2021-03-24Revert "xen: fix p2m size in dom0 for disabled memory hotplug case"Roger Pau Monne
This partially reverts commit 882213990d32 ("xen: fix p2m size in dom0 for disabled memory hotplug case") There's no need to special case XEN_UNPOPULATED_ALLOC anymore in order to correctly size the p2m. The generic memory hotplug option has already been tied together with the Xen hotplug limit, so enabling memory hotplug should already trigger a properly sized p2m on Xen PV. Note that XEN_UNPOPULATED_ALLOC depends on ZONE_DEVICE which pulls in MEMORY_HOTPLUG. Leave the check added to __set_phys_to_machine and the adjusted comment about EXTRA_MEM_RATIO. 2021-03-03xen: fix p2m size in dom0 for disabled memory hotplug caseJuergen Gross
Since commit 9e2369c06c8a18 ("xen: add helpers to allocate unpopulated memory") foreign mappings are using guest physical addresses allocated via ZONE_DEVICE functionality. This will result in problems for the case of no balloon memory hotplug being configured, as the p2m list will only cover the initial memory size of the domain. Any ZONE_DEVICE allocated address will be outside the p2m range and thus a mapping can't be established with that memory address. Fix that by extending the p2m size for that case. At the same time add a check for a to be created mapping to be within the p2m limits in order to detect errors early. While changing a comment, remove some 32-bit leftovers. This is XSA-369. 2020-06-09mm: don't include asm/pgtable.h if linux/mm.h is already includedMike Rapoport
Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2. The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported architectures. Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils down to, e.g. static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address) { return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1); } static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address) { return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address); } These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined. For architectures that really need a custom version there is always possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic. These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table accessors to the new header. This patch (of 12): The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h> in the files that include <linux/mm.h>. The include statements in such cases are remove with a simple loop: for f in $(git grep -l "include <linux/mm.h>") ; do sed -i -e '/include <asm\/pgtable.h>/ d' $f done Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@alien8.de> Cc: Brian Cain <bcain@codeaurora.org> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net> Cc: "David S. 2019-09-11swiotlb-xen: simplify cache maintainanceChristoph Hellwig
Now that we know we always have the dma-noncoherent.h helpers available if we are on an architecture with support for non-coherent devices, we can just call them directly, and remove the calls to the dma-direct routines, including the fact that we call the dma_direct_map_page routines but ignore the value returned from it. Instead we now have Xen wrappers for the arch_sync_dma_for_{device,cpu} helpers that call the special Xen versions of those routines for foreign pages. Note that the new helpers get the physical address passed in addition to the dma address to avoid another translation for the local cache maintainance. The pfn_valid checks remain on the dma address as in the old code, even if that looks a little funny. Commit 9da3f2b7405440 ("x86/fault: BUG() when uaccess helpers fault on kernel addresses") introduced a regression for booting Xen PV guests. Xen PV guests are using __put_user() and __get_user() for accessing the p2m map (physical to machine frame number map) as accesses might fail in case of not populated areas of the map. With above commit using __put_user() and __get_user() for accessing kernel pages is no longer valid. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-10-31xen: support 52 bit physical addresses in pv guestsJuergen Gross
Physical addresses on processors supporting 5 level paging can be up to 52 bits wide. For a Xen pv guest running on such a machine those physical addresses have to be supported in order to be able to use any memory on the machine even if the guest itself does not support 5 level paging. So when reading/writing a MFN from/to a pte don't use the kernel's PTE_PFN_MASK but a new XEN_PTE_MFN_MASK allowing full 40 bit wide MFNs. 2017-09-23x86/asm: Fix inline asm call constraints for ClangJosh Poimboeuf
For inline asm statements which have a CALL instruction, we list the stack pointer as a constraint to convince GCC to ensure the frame pointer is set up first: static inline void foo() { register void *__sp asm(_ASM_SP); asm("call bar" : "+r" (__sp)) } Unfortunately, that pattern causes Clang to corrupt the stack pointer. The fix is easy: convert the stack pointer register variable to a global variable. It should be noted that the end result is different based on the GCC version. With GCC 6.4, this patch has exactly the same result as before: defconfig defconfig-nofp distro distro-nofp before 9820389 9491555 8816046 8516940 after 9820389 9491555 8816046 8516940 With GCC 7.2, however, GCC's behavior has changed. It now changes its behavior based on the conversion of the register variable to a global. That somehow convinces it to *always* set up the frame pointer before inserting *any* inline asm. (Therefore, listing the variable as an output constraint is a no-op and is no longer necessary.) It's a bit overkill, but the performance impact should be negligible. And in fact, there's a nice improvement with frame pointers disabled: defconfig defconfig-nofp distro distro-nofp before 9796316 9468236 9076191 8790305 after 9796957 9464267 9076381 8785949 So in summary, while listing the stack pointer as an output constraint is no longer necessary for newer versions of GCC, it's still needed for older versions. 2017-05-02xen: Revert commits da72ff5bfcb0 and 72a9b186292dBoris Ostrovsky
Recent discussion (http://marc.info/?l=xen-devel&m=149192184523741) established that commit 72a9b186292d ("xen: Remove event channel notification through Xen PCI platform device") (and thus commit da72ff5bfcb0 ("partially revert "xen: Remove event channel notification through Xen PCI platform device"")) are unnecessary and, in fact, prevent HVM guests from booting on Xen releases prior to 4.0 Therefore we revert both of those commits. The summary of that discussion is below: Here is the brief summary of the current situation: Before the offending commit (72a9b186292): 1) INTx does not work because of the reset_watches path. 2) The reset_watches path is only taken if you have Xen > 4.0 3) The Linux Kernel by default will use vector inject if the hypervisor support. So even INTx does not work no body running the kernel with Xen > 4.0 would notice. Unless he explicitly disabled this feature either in the kernel or in Xen (and this can only be disabled by modifying the code, not user-supported way to do it). After the offending commit (+ partial revert): 1) INTx is no longer support for HVM (only for PV guests). 2) Any HVM guest The kernel will not boot on Xen < 4.0 which does not have vector injection support. Since the only other mode supported is INTx which. So based on this summary, I think before commit (72a9b186292) we were in much better position from a user point of view. Recently a new dm_op[1] hypercall was added to Xen to provide a mechanism for restricting device emulators (such as QEMU) to a limited set of hypervisor operations, and being able to audit those operations in the kernel of the domain in which they run. NOTE: There is no requirement for user-space code to bounce data through locked memory buffers (as with IOCTL_PRIVCMD_HYPERCALL) since privcmd has enough information to lock the original buffers directly. 2016-09-30xen: Remove event channel notification through Xen PCI platform deviceKarimAllah Ahmed
Ever since commit 254d1a3f02eb ("xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: shutdown watches from old kernel") using the INTx interrupt from Xen PCI platform device for event channel notification would just lockup the guest during bootup. postcore_initcall now calls xs_reset_watches which will eventually try to read a value from XenStore and will get stuck on read_reply at XenBus forever since the platform driver is not probed yet and its INTx interrupt handler is not registered yet. That means that the guest can not be notified at this moment of any pending event channels and none of the per-event handlers will ever be invoked (including the XenStore one) and the reply will never be picked up by the kernel. The exact stack where things get stuck during xenbus_init: -xenbus_init -xs_init -xs_reset_watches -xenbus_scanf -xenbus_read -xs_single -xs_single -xs_talkv Vector callbacks have always been the favourite event notification mechanism since their introduction in commit 38e20b07efd5 ("x86/xen: event channels delivery on HVM.") and the vector callback feature has always been advertised for quite some time by Xen that's why INTx was broken for several years now without impacting anyone. Luckily this also means that event channel notification through INTx is basically dead-code which can be safely removed without impacting anybody since it has been effectively disabled for more than 4 years with nobody complaining about it (at least as far as I'm aware of). This commit removes event channel notification through Xen PCI platform device. 2016-08-04dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrsKrzysztof Kozlowski
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Semantic patches for this change (at least most of them): virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; @@ f(..., - struct dma_attrs *attrs + unsigned long attrs , ...) { ... } @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) and // Options: --all-includes virtual patch virtual context @r@ identifier f, attrs; type t; @@ t f(..., struct dma_attrs *attrs); @@ identifier r.f; @@ f(..., - NULL + 0 ) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1468399300-5399-2-git-send-email-k.kozlowski@samsung.com Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Kozlowski <k.kozlowski@samsung.com> Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> Acked-by: Mark Salter <msalter@redhat.com> [c6x] Acked-by: Jesper Nilsson <jesper.nilsson@axis.com> [cris] Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> [drm] Reviewed-by: Bart Van Assche <bart.vanassche@sandisk.com> Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Fabien Dessenne <fabien.dessenne@st.com> [bdisp] Reviewed-by: Marek Szyprowski <m.szyprowski@samsung.com> [vb2-core] Acked-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> [xen] Acked-by: Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk <konrad.wilk@oracle.com> [xen swiotlb] Acked-by: Joerg Roedel <jroedel@suse.de> [iommu] Acked-by: Richard Kuo <rkuo@codeaurora.org> [hexagon] Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> [m68k] Acked-by: Gerald Schaefer <gerald.schaefer@de.ibm.com> [s390] Acked-by: Bjorn Andersson <bjorn.andersson@linaro.org> Acked-by: Hans-Christian Noren Egtvedt <egtvedt@samfundet.no> [avr32] Acked-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com> [arc] Acked-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com> [arm64 and dma-iommu] Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2016-03-17x86/iopl/64: Properly context-switch IOPL on Xen PVAndy Lutomirski
On Xen PV, regs->flags doesn't reliably reflect IOPL and the exit-to-userspace code doesn't change IOPL. We need to context switch it manually. I'm doing this without going through paravirt because this is specific to Xen PV. After the dust settles, we can merge this with the 32-bit code, tidy up the iopl syscall implementation, and remove the set_iopl pvop entirely. Fixes XSA-171.
