Starting with following patch MIPS Malta is not able to boot: | commit 79edff12060fe7772af08607eff50c0e2486c5ba | Author: Rob Herring <robh@kernel.org> | scripts/dtc: Update to upstream version v1.6.0-51-g183df9e9c2b9 The reason is the alignment test added to the fdt_ro_probe_(). To fix this issue, we need to make sure that fdt_buf is aligned. Since the dtc patch was designed to uncover potential issue, I handle initial MIPS Malta patch as initial bug. 2021-07-21MIPS: Malta: Do not byte-swap accesses to the CBUS UARTMaciej W. Rozycki
Correct big-endian accesses to the CBUS UART, a Malta on-board discrete TI16C550C part wired directly to the system controller's device bus, and do not use byte swapping with the 32-bit accesses to the device. The CBUS is used for devices such as the boot flash memory needed early on in system bootstrap even before PCI has been initialised. Therefore it uses the system controller's device bus, which follows the endianness set with the CPU, which means no byte-swapping is ever required for data accesses to CBUS, unlike with PCI. The CBUS UART uses the UPIO_MEM32 access method, that is the `readl' and `writel' MMIO accessors, which on the MIPS platform imply byte-swapping with PCI systems. Consequently the wrong byte lane is accessed with the big-endian configuration and the UART is not correctly accessed. As it happens the UPIO_MEM32BE access method makes use of the `ioread32' and `iowrite32' MMIO accessors, which still use `readl' and `writel' respectively, however they byte-swap data passed, effectively cancelling swapping done with the accessors themselves and making it suitable for the CBUS UART. Make the CBUS UART switch between UPIO_MEM32 and UPIO_MEM32BE then, based on the endianness selected. With this change in place the device is correctly recognised with big-endian Malta at boot, along with the Super I/O devices behind PCI: Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 5 ports, IRQ sharing enabled printk: console [ttyS0] disabled serial8250.0: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A printk: console [ttyS0] enabled printk: bootconsole [uart8250] disabled serial8250.0: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3, base_baud = 115200) is a 16550A serial8250.0: ttyS2 at MMIO 0x1f000900 (irq = 20, base_baud = 230400) is a 16550A Fixes: e7c4782f92fc ("[MIPS] Put an end to <asm/serial.h>'s long and annyoing existence") Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # v2.6.23+ Reviewed-by: Philippe Mathieu-Daudé <f4bug@amsat.org> Signed-off-by: Maciej W. 2021-06-16MIPS: Malta: Enable magic multipliers for Super I/O UARTsMaciej W. Rozycki
The SMSC FDC37M817 Super I/O chip has a configuration feature that lets it support special UART divisor values of 32770 and 32769 for bit rates of 230400 and 460800 bits per second respectively. Our 8250 driver core provides support for these special divisors via the UPF_MAGIC_MULTIPLIER flag, and YAMON firmware unconditionally configures the Super I/O chip with these divisors enabled as well, so all we need to do in platform setup for these bit rates to work is to set the flag. 2021-02-13driver core: lift dma_default_coherent into common codeChristoph Hellwig
Lift the dma_default_coherent variable from the mips architecture code to the driver core. This allows an architecture to sdefault all device to be DMA coherent at run time, even if the kernel is build with support for DMA noncoherent device. By allowing device_initialize to set the ->dma_coherent field to this default the amount of arch hooks required for this behavior can be greatly reduced. 2017-11-03Update MIPS email addressesPaul Burton
MIPS will soon not be a part of Imagination Technologies, and as such many @imgtec.com email addresses will no longer be valid. This patch updates the addresses for those who: - Have 10 or more patches in mainline authored using an @imgtec.com email address, or any patches dated within the past year. - Are still with Imagination but leaving as part of the MIPS business unit, as determined from an internal email address list. - Haven't already updated their email address (ie. JamesH) or expressed a desire to be excluded (ie. Maciej). - Acked v2 or earlier of this patch, which leaves Deng-Cheng, Matt & myself. New addresses are of the form firstname.lastname@mips.com, and all verified against an internal email address list. An entry is added to .mailmap for each person such that get_maintainer.pl will report the new addresses rather than @imgtec.com addresses which will soon be dead. Instances of the affected addresses throughout the tree are then mechanically replaced with the new @mips.com address. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-08-30MIPS: CPS: Have asm/mips-cps.h include CM & CPC headersPaul Burton
With Coherence Manager (CM) 3.5 information about the topology of the system, which has previously only been available through & accessed from the CM, is now also provided by the Cluster Power Controller (CPC). This includes a new CPC_CONFIG register mirroring GCR_CONFIG, and similarly a new CPC_Cx_CONFIG register mirroring GCR_Cx_CONFIG. In preparation for adjusting functions such as mips_cm_numcores(), which have previously only needed to access the CM, to also access the CPC this patch modifies the way we use the various CPS headers. Rather than having users include asm/mips-cm.h or asm/mips-cpc.h individually we instead have users include asm/mips-cps.h which in turn includes asm/mips-cm.h & asm/mips-cpc.h. This means that users will gain access to both CM & CPC registers by including one header, and most importantly it makes asm/mips-cps.h an ideal location for helper functions which need to access the various components of the CPS. 2017-08-29MIPS: CM: Use BIT/GENMASK for register fields, order & drop shiftsPaul Burton
There's no reason for us not to use BIT() & GENMASK() in asm/mips-cm.h when declaring macros corresponding to register fields. This patch modifies our definitions to do so. The *_SHF definitions are removed entirely - they duplicate information found in the masks, are infrequently used & can be replaced with use of __ffs() where needed. The *_MSK definitions then lose their _MSK suffix which is now somewhat redundant, and users are modified to match. The field definitions are moved to follow the appropriate register's accessor functions, which helps to keep the field definitions in order & to find the appropriate fields for a given register. Whilst here a comment is added describing each register & including its name, which is helpful both for linking the register back to hardware documentation & for grepping purposes. This also cleans up a couple of issues that became obvious as a result of making the changes described above: - We previously had definitions for GCR_Cx_RESET_EXT_BASE & a phony copy of that named GCR_RESET_EXT_BASE - a register which does not exist. The bad definitions were added by commit 497e803ebf98 ("MIPS: smp-cps: Ensure secondary cores start with EVA disabled") and made use of from boot_core(), which is now modified to use the GCR_Cx_RESET_EXT_BASE definitions. - We had a typo in CM_GCR_ERROR_CAUSE_ERRINGO_MSK - we now correctly define this as inFo rather than inGo. Now that we don't duplicate field information between _SHF & _MSK definitions, and keep the fields next to the register accessors, it will be much easier to spot & prevent any similar oddities being introduced in the future. 2017-04-20MIPS/Malta: Probe gic-timer via devicetreeMatt Redfearn
The Malta platform is the only platform remaining to probe the GIC clocksource via gic_clocksource_init. This route hardcodes an expected virq number based on MIPS_GIC_IRQ_BASE, which can be fragile to the eventual virq layout. 2017-02-14MIPS: Audit and remove any unnecessary uses of module.hPaul Gortmaker
Historically a lot of these existed because we did not have a distinction between what was modular code and what was providing support to modules via EXPORT_SYMBOL and friends. That changed when we forked out support for the latter into the export.h file. This means we should be able to reduce the usage of module.h in code that is obj-y Makefile or bool Kconfig. In the case of some code where it is modular, we can extend that to also include files that are building basic support functionality but not related to loading or registering the final module; such files also have no need whatsoever for module.h The advantage in removing such instances is that module.h itself sources about 15 other headers; adding significantly to what we feed cpp, and it can obscure what headers we are effectively using. Since module.h might have been the implicit source for init.h (for __init) and for export.h (for EXPORT_SYMBOL) we consider each instance for the presence of either and replace/add as needed. Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code. Build coverage of all the mips defconfigs revealed the module.h header was masking a couple of implicit include instances, so we add the appropriate headers there. 2016-12-25clocksource: Use a plain u64 instead of cycle_tThomas Gleixner
There is no point in having an extra type for extra confusion. u64 is unambiguous. Conversion was done with the following coccinelle script: @rem@ @@ -typedef u64 cycle_t; @fix@ typedef cycle_t; @@ -cycle_t +u64 Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: John Stultz <john.stultz@linaro.org>
2016-10-06MIPS: Print CM error reports upon bus errorsPaul Burton
If a bus error occurs on a system with a MIPS Coherence Manager (CM) then the CM may hold useful diagnostic information. Printing this out has so far been left up to boards, with the requirement that they register a board_be_handler function & call mips_cm_error_decode() from there. In order to avoid boards other than Malta needing to duplicate this code, call mips_cm_error_decode() automatically if the board registers no board_be_handler, and remove the Malta implementation of that. This patch results in no functional change, but removes a further piece of platform-specific code. 2016-10-06MIPS: Sanitise coherentio semanticsPaul Burton
The coherentio variable has previously been used as a boolean value, indicating whether the user specified that coherent I/O should be enabled or disabled. It failed to take into account the case where the user does not specify any preference, in which case it makes sense that we should default to coherent I/O if the hardware supports it (hw_coherentio is non-zero). Introduce an enum to clarify the 3 different values of coherentio & use it throughout the code, modifying plat_device_is_coherent() & r4k_cache_init() to take into account the default case.
