2019-08-09drm/i915: split out uncore_mmio_debugDaniele Ceraolo Spurio
Multiple uncore structures will share the debug infrastructure, so move it to a common place and add extra locking around it. Also, since we now have a separate object, it is cleaner to have dedicated functions working on the object to stop and restart the mmio debug. Apart from the cosmetic changes, this patch introduces 2 functional updates: - All calls to check_for_unclaimed_mmio will now return false when the debug is suspended, not just the ones that are active only when i915_modparams.mmio_debug is set. If we don't trust the result of the check while a user is doing mmio access then we shouldn't attempt the check anywhere. - i915_modparams.mmio_debug is not save/restored anymore around user access. 2019-07-31drm/i915/uc: Move uC WOPCM setup in uc_init_hwDaniele Ceraolo Spurio
The register we write are not WOPCM regs but uC ones related to how GuC and HuC are going to use the WOPCM, so it makes logical sense for them to be programmed as part of uc_init_hw. 2019-03-29drm/i915: move the edram detection out of uncore initDaniele Ceraolo Spurio
edram is not part of uncore and there is no requirement for the detection to be done before we initialize the uncore functions. The first check on HAS_EDRAM is in the ggtt_init path, so move it to i915_driver_init_hw, where other dram-related detection happens. While at it, save the size in MB instead of the capabilities because the size is the only thing we look at outside of the init function. We have several cases where we don't have forcewake (older gens, GVT and planned display-only uncore), so, instead of checking every time against the various condition, save the info in a flag and use that. 2018-08-09drm/i915: Restore user forcewake domains across suspendChris Wilson
On suspend, we cancel the automatic forcewake and clear all other sources of forcewake so the machine can sleep before we do suspend. However, we expose the forcewake to userspace (only via debugfs, but nevertheless we do) and want to restore that upon resume or else our accounting will be off and we may not acquire the forcewake before we use it. In Gen11, the Video Decode engines (aka VDBOX, aka VCS, aka BSD) and the Video Enhancement engines (aka VEBOX, aka VECS) could be fused off. Also, each VDBOX and VEBOX has its own power well, which only exist if the related engine exists in the HW. Unfortunately, we have a Catch-22 situation going on: we need the blitter forcewake to read the register with the fuse info, but we cannot initialize the forcewake domains without knowin about the engines present in the HW. We workaround this problem by allowing the initialization of all forcewake domains and then pruning the fused off ones, as per the fuse information. The main difference with previous GENs is that starting from Gen11 each VCS and VECS engine has its own power well, which only exist if the related engine exists in the HW. 2017-10-09drm/i915: Provide an assert for when we expect forcewake to be heldChris Wilson
Add assert_forcewakes_active() (the complementary function to assert_forcewakes_inactive) that documents the requirement of a function for its callers to be holding the forcewake ref (i.e. the function is part of a sequence over which RC6 must be prevented). One such example is during ringbuffer reset, where RC6 must be held across the whole reinitialisation sequence. v2: Include debug information in the WARN so we know which fw domain is missing. If the user bypasses i915 and accesses mmio directly, that easily confuses our automatic mmio debugging (any error we then detect is likely to be as a result of the user). 2017-05-26drm/i915: Keep the forcewake timer alive for 1ms past the most recent useChris Wilson
Currently the timer is armed for 1ms after the first use and is killed immediately, dropping the forcewake as early as possible. However, for very frequent operations the forcewake dance has a large impact on latency and keeping the timer alive until we are idle is preferred. To achieve this, if we call intel_uncore_forcewake_get whilst the timer is alive (repeated use), then set a flag to restart the timer on expiry rather than drop the forcewake usage count. The timer is racy, the consequence of the race is to expire the timer earlier than is now desired but does not impact on correct behaviour. The offset the race slightly, we set the active flag again on intel_uncore_forcewake_put. The effect should be to reduce the jitter of reacquiring the fw every 1ms on a busy system. However, the cost is to keep the timer alive for an extra 1ms on a nearly idle system. We chose to incur the jitter previously to keep the timer off for as much as possible.
