2022-12-16drm/imx: move IPUv3 driver into separate subdirectoryLucas Stach
The IPUv3 and DCSS driver are two totally separate DRM drivers. Having one of them live in the drivers/gpu/drm/imx toplevel directory and the other one in the dcss/ subdirectory is confusing. Move the IPUv3 driver into its own subdirectory to make the separation more clear. Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`. 2022-01-27drm/imx: Add support for the nomodeset kernel parameterJavier Martinez Canillas
According to disable Documentation/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.txt, this parameter can be used to disable kernel modesetting. DRM drivers will not perform display-mode changes or accelerated rendering and only the system framebuffer will be available if it was set-up. But only a few DRM drivers currently check for nomodeset, make this driver to also support the command line parameter. 2021-05-10drm/imx: Add 8 pixel alignment fixSebastian Reichel
Some standard resolutions like 1366x768 do not work properly with i.MX6 SoCs, since the horizontal resolution needs to be aligned to 8 pixels (so 1360x768 or 1368x768 would work). This patch allocates framebuffers allocated to 8 pixels. The extra time required to send the extra pixels are removed from the blank time. In order to expose the correct display size to userspace, the stride is increased without increasing the width. Without this patch systems with this display resolution hang indefinitely during boot up. And a nice comment explaining why the wait_for_flip_done is ahead, unlike the usual sequence. Only the following drivers aren't converted: - amdgpu, because of the driver_feature mangling due to virt support. Subsequent patch will address this. - nouveau, because DRIVER_ATOMIC uapi is still not the default on the platforms where it's supported (i.e. again driver_feature mangling) - vc4, again because of driver_feature mangling - qxl, because the ioctl table is somewhere else and moving that is maybe a bit too much, hence the num_ioctls assignment prevents a const driver structure. - arcpgu, because that is stuck behind a pending tiny-fication series from me. - legacy drivers, because legacy requires non-const drm_driver. Note that for armada I also went ahead and made the ioctl array const. 2020-07-20drm/imx: fix use after freePhilipp Zabel
Component driver structures allocated with devm_kmalloc() in bind() are freed automatically after unbind(). Since the contained drm structures are accessed afterwards in drm_mode_config_cleanup(), move the allocation into probe() to extend the driver structure's lifetime to the lifetime of the device. This should eventually be changed to use drm resource managed allocations with lifetime of the drm device. We also need to ensure that all componets are available during the unbind() so we need to call component_unbind_all() before we free non-devres resources like planes. Note this patch fixes the the use after free bug but introduces a possible boot loop issue. The issue is triggered if the HDMI support is enabled and a component driver always return -EPROBE_DEFER, see discussion [1] for more details. Add a zpos property to planes. Call drm_atomic_helper_check() instead of calling drm_atomic_helper_check_modeset() and drm_atomic_check_planes() manually. This effectively adds a call to drm_atomic_normalize_zpos() before checking planes. Reorder atomic update to allow changing plane zpos without modeset. Note that the initial zpos is set in ipu_plane_state_reset(). The initial value set in ipu_plane_init() is just for show. The zpos parameter of drm_plane_create_zpos_property() is ignored because the newly created plane do not have state yet. Convert string compares of DT node names to use of_node_name_eq helper instead. This removes direct access to the node name pointer. For instances using of_node_cmp, this has the side effect of now using case sensitive comparisons. This should not matter for any FDT based system which this is. Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. The CMA helper is already using the drm_fb_helper_generic_probe part of the generic fbdev emulation. This patch makes full use of the generic fbdev emulation by using its drm_client callbacks. This means that drm_mode_config_funcs->output_poll_changed and drm_driver->lastclose are now handled by the emulation code. Additionally fbdev unregister happens automatically on drm_dev_unregister(). The drm_fbdev_generic_setup() call is put after drm_dev_register() in the driver. This is done to highlight the fact that fbdev emulation is an internal client that makes use of the driver, it is not part of the driver as such. If fbdev setup fails, an error is printed, but the driver succeeds probing. CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION wasn't honoured by the CMA helper, but it is by drm_fb_helper. drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_vblanks will go away in the future. The new drm_atomic_helper_setup_commit in 4.15 expects that blocking commits have completed flipping before the commit_tail returns. This must be ensured by calling wait_for_vblanks or wait_for_flip_done, where flip_done might do a less agressive wait, which is fine for imx-drm. While it is possible to hook other CRTC implementations into imx-drm in practice there are none yet and the option to disable ipuv3-crtc support has been hidden for a long time. Now that the imx-drm-core has learned to deal with some of the specifics of IPUv3 there is a cyclic dependency between both parts. To get rid of this and to decimate the Kconfig maze a bit, simply merge both parts into one module. Allow the planes to use the PRG/PRE units as linear prefetchers when possible. This improves DRAM efficiency a bit and reduces the chance for display underflow when the memory subsystem is under load. This does not yet support scanning out tiled buffers directly, as this needs more work, but it already wires up the basic interaction between imx-drm, the IPUv3 driver and the PRG and PRE drivers.
