2020-02-17Merge v5.6-rc2 into drm-misc-nextMaxime Ripard
Lyude needs some patches in 5.6-rc2 and we didn't bring drm-misc-next forward yet, so it looks like a good occasion. Signed-off-by: Maxime Ripard <maxime@cerno.tech>
2020-02-12drm/modes: Allow DRM_MODE_ROTATE_0 when applying video mode parametersStephan Gerhold
At the moment, only DRM_MODE_ROTATE_180 is allowed when we try to apply the rotation from the video mode parameters. It is also useful to allow DRM_MODE_ROTATE_0 in case there is only a reflect option in the video mode parameter (e.g. video=540x960,reflect_x). DRM_MODE_ROTATE_0 means "no rotation" and should therefore not require any special handling, so we can just add it to the if condition. 2020-02-11drm/client: Rename _force to _lockedDaniel Vetter
Plus extend the kerneldoc a bit to explain how this should be used. With the previous patch to drop the force restore the main user of this function is not emphasis on the "I hold the internal master lock already" aspect, so rename the function to match. 2019-12-29drm/fbdev: Fallback to non tiled mode if all tiles not presentManasi Navare
In case of tiled displays, if we hotplug just one connector, fbcon currently just selects the preferred mode and if it is tiled mode then that becomes a problem if rest of the tiles are not present. So in the fbdev driver on hotplug when we probe the client modeset, if we dont find all the connectors for all tiles, then on a connector with one tile, just fallback to the first available non tiled mode to display over a single connector. On the hotplug of the consecutive tiled connectors, if the tiled mode no longer exists because of fbcon size limitation, then return no modes for consecutive tiles but retain the non tiled mode on the 0th tile. Use the same logic in case of connected boot case as well. This has been tested with Dell UP328K tiled monitor. v3: * Check Num tiled conns that are connected (Manasi) v2: * Set the modes on consecutive hotplugged tiles to no mode if tiled mode is pruned (Dave) v1: * Just handle the 1st connector hotplug case * v1 Reviewed-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com> Bugzilla: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/issues/5 Suggested-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Suggested-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com> Cc: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Cc: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Manasi Navare <manasi.d.navare@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com> (v2) Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20191211212433.18185-2-manasi.d.navare@intel.com

2019-07-16drm/modes: Don't apply cmdline's rotation if it wasn't specifiedDmitry Osipenko

2019-07-10drm/modes: Skip invalid cmdline modeDmitry Osipenko
The named mode could be invalid and then cmdline parser misses to validate mode's dimensions, happily adding 0x0 mode as a valid mode. One case where this happens is NVIDIA Tegra devices that are using downstream bootloader which adds "video=tegrafb" to the kernel's cmdline and thus upstream Tegra DRM driver fails to probe because of the invalid mode. 2019-06-19drm/modes: Allow to specify rotation and reflection on the commandlineMaxime Ripard
Rotations and reflections setup are needed in some scenarios to initialise properly the initial framebuffer. Some drivers already had a bunch of quirks to deal with this, such as either a private kernel command line parameter (omapdss) or on the device tree (various panels). In order to accomodate this, let's create a video mode parameter to deal with the rotation and reflexion. 2019-06-19drm/modes: Support modes names on the command lineMaxime Ripard
The drm subsystem also uses the video= kernel parameter, and in the documentation refers to the fbdev documentation for that parameter. However, that documentation also says that instead of giving the mode using its resolution we can also give a name. However, DRM doesn't handle that case at the moment. Even though in most case it shouldn't make any difference, it might be useful for analog modes, where different standards might have the same resolution, but still have a few different parameters that are not encoded in the modes (NTSC vs NTSC-J vs PAL-M for example). 2019-06-19drm/client: Change drm_client_panel_rotation nameMaxime Ripard
The drm_client_panel_rotation function has been used so far to set the default rotation based on the panel orientation. However, we can have more sources of information to make that decision, starting with the command line that we will introduce later in this series. Change the name to remove the panel mention. 2019-06-19drm/client: Restrict the rotation check to the rotation itselfMaxime Ripard
The drm_client_rotation has a check on the rotation value, but the reflections are also stored in the same variable, and the check doesn't take this into account. Therefore, even though we might have a valid rotation, if we're also using a reflection parameter, the test will fail for no particular reason. 2019-06-19drm/client: Restrict the plane_state scopeMaxime Ripard
The drm_client_modeset_commit_atomic function uses two times the plane_state variable in inner blocks of code, but the variable has a scope global to this function. This will lead to inadvertent devs to reuse the variable in the second block with the value left by the first, without any warning from the compiler since value would have been initialized. Fix this by moving the variable declaration to the proper scope. 2019-06-04drm/fb-helper: Remove drm_fb_helper_crtcNoralf Trønnes
struct drm_fb_helper_crtc is now just a wrapper around drm_mode_set so use that directly instead and attach it as a modeset array onto drm_client_dev. drm_fb_helper will use this array to store its modesets which means it will always initialize a drm_client, but it will not register the client (callbacks) unless it's the generic fbdev emulation. Code will later be moved to drm_client, so add code there in a new file drm_client_modeset.c with MIT license to match drm_fb_helper.c. The modeset connector array size is hardcoded for the cloned case to avoid having to pass in a value from the driver. A value of 8 is chosen to err on the safe side. This means that the max connector argument for drm_fb_helper_init() and drm_fb_helper_fbdev_setup() isn't used anymore, a todo entry for this is added. In pan_display_atomic() restore_fbdev_mode_force() is used instead of restore_fbdev_mode_atomic() because that one will later become internal to drm_client_modeset.
