulator" (ID -1) or "fixed-regulator.1" hammering down the device ID. It seems the da9055 and da9211 has never got around to actually passing any enable gpio into its platform data (not the in-tree code anyway) so we can just decide to simply pass a descriptor instead. The fixed GPIO-controlled regulator in mach-pxa/ezx.c was confusingly named "*_dummy_supply_device" while it is a very real device backed by a GPIO line. There is nothing dummy about it at all, so I renamed it with the infix *_regulator_* as part of this patch set. Intel MID portions tested by Andy. The special GPIO enable DT property for the enable GPIO is nonstandard but this was accomodated in commit 6a537d48461deacc57c07ed86d9915e5aa4b3539 "gpio: of: Support regulator nonstandard GPIO properties". 2018-02-14spi: spi-gpio: Rewrite to use GPIO descriptorsLinus Walleij
This converts the bit-banged GPIO SPI driver to looking up and using GPIO descriptors to get a handle on GPIO lines for SCK, MOSI, MISO and all CS lines. All existing board files are converted in one go to keep it all consistent. With these conversions I rarely find any interrim steps that makes any sense. Device tree probing and GPIO handling should work like before also after this patch. For board files, we stop using controller data to pass the GPIO line for chip select, instead we pass this as a GPIO descriptor lookup like everything else. In some s3c24xx machines the names of the SPI devices were set to "spi-gpio" rather than "spi_gpio" which can never have worked, I fixed it working (I guess) as part of this patch set. Sometimes I wonder how this code got upstream in the first place, it obviously is not tested. mach-s3c64xx/mach-smartq.c has the same problem and additionally defines the *same* GPIO line for MOSI and MISO which is not going to be accepted by gpiolib. As the lines were number 1,2,2 I assumed it was a typo and use lines 1,2,3. A comment gives awat that line 0 is chip select though no actual SPI device is provided for the LCD supposed to be on this bit-banged SPI bus. I left it intact instead of just deleting the bus though. Kill off board file code that try to initialize the SPI lines to the same values that they will later be set by the spi_gpio driver anyways. Given the huge number of weird things in these board files I do not think this code is very tested or put in with much afterthought anyways. In order to assert that we do not get performance regressions on this crucial bing-banged driver, a ran a script like this dumping the Ilitek ILI9322 regmap 10000 times (it has no caching obviously) on an otherwise idle system in two iterations before and after the patches: #!/bin/sh for run in `seq 10000` do cat /debug/regmap/spi0.0/registers > /dev/null done Before the patch: time test.sh real 3m 41.03s user 0m 29.41s sys 3m 7.22s time test.sh real 3m 44.24s user 0m 32.31s sys 3m 7.60s After the patch: time test.sh real 3m 41.32s user 0m 28.92s sys 3m 8.08s time test.sh real 3m 39.92s user 0m 30.20s sys 3m 5.56s So any performance differences seems to be in the error margin. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. The xtal_f and xusbxti_f static variables are modified only through __init accessors (like s3c64xx_set_xtal_freq()). Later these variables are used only in read-only way so we can mark them __ro_after_init to increase code safeness.
