2025-02-03HID: intel-thc: fix CONFIG_HID dependencyArnd Bergmann
In drivers/hid/, most drivers depend on CONFIG_HID, while a couple of the drivers in subdirectories instead depend on CONFIG_HID_SUPPORT and use 'select HID'. With the newly added INTEL_THC_HID, this causes a build warning for a circular dependency: WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for HID Depends on [m]: HID_SUPPORT [=y] && INPUT [=m] Selected by [y]: - INTEL_THC_HID [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && X86_64 [=y] && PCI [=y] && ACPI [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for INPUT_FF_MEMLESS Depends on [m]: INPUT [=m] Selected by [y]: - HID_MICROSOFT [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] - GREENASIA_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_GREENASIA [=y] - HID_WIIMOTE [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && LEDS_CLASS [=y] - ZEROPLUS_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_ZEROPLUS [=y] Selected by [m]: - HID_ACRUX_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_ACRUX [=m] - HID_EMS_FF [=m] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] - HID_GOOGLE_STADIA_FF [=m] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] - PANTHERLORD_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_PANTHERLORD [=m] It's better to be consistent and always use 'depends on HID' for HID drivers. The notable exception here is USB_KBD/USB_MOUSE, which are alternative implementations that do not depend on the HID subsystem. Do this by extending the "if HID" section below, which means that a few of the duplicate "depends on HID" and "depends on INPUT" statements can be removed in the process. 2024-02-28HID: amd_sfh: Set the AMD SFH driver to depend on x86Basavaraj Natikar
Considering that amd_sfh exists only on AMD platforms, set the AMD SFH driver to depend on x86 to avoid build warnings or errors on other architectures, as shown below. drivers/hid/amd-sfh-hid/amd_sfh_pcie.c: In function 'amd_mp2_pci_probe': drivers/hid/amd-sfh-hid/amd_sfh_pcie.c:413:21: error: 'boot_cpu_data' undeclared (first use in this function); did you mean 'boot_cpu_hwid'? 413 | if (boot_cpu_data.x86 >= 0x1A) | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~ | boot_cpu_hwid Fixes: 6296562f30b1 ("HID: amd_sfh: Extend MP2 register access to SFH") Reported-by: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au> Closes: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20240228145648.41c493ec@canb.auug.org.au/ Signed-off-by: Basavaraj Natikar <Basavaraj.Natikar@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Jiri Kosina <jkosina@suse.com>

There is a mix of drivers using either 'depends on HID' or 'select HID', which causes both circular dependencies and missed dependencies for a 'select': WARNING: unment direct dependencies for HID Depends on [m]: HID_SUPPORT [=y] && INPUT [=m] Selected by [y]: - AMD_SFH_HID [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && (X86_64 || COMPILE_TEST [=y]) && PCI [=y] Selected by [m]: - I2C_HID_CORE [=m] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for INPUT_FF_MEMLESS Depends on [m]: INPUT [=m] Selected by [y]: - DRAGONRISE_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_DRAGONRISE [=y] - HID_MICROSOFT [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] - GREENASIA_FF [=y] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] && HID_GREENASIA [=y] Selected by [m]: - INPUT_ARIZONA_HAPTICS [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && MFD_ARIZONA [=y] && SND_SOC [=m] - INPUT_PM8XXX_VIBRATOR [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && (MFD_PM8XXX [=m] || MFD_SPMI_PMIC [=n]) - INPUT_MAX8997_HAPTIC [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && PWM [=y] && MFD_MAX8997 [=y] - INPUT_GPIO_VIBRA [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && (GPIOLIB [=y] || COMPILE_TEST [=y]) - INPUT_REGULATOR_HAPTIC [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && REGULATOR [=y] - INPUT_TWL6040_VIBRA [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && TWL6040_CORE [=y] - INPUT_PWM_VIBRA [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && PWM [=y] - INPUT_DRV260X_HAPTICS [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && INPUT [=m] && I2C [=y] && (GPIOLIB [=y] || COMPILE_TEST [=y]) - INPUT_DRV2665_HAPTICS [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && INPUT [=m] && I2C [=y] - INPUT_DRV2667_HAPTICS [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && INPUT [=m] && I2C [=y] - INPUT_SC27XX_VIBRA [=m] && INPUT [=m] && INPUT_MISC [=y] && (MFD_SC27XX_PMIC [=y] || COMPILE_TEST [=y]) - HID_MAYFLASH [=m] && HID_SUPPORT [=y] && HID [=y] Avoid this by changing all HID client drivers to use 'depends on HID'. For I2C_HID, this requires a larger rework of the Kconfig description, but it hopefully becomes easier to understand without the complex I2C_HID_CORE definition. 2022-11-15HID: Kconfig: split HID support and hid-core compilationBenjamin Tissoires
Currently, we step into drivers/hid/ based on the value of CONFIG_HID. However, that value is a tristate, meaning that it can be a module. As per the documentation, if we jump into the subdirectory by following an obj-m, we can not compile anything inside that subdirectory in vmlinux. It is considered as a bug. To make things more friendly to HID-BPF, split HID (the HID core parameter) from HID_SUPPORT (do we want any kind of HID support in the system?), and make this new config a boolean. 2020-10-22SFH: PCIe driver to add support of AMD sensor fusion hubSandeep Singh
AMD SFH (Sensor Fusion Hub) is a solution running on MP2 (which is ARM core connected to x86 for processing sensor data). AMD SFH uses HID over PCI bus to form the HID descriptors and talks to HID clients like the monitor-sensor/iio-proxy. MP2 which is exposed as a PCI device to the x86, uses mailboxes to talk to MP2 firmware to send/receive commands.
