2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`. 2022-01-27drm/sti: Add support for the nomodeset kernel parameterJavier Martinez Canillas
According to disable Documentation/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.txt, this parameter can be used to disable kernel modesetting. DRM drivers will not perform display-mode changes or accelerated rendering and only the system framebuffer will be available if it was set-up. But only a few DRM drivers currently check for nomodeset, make this driver to also support the command line parameter. Only the following drivers aren't converted: - amdgpu, because of the driver_feature mangling due to virt support. Subsequent patch will address this. - nouveau, because DRIVER_ATOMIC uapi is still not the default on the platforms where it's supported (i.e. again driver_feature mangling) - vc4, again because of driver_feature mangling - qxl, because the ioctl table is somewhere else and moving that is maybe a bit too much, hence the num_ioctls assignment prevents a const driver structure. - arcpgu, because that is stuck behind a pending tiny-fication series from me. - legacy drivers, because legacy requires non-const drm_driver. Note that for armada I also went ahead and made the ioctl array const. Create GEM objects with drm_gem_cma_create_object_default_funcs(), which allocates the object and sets CMA's default object functions. Corresponding callbacks in struct drm_driver are cleared. No functional changes are made. Driver and object-function instances use the same callback functions, with the exception of vunmap. 2020-03-18drm: convert .debugfs_init() hook to return void.Wambui Karuga
As a result of commit 987d65d01356 (drm: debugfs: make drm_debugfs_create_files() never fail) and changes to various debugfs functions in drm/core and across various drivers, there is no need for the drm_driver.debugfs_init() hook to have a return value. Therefore, declare it as void. 2020-03-18drm/sti: remove use of drm_debugfs functions as return valuesWambui Karuga
Since commit 987d65d01356 (drm: debugfs: make drm_debugfs_create_files() never fail), drm_debugfs_create_files() never fails, and should return void. This change therefore removes it uses as a return value in various functions across drm/sti. With these changes, the affected functions have been changed to use a void return value. v2: convert sti_mixer_debugfs_init() and sti_compositor_debugfs_init() to return void too. Also have sti_drm_dbg_init() to return 0 to avoid build issues. Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. 2018-10-05drm/sti: Use drm_atomic_helper_shutdownDaniel Vetter
drm_plane_helper_disable is a non-atomic drivers only function, and will blow up (since no one passes the locking context it needs). Atomic drivers which want to quiescent their hw on unload should use drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() instead. The sti cleanup code seems supremely confused: - In the load error path it calls drm_mode_config_cleanup before it stops various kms services like poll worker or fbdev emulation. That's going to oops. - The actual unload code doesn't even bother with the cleanup and just leaks. Try to fix this while at it. 2018-09-25drm/sti: Use drm_fbdev_generic_setup()Noralf Trønnes
The CMA helper is already using the drm_fb_helper_generic_probe part of the generic fbdev emulation. This patch makes full use of the generic fbdev emulation by using its drm_client callbacks. This means that drm_mode_config_funcs->output_poll_changed and drm_driver->lastclose are now handled by the emulation code. Additionally fbdev unregister happens automatically on drm_dev_unregister(). If drm_fbdev_generic_setup() fails, an error is printed by the function. drm_fbdev_generic_setup() handles mode_config.num_connector being zero. In that case it retries fbdev setup on the next .output_poll_changed. Instead of re-implementing the drm_atomic_helper_check() locally with just adding drm_atomic_normalize_zpos() into it, set the drm_mode_config->normalize_zpos. We don't want all planes to be added to the state whenever a plane with fixed zpos gets enabled/disabled. This is true especially for eg. cursor planes on i915, as we want cursor updates to go through w/o throttling. Same holds for drivers that don't support zpos at all (i915 actually falls into this category right now since we've not yet added zpos support). Allow drivers more freedom by letting them deal with zpos themselves instead of doing it in drm_atomic_helper_check_planes() unconditionally. drm_atomic_state has a complicated single owner model that tracks the single reference from allocation through to destruction on another thread - or perhaps on a local error path. We can simplify this tracking by using reference counting (at a cost of a few more atomics).
