git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: - Rework of the kprobe/uprobe and synthetic events to consolidate all the dynamic event code. This will make changes in the future easier. - Partial rewrite of the function graph tracing infrastructure. This will allow for multiple users of hooking onto functions to get the callback (return) of the function. This is the ground work for having kprobes and function graph tracer using one code base. - Clean up of the histogram code that will facilitate adding more features to the histograms in the future. - Addition of str_has_prefix() and a few use cases. There currently is a similar function strstart() that is used in a few places, but only returns a bool and not a length. These instances will be removed in the future to use str_has_prefix() instead. - A few other various clean ups as well. * tag 'trace-v4.21' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace: (57 commits) tracing: Use the return of str_has_prefix() to remove open coded numbers tracing: Have the historgram use the result of str_has_prefix() for len of prefix tracing: Use str_has_prefix() instead of using fixed sizes tracing: Use str_has_prefix() helper for histogram code string.h: Add str_has_prefix() helper function tracing: Make function ‘ftrace_exports’ static tracing: Simplify printf'ing in seq_print_sym tracing: Avoid -Wformat-nonliteral warning tracing: Merge seq_print_sym_short() and seq_print_sym_offset() tracing: Add hist trigger comments for variable-related fields tracing: Remove hist trigger synth_var_refs tracing: Use hist trigger's var_ref array to destroy var_refs tracing: Remove open-coding of hist trigger var_ref management tracing: Use var_refs[] for hist trigger reference checking tracing: Change strlen to sizeof for hist trigger static strings tracing: Remove unnecessary hist trigger struct field tracing: Fix ftrace_graph_get_ret_stack() to use task and not current seq_buf: Use size_t for len in seq_buf_puts() seq_buf: Make seq_buf_puts() null-terminate the buffer arm64: Use ftrace_graph_get_ret_stack() instead of curr_ret_stack ...

2018-12-28Merge tag 'y2038-for-4.21' of ↵Linus Torvalds
ssh://gitolite.kernel.org:/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/playground Pull y2038 updates from Arnd Bergmann: "More syscalls and cleanups This concludes the main part of the system call rework for 64-bit time_t, which has spread over most of year 2018, the last six system calls being - ppoll - pselect6 - io_pgetevents - recvmmsg - futex - rt_sigtimedwait As before, nothing changes for 64-bit architectures, while 32-bit architectures gain another entry point that differs only in the layout of the timespec structure. Hopefully in the next release we can wire up all 22 of those system calls on all 32-bit architectures, which gives us a baseline version for glibc to start using them. This does not include the clock_adjtime, getrusage/waitid, and getitimer/setitimer system calls. I still plan to have new versions of those as well, but they are not required for correct operation of the C library since they can be emulated using the old 32-bit time_t based system calls. Aside from the system calls, there are also a few cleanups here, removing old kernel internal interfaces that have become unused after all references got removed. The arch/sh cleanups are part of this, there were posted several times over the past year without a reaction from the maintainers, while the corresponding changes made it into all other architectures" * tag 'y2038-for-4.21' of ssh://gitolite.kernel.org:/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/playground: timekeeping: remove obsolete time accessors vfs: replace current_kernel_time64 with ktime equivalent timekeeping: remove timespec_add/timespec_del timekeeping: remove unused {read,update}_persistent_clock sh: remove board_time_init() callback sh: remove unused rtc_sh_get/set_time infrastructure sh: sh03: rtc: push down rtc class ops into driver sh: dreamcast: rtc: push down rtc class ops into driver y2038: signal: Add compat_sys_rt_sigtimedwait_time64 y2038: signal: Add sys_rt_sigtimedwait_time32 y2038: socket: Add compat_sys_recvmmsg_time64 y2038: futex: Add support for __kernel_timespec y2038: futex: Move compat implementation into futex.c io_pgetevents: use __kernel_timespec pselect6: use __kernel_timespec ppoll: use __kernel_timespec signal: Add restore_user_sigmask() signal: Add set_user_sigmask()

2018-12-26Merge tag 'asm-generic-4.21' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull arch/sh syscall table scripting from Arnd Bergmann: "I worked with Firoz Khan to change all architectures to have their system call tables (syscall.S and asm/unistd.h) generated by a script from a more readable input file the same way that we already had on x86, s390 and arm. I offered to take those conversions through the asm-generic tree that did not get picked up by the architecture maintainers, and fortunately all but one have now been accepted into arch maintainer trees, so this branch only contains the conversion for arch/sh/, with permission from Rich. The conversion does not include the old 64-bit sh5 architecture, which has never shipped and not even compiled in a long time. The table in include/uapi/asm/unistd.h is also not included here, as Firoz is still working on that one, it will have to wait for the next following merge window, hopefully together with the addition of the 64-bit time_t system calls for the y2038 work that led to the system call table rework" * tag 'asm-generic-4.21' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic: sh: generate uapi header and syscall table header files sh: add system call table generation support sh: add __NR_syscalls along with NR_syscalls
2018-12-22sh: ftrace: Use ftrace_graph_get_ret_stack() instead of curr_ret_stackSteven Rostedt (VMware)
The structure of the ret_stack array on the task struct is going to change, and accessing it directly via the curr_ret_stack index will no longer give the ret_stack entry that holds the return address. To access that, architectures must now use ftrace_graph_get_ret_stack() to get the associated ret_stack that matches the saved return address. 2018-12-19sh: generate uapi header and syscall table header filesFiroz Khan
System call table generation script must be run to gener- ate unistd_32.h and syscall_table.h files. This patch will have changes which will invokes the script. This patch will generate unistd_32.h and syscall_table.h files by the syscall table generation script invoked by sh/Makefile and the generated files against the removed files must be identical. The generated uapi header file will be included in uapi/- asm/unistd.h and generated system call table header file will be included by kernel/syscall_32.S file. 2018-12-19sh: add system call table generation supportFiroz Khan
The system call tables are in different format in all architecture and it will be difficult to manually add, modify or delete the syscall table entries in the res- pective files. To make it easy by keeping a script and which will generate the uapi header and syscall table file. This change will also help to unify the implemen- tation across all architectures. The system call table generation script is added in kernel/syscalls directory which contain the scripts to generate both uapi header file and system call table files. The syscall.tbl will be input for the scripts. syscall.tbl contains the list of available system calls along with system call number and corresponding entry point. Add a new system call in this architecture will be possible by adding new entry in the syscall.tbl file. Adding a new table entry consisting of: - System call number. - ABI. - System call name. - Entry point name. syscallhdr.sh and syscalltbl.sh will generate uapi header unistd_32.h and syscall_table.h files respectively. Both .sh files will parse the content syscall.tbl to generate the header and table files. unistd_32.h will be included by uapi/asm/unistd.h and syscall_table.h is included by kernel/syscall_32.S - the real system call table. Please note, this support is only available for 32-bit kernel, not 64-bit kernel. As I came across the 64-bit kernel is not active for long time. ARM, s390 and x86 architecuture does have similar support. I leverage their implementation to come up with a generic solution. 2018-12-18sh: remove board_time_init() callbackArnd Bergmann
The only remaining user of board_time_init() is the of-generic machine, and that just calls the global timer_init() function. Calling that one has no effect on non-DT platforms, so we can simply call it unconditionally in place of board_time_init(). Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
2018-12-18sh: remove unused rtc_sh_get/set_time infrastructureArnd Bergmann
All platforms are now converted to RTC drivers, so this has become obsolete. The board_time_init() callback still has one caller, but could otherwise also get killed. This removes one more usage of the deprecated timespec structure, which overflows in y2038. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
2018-11-27sh/function_graph: Simplify with function_graph_enter()Steven Rostedt (VMware)
The function_graph_enter() function does the work of calling the function graph hook function and the management of the shadow stack, simplifying the work done in the architecture dependent prepare_ftrace_return(). Have superh use the new code, and remove the shadow stack management as well as having to set up the trace structure. This is needed to prepare for a fix of a design bug on how the curr_ret_stack is used. 2018-06-28media: arch: sh: ap325rxa: Use new renesas-ceu camera driverJacopo Mondi
Use the new renesas-ceu camera driver in ap325rxa board file instead of the soc_camera based sh_mobile_ceu_camera driver. Get rid of soc_camera specific components, and register CEU0 with a single video sensor (ov7725). Memory for the CEU video buffers is now reserved with membocks APIs and need to be declared as dma_coherent during machine initialization to remove that architecture specific part from CEU driver. The ap325rxa board file registers another camera (ncm03j) for which I found no driver in mainline kernel version, and that was configured/probed by sending i2c messages (of 'magic blobs) from the board file itself. I removed the sensor registration from this new version as it used soc_camera components that will be later removed. While at there update license to SPDX header and sort headers alphabetically. 2018-06-26perf/hw_breakpoint: Pass arch breakpoint struct to ↵Frederic Weisbecker
arch_check_bp_in_kernelspace() We can't pass the breakpoint directly on arch_check_bp_in_kernelspace() anymore because its architecture internal datas (struct arch_hw_breakpoint) are not yet filled by the time we call the function, and most implementation need this backend to be up to date. 2018-06-21bpf/error-inject/kprobes: Clear current_kprobe and enable preempt in kprobeMasami Hiramatsu
Clear current_kprobe and enable preemption in kprobe even if pre_handler returns !0. This simplifies function override using kprobes. Jprobe used to require to keep the preemption disabled and keep current_kprobe until it returned to original function entry. For this reason kprobe_int3_handler() and similar arch dependent kprobe handers checks pre_handler result and exit without enabling preemption if the result is !0. After removing the jprobe, Kprobes does not need to keep preempt disabled even if user handler returns !0 anymore. But since the function override handler in error-inject and bpf is also returns !0 if it overrides a function, to balancing the preempt count, it enables preemption and reset current kprobe by itself. That is a bad design that is very buggy. This fixes such unbalanced preempt-count and current_kprobes setting in kprobes, bpf and error-inject. Note: for powerpc and x86, this removes all preempt_disable from kprobe_ftrace_handler because ftrace callbacks are called under preempt disabled. 2018-06-14Kbuild: rename CC_STACKPROTECTOR[_STRONG] config variablesLinus Torvalds
The changes to automatically test for working stack protector compiler support in the Kconfig files removed the special STACKPROTECTOR_AUTO option that picked the strongest stack protector that the compiler supported. That was all a nice cleanup - it makes no sense to have the AUTO case now that the Kconfig phase can just determine the compiler support directly. HOWEVER. It also meant that doing "make oldconfig" would now _disable_ the strong stackprotector if you had AUTO enabled, because in a legacy config file, the sane stack protector configuration would look like CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE is not set # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_REGULAR is not set # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG is not set CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_AUTO=y and when you ran this through "make oldconfig" with the Kbuild changes, it would ask you about the regular CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR (that had been renamed from CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_REGULAR to just CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR), but it would think that the STRONG version used to be disabled (because it was really enabled by AUTO), and would disable it in the new config, resulting in: CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE=y CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y # CONFIG_CC_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG is not set CONFIG_CC_HAS_SANE_STACKPROTECTOR=y That's dangerously subtle - people could suddenly find themselves with the weaker stack protector setup without even realizing. The solution here is to just rename not just the old RECULAR stack protector option, but also the strong one. This does that by just removing the CC_ prefix entirely for the user choices, because it really is not about the compiler support (the compiler support now instead automatially impacts _visibility_ of the options to users). This results in "make oldconfig" actually asking the user for their choice, so that we don't have any silent subtle security model changes. The end result would generally look like this: CONFIG_HAVE_CC_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_STACKPROTECTOR_NONE=y CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR=y CONFIG_STACKPROTECTOR_STRONG=y CONFIG_CC_HAS_SANE_STACKPROTECTOR=y where the "CC_" versions really are about internal compiler infrastructure, not the user selections. Most do the same things consisting in a field in a per-cpu struct (often irq_cpustat_t) accessed through per-cpu ops. We can provide instead a generic efficient version that most of them can use. In fact s390 is the only exception because the field is stored in lowcore. - Support for level!?! triggered MSI (ARM) Over the past couple of years, we've seen some SoCs coming up with ways of signalling level interrupts using a new flavor of MSIs, where the MSI controller uses two distinct messages: one that raises a virtual line, and one that lowers it. The target MSI controller is in charge of maintaining the state of the line. This allows for a much simplified HW signal routing (no need to have hundreds of discrete lines to signal level interrupts if you already have a memory bus), but results in a departure from the current idea the kernel has of MSIs. - Support for Meson-AXG GPIO irqchip - Large stm32 irqchip rework (suspend/resume, hierarchical domains) - More SPDX conversions * 'irq-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (36 commits) ARM: dts: stm32: Add exti support to stm32mp157 pinctrl ARM: dts: stm32: Add exti support for stm32mp157c pinctrl/stm32: Add irq_eoi for stm32gpio irqchip irqchip/stm32: Add suspend/resume support for hierarchy domain irqchip/stm32: Add stm32mp1 support with hierarchy domain irqchip/stm32: Prepare common functions irqchip/stm32: Add host and driver data structures irqchip/stm32: Add suspend support irqchip/stm32: Add falling pending register support irqchip/stm32: Checkpatch fix irqchip/stm32: Optimizes and cleans up stm32-exti irq_domain irqchip/meson-gpio: Add support for Meson-AXG SoCs dt-bindings: interrupt-controller: New binding for Meson-AXG SoC dt-bindings: interrupt-controller: Fix the double quotes softirq/s390: Move default mutators of overwritten softirq mask to s390 softirq/x86: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/sparc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/powerpc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/parisc: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation softirq/ia64: Switch to generic local_softirq_pending() implementation ...

Filling in struct siginfo before calling force_sig_info a tedious and error prone process, where once in a great while the wrong fields are filled out, and siginfo has been inconsistently cleared. Simplify this process by using the helper force_sig_fault. Which takes as a parameters all of the information it needs, ensures all of the fiddly bits of filling in struct siginfo are done properly and then calls force_sig_info. In short about a 5 line reduction in code for every time force_sig_info is called, which makes the calling function clearer. 2018-04-25signal: Ensure every siginfo we send has all bits initializedEric W. Biederman
Call clear_siginfo to ensure every stack allocated siginfo is properly initialized before being passed to the signal sending functions. Note: It is not safe to depend on C initializers to initialize struct siginfo on the stack because C is allowed to skip holes when initializing a structure. The initialization of struct siginfo in tracehook_report_syscall_exit was moved from the helper user_single_step_siginfo into tracehook_report_syscall_exit itself, to make it clear that the local variable siginfo gets fully initialized. In a few cases the scope of struct siginfo has been reduced to make it clear that siginfo siginfo is not used on other paths in the function in which it is declared. Instances of using memset to initialize siginfo have been replaced with calls clear_siginfo for clarity. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com>
