2017-07-12kernel/watchdog: introduce arch_touch_nmi_watchdog()Nicholas Piggin
For architectures that define HAVE_NMI_WATCHDOG, instead of having them provide the complete touch_nmi_watchdog() function, just have them provide arch_touch_nmi_watchdog(). This gives the generic code more flexibility in implementing this function, and arch implementations don't miss out on touching the softlockup watchdog or other generic details. 2017-04-14blackfin: time-ts: Set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticksNicolai Stange
In preparation for making the clockevents core NTP correction aware, all clockevent device drivers must set ->min_delta_ticks and ->max_delta_ticks rather than ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns: a clockevent device's rate is going to change dynamically and thus, the ratio of ns to ticks ceases to stay invariant. Make the blackfin arch's clockevent driver initialize these fields properly. This patch alone doesn't introduce any change in functionality as the clockevents core still looks exclusively at the (untouched) ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns. As soon as this has changed, a followup patch will purge the initialization of ->min_delta_ns and ->max_delta_ns from this driver. 2017-04-03debug: Fix __bug_table[] in arch linker scriptsPeter Zijlstra
The kbuild test robot reported this build failure on a number of architectures: > make.cross ARCH=arm > lib/lib.a(bug.o): In function `find_bug': > >> lib/bug.c:135: undefined reference to `__start___bug_table' > >> lib/bug.c:135: undefined reference to `__stop___bug_table' Caused by: 19d436268dde ("debug: Add _ONCE() logic to report_bug()") Which moved the BUG_TABLE from RO_DATA_SECTION() to RW_DATA_SECTION(), but a number of architectures don't use RW_DATA_SECTION(), so they ended up with no __bug_table[] ... 2016-11-22ptrace: Don't allow accessing an undumpable mmEric W. Biederman
It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only executables. As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing began to read the target processes mm. In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls. This bug has always existed in Linux. 2016-10-19mm: replace access_process_vm() write parameter with gup_flagsLorenzo Stoakes
This removes the 'write' argument from access_process_vm() and replaces it with 'gup_flags' as use of this function previously silently implied FOLL_FORCE, whereas after this patch callers explicitly pass this flag. We make this explicit as use of FOLL_FORCE can result in surprising behaviour (and hence bugs) within the mm subsystem. 2016-10-07nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpusChris Metcalf
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures. 2016-08-24ftrace: Add return address pointer to ftrace_ret_stackJosh Poimboeuf
Storing this value will help prevent unwinders from getting out of sync with the function graph tracer ret_stack. Now instead of needing a stateful iterator, they can compare the return address pointer to find the right ret_stack entry. Note that an array of 50 ftrace_ret_stack structs is allocated for every task. So when an arch implements this, it will add either 200 or 400 bytes of memory usage per task (depending on whether it's a 32-bit or 64-bit platform). The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Semantic patches for this change (at least most of them): virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; @@ f(..., - struct dma_attrs *attrs + unsigned long attrs , ...) { ... } @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) and // Options: --all-includes virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; type t; @@ t f(..., struct dma_attrs *attrs); @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1468399300-5399-2-git-send-email-k.kozlowski@samsung.com Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Kozlowski <k.kozlowski@samsung.com> Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> Acked-by: Mark Salter <msalter@redhat.com> [c6x] Acked-by: Jesper Nilsson <jesper.nilsson@axis.com> [cris] Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> [drm] Reviewed-by: Bart Van Assche <bart.vanassche@sandisk.com> Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Fabien Dessenne <fabien.dessenne@st.com> [bdisp] Reviewed-by: Marek Szyprowski <m.szyprowski@samsung.com> [vb2-core] Acked-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> [xen] Acked-by: Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk <konrad.wilk@oracle.com> [xen swiotlb] Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Richard Kuo <rkuo@codeaurora.org> [hexagon] Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> [m68k] Acked-by: Gerald Schaefer <gerald.schaefer@de.ibm.com> [s390] Acked-by: Bjorn Andersson <bjorn.andersson@linaro.org> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> [avr32] Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> [arc] Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> [arm64 and dma-iommu] Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2016-06-16locking/atomic, arch/blackfin: Implement atomic_fetch_{add,sub,and,or,xor}()Peter Zijlstra
Implement FETCH-OP atomic primitives, these are very similar to the existing OP-RETURN primitives we already have, except they return the value of the atomic variable _before_ modification. This is especially useful for irreversible operations -- such as bitops (because it becomes impossible to reconstruct the state prior to modification). 2016-03-25arch, ftrace: for KASAN put hard/soft IRQ entries into separate sectionsAlexander Potapenko
KASAN needs to know whether the allocation happens in an IRQ handler. This lets us strip everything below the IRQ entry point to reduce the number of unique stack traces needed to be stored. Move the definition of __irq_entry to <linux/interrupt.h> so that the users don't need to pull in <linux/ftrace.h>. Also introduce the __softirq_entry macro which is similar to __irq_entry, but puts the corresponding functions to the .softirqentry.text section. 2016-02-16gpio: Include linux/gpio.h instead of asm/gpio.hBjorn Helgaas
Most arches have an asm/gpio.h that merely includes linux/gpio.h. The others select ARCH_HAVE_CUSTOM_GPIO_H, and when that's selected, linux/gpio.h includes asm/gpio.h. Therefore, code should include linux/gpio.h instead of including asm/gpio.h directly. Remove includes of asm/gpio.h, adding an include of linux/gpio.h when necessary.
