2018-11-08ARM: cpuidle: Convert to use cpuidle_register|unregister()Ulf Hansson
The only reason that remains, to why the ARM cpuidle driver calls cpuidle_register_driver(), is to avoid printing an error message in case another driver already have been registered for the CPU. This seems a bit silly, but more importantly, if that is a common scenario, perhaps we should change cpuidle_register() accordingly instead. In either case, let's consolidate the code, by converting to use cpuidle_register|unregister(), which also avoids the unnecessary allocation of the struct cpuidle_device. 2018-11-08ARM: cpuidle: Don't register the driver when back-end init returns -ENXIOUlf Hansson
There's no point to register the cpuidle driver for the current CPU, when the initialization of the arch specific back-end data fails by returning -ENXIO. Instead, let's re-order the sequence to its original flow, by first trying to initialize the back-end part and then act accordingly on the returned error code. Additionally, let's print the error message, no matter of what error code that was returned. 2018-06-25ARM: cpuidle: silence error on driver registration failureSudeep Holla
It's perfectly fine to have multiple cpuidle driver compiled in the build configuration. However, it's not good to throw error on driver registration failure if some other driver is already initialised and assigned. In such cases, __cpuidle_register_driver returns -EBUSY and we can check for such error before throwing the error. 2017-10-14ARM: cpuidle: Refactor rollback operations if init failsLeo Yan
If init fails, we need execute two levels rollback operations: the first level is for the failed CPU rollback operations, the second level is to iterate all succeeded CPUs to cancel their registration; currently the code uses one function to finish these two levels rollback operations. This commit is to refactor rollback operations, so it adds a new function arm_idle_init_cpu() to encapsulate one specified CPU driver registration and rollback the first level operations; and use function arm_idle_init() to iterate all CPUs and finish the second level's rollback operations. 2017-10-14ARM: cpuidle: Correct driver unregistration if init failsLeo Yan
If cpuidle init fails, the code misses to unregister the driver for current CPU. Furthermore, we also need to rollback to cancel all previous CPUs registration; but the code retrieves driver handler by using function cpuidle_get_driver(), this function returns back current CPU driver handler but not previous CPU's handler, which leads to the failure handling code cannot unregister previous CPUs driver. This commit fixes two mentioned issues, it adds error handling path 'goto out_unregister_drv' for current CPU driver unregistration; and it is to replace cpuidle_get_driver() with cpuidle_get_cpu_driver(), the later function can retrieve driver handler for previous CPUs according to the CPU device handler so can unregister the driver properly. This patch also adds extra error handling paths 'goto out_kfree_dev' and 'goto out_kfree_drv' and adjusts the freeing sentences for previous CPUs; so make the code more readable for freeing 'dev' and 'drv' structures. 2017-06-24ARM: cpuidle: Support asymmetric idle definitionDaniel Lezcano
Some hardware have clusters with different idle states. The current code does not support this and fails as it expects all the idle states to be identical. Because of this, the Mediatek mtk8173 had to create the same idle state for a big.Little system and now the Hisilicon 960 is facing the same situation. Solve this by simply assuming the multiple driver will be needed for all the platforms using the ARM generic cpuidle driver which makes sense because of the different topologies we can support with a single kernel for ARM32 or ARM64. Every CPU has its own driver, so every single CPU can specify in the DT the idle states. This simple approach allows to support the future dynamIQ system, current SMP and HMP. 2016-07-21cpuidle: introduce CPU_PM_CPU_IDLE_ENTER macro for ARM{32, 64}Sudeep Holla
The function arm_enter_idle_state is exactly the same in both generic ARM{32,64} CPUIdle driver and will be the same even on ARM64 backend for ACPI processor idle driver. So we can unify it and move it to a common place by introducing CPU_PM_CPU_IDLE_ENTER macro that can be used in all places avoiding duplication. This is in preparation of reuse of the generic cpuidle entry function for ACPI LPI support on ARM64. Suggested-by: Rafael J. 2016-04-28ARM: cpuidle: Pass on arm_cpuidle_suspend()'s return valueJames Morse
arm_cpuidle_suspend() may return -EOPNOTSUPP, or any value returned by the cpu_ops/cpuidle_ops suspend call. arm_enter_idle_state() doesn't update 'ret' with this value, meaning we always signal success to cpuidle_enter_state(), causing it to update the usage counters as if we succeeded. 2015-03-24ARM: cpuidle: Register per cpuidle deviceDaniel Lezcano
If the cpuidle init cpu operation returns -ENXIO, therefore reporting HW failure or misconfiguration, the CPUidle driver skips the respective cpuidle device initialization because the associated platform back-end HW is not operational. That prevents the system to crash and allows to handle the error gracefully. For example, on Qcom's platform, each core has a SPM. The device associated with this SPM is initialized before the cpuidle framework. If there is an error in the initialization (eg. error in the DT), the system continues to boot but in degraded mode as some SPM may not be correctly initialized.
