git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton: - Daniel Verkamp has contributed a memfd series ("mm/memfd: add F_SEAL_EXEC") which permits the setting of the memfd execute bit at memfd creation time, with the option of sealing the state of the X bit. - Peter Xu adds a patch series ("mm/hugetlb: Make huge_pte_offset() thread-safe for pmd unshare") which addresses a rare race condition related to PMD unsharing. - Several folioification patch serieses from Matthew Wilcox, Vishal Moola, Sidhartha Kumar and Lorenzo Stoakes - Johannes Weiner has a series ("mm: push down lock_page_memcg()") which does perform some memcg maintenance and cleanup work. - SeongJae Park has added DAMOS filtering to DAMON, with the series "mm/damon/core: implement damos filter". These filters provide users with finer-grained control over DAMOS's actions. SeongJae has also done some DAMON cleanup work. - Kairui Song adds a series ("Clean up and fixes for swap"). - Vernon Yang contributed the series "Clean up and refinement for maple tree". - Yu Zhao has contributed the "mm: multi-gen LRU: memcg LRU" series. It adds to MGLRU an LRU of memcgs, to improve the scalability of global reclaim. - David Hildenbrand has added some userfaultfd cleanup work in the series "mm: uffd-wp + change_protection() cleanups". - Christoph Hellwig has removed the generic_writepages() library function in the series "remove generic_writepages". - Baolin Wang has performed some maintenance on the compaction code in his series "Some small improvements for compaction". - Sidhartha Kumar is doing some maintenance work on struct page in his series "Get rid of tail page fields". - David Hildenbrand contributed some cleanup, bugfixing and generalization of pte management and of pte debugging in his series "mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE on all architectures with swap PTEs". - Mel Gorman and Neil Brown have removed the __GFP_ATOMIC allocation flag in the series "Discard __GFP_ATOMIC". - Sergey Senozhatsky has improved zsmalloc's memory utilization with his series "zsmalloc: make zspage chain size configurable". - Joey Gouly has added prctl() support for prohibiting the creation of writeable+executable mappings. The previous BPF-based approach had shortcomings. See "mm: In-kernel support for memory-deny-write-execute (MDWE)". - Waiman Long did some kmemleak cleanup and bugfixing in the series "mm/kmemleak: Simplify kmemleak_cond_resched() & fix UAF". - T.J. Alumbaugh has contributed some MGLRU cleanup work in his series "mm: multi-gen LRU: improve". - Jiaqi Yan has provided some enhancements to our memory error statistics reporting, mainly by presenting the statistics on a per-node basis. See the series "Introduce per NUMA node memory error statistics". - Mel Gorman has a second and hopefully final shot at fixing a CPU-hog regression in compaction via his series "Fix excessive CPU usage during compaction". - Christoph Hellwig does some vmalloc maintenance work in the series "cleanup vfree and vunmap". - Christoph Hellwig has removed block_device_operations.rw_page() in ths series "remove ->rw_page". - We get some maple_tree improvements and cleanups in Liam Howlett's series "VMA tree type safety and remove __vma_adjust()". - Suren Baghdasaryan has done some work on the maintainability of our vm_flags handling in the series "introduce vm_flags modifier functions". - Some pagemap cleanup and generalization work in Mike Rapoport's series "mm, arch: add generic implementation of pfn_valid() for FLATMEM" and "fixups for generic implementation of pfn_valid()" - Baoquan He has done some work to make /proc/vmallocinfo and /proc/kcore better represent the real state of things in his series "mm/vmalloc.c: allow vread() to read out vm_map_ram areas". - Jason Gunthorpe rationalized the GUP system's interface to the rest of the kernel in the series "Simplify the external interface for GUP". - SeongJae Park wishes to migrate people from DAMON's debugfs interface over to its sysfs interface. To support this, we'll temporarily be printing warnings when people use the debugfs interface. See the series "mm/damon: deprecate DAMON debugfs interface". - Andrey Konovalov provided the accurately named "lib/stackdepot: fixes and clean-ups" series. - Huang Ying has provided a dramatic reduction in migration's TLB flush IPI rates with the series "migrate_pages(): batch TLB flushing". - Arnd Bergmann has some objtool fixups in "objtool warning fixes". * tag 'mm-stable-2023-02-20-13-37' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm: (505 commits) include/linux/migrate.h: remove unneeded externs mm/memory_hotplug: cleanup return value handing in do_migrate_range() mm/uffd: fix comment in handling pte markers mm: change to return bool for isolate_movable_page() mm: hugetlb: change to return bool for isolate_hugetlb() mm: change to return bool for isolate_lru_page() mm: change to return bool for folio_isolate_lru() objtool: add UACCESS exceptions for __tsan_volatile_read/write kmsan: disable ftrace in kmsan core code kasan: mark addr_has_metadata __always_inline mm: memcontrol: rename memcg_kmem_enabled() sh: initialize max_mapnr m68k/nommu: add missing definition of ARCH_PFN_OFFSET mm: percpu: fix incorrect size in pcpu_obj_full_size() maple_tree: reduce stack usage with gcc-9 and earlier mm: page_alloc: call panic() when memoryless node allocation fails mm: multi-gen LRU: avoid futile retries migrate_pages: move THP/hugetlb migration support check to simplify code migrate_pages: batch flushing TLB migrate_pages: share more code between _unmap and _move ...

2023-01-27drm/mediatek: Clean dangling pointer on bind error pathNícolas F. R. A. Prado
mtk_drm_bind() can fail, in which case drm_dev_put() is called, destroying the drm_device object. However a pointer to it was still being held in the private object, and that pointer would be passed along to DRM in mtk_drm_sys_prepare() if a suspend were triggered at that point, resulting in a panic. Clean the pointer when destroying the object in the error path to prevent this from happening. Fixes: 119f5173628a ("drm/mediatek: Add DRM Driver for Mediatek SoC MT8173.") Signed-off-by: Nícolas F. 2023-01-27drm/mediatek: dsi: Reduce the time of dsi from LP11 to sending cmdXinlei Lee
According to Figure 16 Turnaround Procedure on page 36 in [1], you can see the status of LP-00 -> LP10 -> LP11. This state can correspond to the state of DSI from LP00 -> LP11 in mtk_dsi_lane_ready function in mtk_dsi.c. LP-00 -> LP10 -> LP11 takes about 2*TLPX time (refer to [1] page 51 to see that TLPX is 50ns) The delay at the end of the mtk_dsi_lane_ready function should be greater than the 2*TLPX specified by the DSI spec, and less than the time specified by the DSI_RX (generally 6ms to 40ms), to avoid problems caused by the RX specification [1]:mipi_D-PHY_specification_v1-1 Fixes: 39e8d062b03c ("drm/mediatek: Keep dsi as LP00 before dcs cmds transfer") Signed-off-by: Xinlei Lee <xinlei.lee@mediatek.com> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Reviewed-by: AngeloGioacchino Del Regno <angelogioacchino.delregno@collabora.com> Link: https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-mediatek/patch/1673330093-6771-2-git-send-email-xinlei.lee@mediatek.com/ Signed-off-by: Chun-Kuang Hu <chunkuang.hu@kernel.org>

2022-11-14drm/mediatek: Fix return type of mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid()Nathan Chancellor
With clang's kernel control flow integrity (kCFI, CONFIG_CFI_CLANG), indirect call targets are validated against the expected function pointer prototype to make sure the call target is valid to help mitigate ROP attacks. If they are not identical, there is a failure at run time, which manifests as either a kernel panic or thread getting killed. A proposed warning in clang aims to catch these at compile time, which reveals: drivers/gpu/drm/mediatek/mtk_hdmi.c:1407:16: error: incompatible function pointer types initializing 'enum drm_mode_status (*)(struct drm_bridge *, const struct drm_display_info *, const struct drm_display_mode *)' with an expression of type 'int (struct drm_bridge *, const struct drm_display_info *, const struct drm_display_mode *)' [-Werror,-Wincompatible-function-pointer-types-strict] .mode_valid = mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid, ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 error generated. ->mode_valid() in 'struct drm_bridge_funcs' expects a return type of 'enum drm_mode_status', not 'int'. Adjust the return type of mtk_hdmi_bridge_mode_valid() to match the prototype's to resolve the warning and CFI failure. 2022-09-22drm/mediatek: dsi: Move mtk_dsi_stop() call back to mtk_dsi_poweroff()Nícolas F. R. A. Prado
As the comment right before the mtk_dsi_stop() call advises, mtk_dsi_stop() should only be called after mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable(). That's because that function calls drm_crtc_wait_one_vblank(), which requires the vblank irq to be enabled. Previously mtk_dsi_stop(), being in mtk_dsi_poweroff() and guarded by a refcount, would only be called at the end of mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable(), through the call to mtk_crtc_ddp_hw_fini(). Commit cde7e2e35c28 ("drm/mediatek: Separate poweron/poweroff from enable/disable and define new funcs") moved the mtk_dsi_stop() call to mtk_output_dsi_disable(), causing it to be called before mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable(), and consequently generating vblank timeout warnings during suspend. Move the mtk_dsi_stop() call back to mtk_dsi_poweroff() so that we have a working vblank irq during mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable() and stop getting vblank timeout warnings. 2022-09-04drm/mediatek: dp: Add hpd debounceJitao Shi
From the DP spec 1.4a chapter 3.3, upstream devices should implement HPD signal de-bouncing on an external connection. A period of 100ms should be used to detect an HPD connect event. To cover these cases, HPD de-bounce should be implemented only after HPD low has been detected for at least 100ms. Therefore, 1. If HPD is low (which means plugging out) for longer than 100ms: we need to do de-bouncing (which means we need to wait for 100ms). 2. If HPD low is for less than 100ms: we don't need to care about the de-bouncing. In this patch, we start a 100ms timer and use a need_debounce boolean to implement the feature. Two cases when HPD is high: 1. If the timer is expired (>100ms): - need_debounce is true. - When HPD high (plugging event comes), need_debounce will be true and then we need to do de-bouncing (wait for 100ms). 2. If the timer is not expired (<100ms): - need_debounce is false. - When HPD high (plugging event comes), need_debounce will be false and no need to do de-bouncing. HPD_______ __________________ | |<- 100ms -> |____________| <- 100ms -> Without HPD de-bouncing, USB-C to HDMI Adapaters will not be detected. The change has been successfully tested with the following devices: - Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI - Acer 1in1 HDMI dongle - Ugreen 1in1 HDMI dongle - innowatt HDMI + USB3 hub - Acer 2in1 HDMI dongle - Apple 3in1 HDMI dongle (A2119) - J5Create 3in1 HDMI dongle (JAC379) Tested-by: Rex-BC Chen <rex-bc.chen@mediatek.com> Reviewed-by: Rex-BC Chen <rex-bc.chen@mediatek.com> Signed-off-by: Jitao Shi <jitao.shi@mediatek.com> Signed-off-by: Guillaume Ranquet <granquet@baylibre.com> Signed-off-by: Bo-Chen Chen <rex-bc.chen@mediatek.com> Reviewed-by: AngeloGioacchino Del Regno <angelogioacchino.delregno@collabora.com> Reviewed-by: CK Hu <ck.hu@mediatek.com> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Osipenko <dmitry.osipenko@collabora.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220901044149.16782-10-rex-bc.chen@mediatek.com

2022-09-04drm/mediatek: Add MT8195 Embedded DisplayPort driverMarkus Schneider-Pargmann
This patch adds a embedded displayport driver for the MediaTek mt8195 SoC. It supports the MT8195, the embedded DisplayPort units. It offers DisplayPort 1.4 with up to 4 lanes. The driver creates a child device for the phy. The child device will never exist without the parent being active. As they are sharing a register range, the parent passes a regmap pointer to the child so that both can work with the same register range. The phy driver sets device data that is read by the parent to get the phy device that can be used to control the phy properties. 2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. In order to do this renaming the following script was used: ``` #!/bin/bash DIRS="drivers/gpu include/drm Documentation/gpu" REGEX_SYM_UPPER="[0-9A-Z_\-]" REGEX_SYM_LOWER="[0-9a-z_\-]" REGEX_GREP_UPPER="(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)(GEM)_CMA_(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)" REGEX_GREP_LOWER="(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)(gem)_cma_(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)" REGEX_SED_UPPER="s/${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}/\1\2_DMA_\3/g" REGEX_SED_LOWER="s/${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}/\1\2_dma_\3/g" # Find all upper case 'CMA' symbols and replace them with 'DMA'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_UPPER" $ff done # Find all lower case 'cma' symbols and replace them with 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_LOWER" $ff done # Replace all occurrences of 'CMA' / 'cma' in comments and # documentation files with 'DMA' / 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl " cma " $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/ cma / dma /g" $ff sed -i -E "s/ CMA / DMA /g" $ff done # Rename all 'cma_obj's to 'dma_obj'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl "cma_obj" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/cma_obj/dma_obj/g" $ff done ``` Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files - select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS + select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and documentation which relate to "GEM CMA", but not "FB CMA". Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`. 2022-07-26drm: Remove unnecessary include statements of drm_plane_helper.hThomas Zimmermann
Remove the include statement for drm_plane_helper.h from all the files that don't need it. Althogh the header file is almost empty, many drivers include it somewhere. 2022-07-26drm/atomic-helper: Remove _HELPER_ infix from DRM_PLANE_HELPER_NO_SCALINGThomas Zimmermann
Rename DRM_PLANE_HELPER_NO_SCALING to DRM_PLANE_NO_SCALING. The constant is not really a helper, but rather a characteristic of the plane itself. 2022-07-26drm/atomic-helper: Move DRM_PLANE_HELPER_NO_SCALING to atomic helpersThomas Zimmermann
The macro DRM_PLANE_HELPER_NO_SCALING is only useful with the interfaces in drm_atomic_helper.h, but defined in drm_plane_helper.h. So half of DRM includes the latter header file for using this macro. Move the macro and remove the include statements.
