We need to enable the use of SLPC Compute strategy during init, but it will apply only to contexts that set this bit during context creation. Userland can check whether this feature is supported using a new param- I915_PARAM_HAS_CONTEXT_FREQ_HINT. This flag is true for all guc submission enabled platforms as they use SLPC for frequency management. While generating the list of UABI engines to be exposed to the user, exclude any additional CCS engines beyond the first instance *** NOTE: This W/A will make all DG2 SKUs appear like single CCS SKUs by default to mitigate a hardware bug. All the EUs will still remain usable, and all the userspace drivers have been confirmed to be able to dynamically detect the change in number of CCS engines and adjust. For the smaller percent of applications that get perf benefit from letting the userspace driver dispatch across all 4 CCS engines we will be introducing a sysfs control as a later patch to choose 4 CCS each with 25% EUs (or 50% if 2 CCS). 2023-08-15drm/i915/pxp: Optimize GET_PARAM:PXP_STATUSAlan Previn
After recent discussions with Mesa folks, it was requested that we optimize i915's GET_PARAM for the PXP_STATUS without changing the UAPI spec. Add these additional optimizations: - If any PXP initializatoin flow failed, then ensure that we catch it so that we can change the returned PXP_STATUS from "2" (i.e. 'PXP is supported but not yet ready') to "-ENODEV". This typically should not happen and if it does, we have a platform configuration issue. - If a PXP arbitration session creation event failed due to incorrect firmware version or blocking SOC fusing or blocking BIOS configuration (platform reasons that won't change if we retry), then reflect that blockage by also returning -ENODEV in the GET_PARAM:PXP_STATUS. - GET_PARAM:PXP_STATUS should not wait at all if PXP is supported but non-i915 dependencies (component-driver / firmware) we are still pending to complete the init flows. In this case, just return "2" immediately (i.e. 'PXP is supported but not yet ready'). 2023-05-11drm/i915/uapi/pxp: Add a GET_PARAM for PXPAlan Previn
Because of the additional firmware, component-driver and initialization depedencies required on MTL platform before a PXP context can be created, UMD calling for PXP creation as a way to get-caps can take a long time. An actual real world customer stack has seen this happen in the 4-to-8 second range after the kernel starts (which sees MESA's init appear in the middle of this range as the compositor comes up). To avoid unncessary delays experienced by the UMD for get-caps purposes, add a GET_PARAM for I915_PARAM_PXP_SUPPORT. However, some failures can still occur after all the depedencies are met (such as firmware init flow failure, bios configurations or SOC fusing not allowing PXP enablement). Those scenarios will only be known to user space when it attempts creating a PXP context and is documented in the GEM UAPI headers. While making this change, create a helper that is common to both GET_PARAM caller and intel_pxp_start since the latter does similar checks. OA reports in the OA buffer contain an OA timestamp field that helps user calculate delta between 2 OA reports. The calculation relies on the CS timestamp frequency to convert the timestamp value to nanoseconds. The CS timestamp frequency is a function of the CTC_SHIFT value in RPM_CONFIG0. In DG2, OA unit assumes that the CTC_SHIFT is 3, instead of using the actual value from RPM_CONFIG0. At the user level, this results in an error in calculating delta between 2 OA reports since the OA timestamp is not shifted in the same manner as CS timestamp. Also the periodicity of the reports is different from what the user configured because of mismatch in the CS and OA frequencies. The issue also affects MI_REPORT_PERF_COUNT command. To resolve this, return actual OA timestamp frequency to the user in i915_getparam_ioctl, so that user can calculate the right OA exponent as well as interpret the reports correctly. 2022-06-02drm/i915/sseu: Disassociate internal subslice mask representation from uapiMatt Roper
As with EU masks, it's easier to store subslice/DSS masks internally in a format that's more natural for the driver to work with, and then only covert into the u8[] uapi form when the query ioctl is invoked. Since the hardware design changed significantly with Xe_HP, we'll use a union to choose between the old "hsw-style" subslice masks or the newer xehp mask. HSW-style masks will be stored in an array of u8's, indexed by slice (there's never more than 6 subslices per slice on older platforms). For Xe_HP and beyond where slices no longer exist, we only need a single bitmask. However we already know that this mask is eventually going to grow too large for a simple u64 to hold, so we'll represent it in a manner that can be operated on by the utilities in linux/bitmap.h. v2: - Fix typo: BIT(s) -> BIT(ss) in gen9_sseu_device_status() v3: - Eliminate sseu->ss_stride and just calculate the stride while specifically handling uapi. 2022-06-02drm/i915/xehp: Drop GETPARAM lookups of I915_PARAM_[SUB]SLICE_MASKMatt Roper
Slice/subslice/EU information should be obtained via the topology queries provided by the I915_QUERY interface; let's turn off support for the old GETPARAM lookups on Xe_HP and beyond where we can't return meaningful values. The slice mask lookup is meaningless since Xe_HP doesn't support traditional slices (and we make no attempt to return the various new units like gslices, cslices, mslices, etc.) here. The subslice mask lookup is even more problematic; given the distinct masks for geometry vs compute purposes, the combined mask returned here is likely not what userspace would want to act upon anyway. The value is also limited to 32-bits by the nature of the GETPARAM ioctl which is sufficient for the initial Xe_HP platforms, but is unable to convey the larger masks that will be needed on other upcoming platforms. Finally, the value returned here becomes even less meaningful when used on multi-tile platforms where each tile will have its own masks. 2021-08-05drm/i915/userptr: Probe existence of backing struct pages upon creationChris Wilson
Jason Ekstrand requested a more efficient method than userptr+set-domain to determine if the userptr object was backed by a complete set of pages upon creation. To be more efficient than simply populating the userptr using get_user_pages() (as done by the call to set-domain or execbuf), we can walk the tree of vm_area_struct and check for gaps or vma not backed by struct page (VM_PFNMAP). The question is how to handle VM_MIXEDMAP which may be either struct page or pfn backed... With discrete we are going to drop support for set_domain(), so offering a way to probe the pages, without having to resort to dummy batches has been requested. v2: - add new query param for the PROBE flag, so userspace can easily check if the kernel supports it(Jason). - use mmap_read_{lock, unlock}. - add some kernel-doc. v3: - In the docs also mention that PROBE doesn't guarantee that the pages will remain valid by the time they are actually used(Tvrtko). - Add a small comment for the hole finding logic(Jason). - Move the param next to all the other params which just return true. Xe_HP no longer has "slices" in the same way that old platforms did. There are new concepts (gslices, cslices, mslices) that apply in various contexts, but for the purposes of fusing slices no longer exist and we just have one large pool of dual-subslices (DSS) to work with. Furthermore, the meaning of the DSS fuse is inverted compared to past platforms --- it now specifies which DSS are enabled rather than which ones are disabled. 2020-06-22drm/i915/params: switch to device specific parametersJani Nikula
Start using device specific parameters instead of module parameters for most things. The module parameters become the immutable initial values for i915 parameters. The device specific parameters in i915->params start life as a copy of i915_modparams. Any later changes are only reflected in the debugfs. The stragglers are: * i915.force_probe and i915.modeset. Needed before dev_priv is available. This is fine because the parameters are read-only and never modified. * i915.verbose_state_checks. Passing dev_priv to I915_STATE_WARN and I915_STATE_WARN_ON would result in massive and ugly churn. This is handled by not exposing the parameter via debugfs, and leaving the parameter writable in sysfs. This may be fixed up in follow-up work. * i915.inject_probe_failure. Only makes sense in terms of the module, not the device. 2019-12-04drm/i915: Introduce DRM_I915_GEM_MMAP_OFFSETAbdiel Janulgue
This is really just an alias of mmap_gtt. The 'mmap offset' nomenclature comes from the value returned by this ioctl which is the offset into the device fd which userpace uses with mmap(2). mmap_gtt was our initial mmap_offset implementation, this extends our CPU mmap support to allow additional fault handlers that depends on the object's backing pages. Note that we multiplex mmap_gtt and mmap_offset through the same ioctl, and use the zero extending behaviour of drm to differentiate between them, when we inspect the flags. To support multiple mmap types on an object we need to support multiple mmap_offsets for an object (each offset in the global device address space corresponding to a unique instance of the object for a file + mmap type). As we drop the simplified drm core idea of a single mmap_offset, we need to provide replacement hooks for the dumb mmap interface as well. 2019-11-05drm/i915: Disable Secure Batches for gen6+Jon Bloomfield
Retroactively stop reporting support for secure batches through the api for gen6+ so that older binaries trigger the fallback path instead. Older binaries use secure batches pre gen6 to access resources that are not available to normal usermode processes. However, all known userspace explicitly checks for HAS_SECURE_BATCHES before relying on the secure batch feature.
