2020-01-23hwmon: Driver for disk and solid state drives with temperature sensorsGuenter Roeck
Reading the temperature of ATA drives has been supported for years by userspace tools such as smarttools or hddtemp. The downside of such tools is that they need to run with super-user privilege, that the temperatures are not reported by standard tools such as 'sensors' or 'libsensors', and that drive temperatures are not available for use in the kernel's thermal subsystem. This driver solves this problem by adding support for reading the temperature of ATA drives from the kernel using the hwmon API and by adding a temperature zone for each drive. With this driver, the hard disk temperature can be read using the unprivileged 'sensors' application: $ sensors drivetemp-scsi-1-0 drivetemp-scsi-1-0 Adapter: SCSI adapter temp1: +23.0°C or directly from sysfs: $ grep . /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon9/{name,temp1_input} /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon9/name:drivetemp /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon9/temp1_input:23000 If the drive supports SCT transport and reports temperature limits, those are reported as well. drivetemp-scsi-0-0 Adapter: SCSI adapter temp1: +27.0°C (low = +0.0°C, high = +60.0°C) (crit low = -41.0°C, crit = +85.0°C) (lowest = +23.0°C, highest = +34.0°C) The driver attempts to use SCT Command Transport to read the drive temperature. If the SCT Command Transport feature set is not available, or if it does not report the drive temperature, drive temperatures may be readable through SMART attributes. 2019-09-03hwmon: w83795: Fan control option isn't that dangerousJean Delvare
I have been using SENSORS_W83795_FANCTRL for several years and never had any problem. When the driver was added, I had not tested that part of the driver yet so I wanted to be super cautious, but time has shown that it works just fine. In the long run I even believe that we should drop the option and enable the feature unconditionally. It doesn't do anything until the user explicitly starts twiddling with sysfs attributes anyway. This allows max6650 devices to be referenced in dts as a cooling device. The pwm value seems duplicated in cooling_dev_state but since pwm goes through rounding logic into data->dac, it is modified and messes with the thermal zone state algorithms. Lochnagar is an evaluation and development board for Cirrus Logic Smart CODEC and Amp devices. It allows the connection of most Cirrus Logic devices on mini-cards, as well as allowing connection of various application processor systems to provide a full evaluation platform. This driver adds support for the hardware monitoring features of the Lochnagar 2 to the hwmon API. Monitoring is provided for the board voltages, currents and temperature supported by the board controller chip. The Kconfig lexer supports special characters such as '.' and '/' in the parameter context. In my understanding, the reason is just to support bare file paths in the source statement. I do not see a good reason to complicate Kconfig for the room of ambiguity. The majority of code already surrounds file paths with double quotes, and it makes sense since file paths are constant string literals. Make it treewide consistent now. 2018-12-16hwmon: Add On-Chip Controller (OCC) hwmon driverEddie James
The OCC is a device embedded on a POWER processor that collects and aggregates sensor data from the processor and system. The OCC can provide the raw sensor data as well as perform thermal and power management on the system. This driver provides a hwmon interface to the OCC from a service processor (e.g. a BMC). The driver supports both POWER8 and POWER9 OCCs. Communications with the POWER8 OCC are established over standard I2C bus. The driver communicates with the POWER9 OCC through the FSI-based OCC driver, which handles the lower-level communication details. This patch lays out the structure of the OCC hwmon driver. There are two platform drivers, one each for P8 and P9 OCCs. These are probed through the I2C tree and the FSI-based OCC driver, respectively. The patch also defines the first common structures and methods between the two OCC versions. Currently there is no easy way to detect undervoltage conditions on a remote Raspberry Pi. This hwmon driver retrieves the state of the undervoltage sensor via mailbox interface. The handling based on Noralf's modifications to the downstream firmware driver. In case of an undervoltage condition only an entry is written to the kernel log. 2018-07-08hwmon: (mlxreg-fan) Add support for Mellanox FAN driverVadim Pasternak
Driver obtains PWM and tachometers registers location according to the system configuration and creates FAN/PWM hwmon objects and a cooling device. PWM and tachometers are controlled through the on-board programmable device, which exports its register map. This device could be attached to any bus type, for which register mapping is supported. Single instance is created with one PWM control, up to 12 tachometers and one cooling device. It could be as many instances as programmable device supports. Currently driver will be activated from the Mellanox platform driver: drivers/platform/x86/mlx-platform.c. For the future ARM based systems it could be activated from the ARM platform module. Updated version of the ltc2990 driver which supports all measurement modes (current, voltage, temperature) available in the chip. If devicetree is used, the mode must be specified with the property "lltc,meas-mode". The format and possible values of the property are described in the binding. If devicetree is not used, the mode of the chip will not be configured. Unless the chip is configured by another source, only the internal temperature and supply voltage will be measured. The SMN (System Management Network) on Family 17h AMD CPUs is also accessed from other drivers, specifically EDAC. Accessing it directly is racy. On top of that, accessing the SMN through root bridge 00:00 is wrong on multi-die CPUs and may result in reading the temperature from the wrong die. Use available API functions to fix the problem. For this to work, add dependency on AMD_NB. Also change the Raven Ridge PCI device ID to point to Data Fabric Function 3, since this ID is used by the API functions to find the CPU node. With CONFIG_THERMAL=m, a built-in aspeed pwm tacho driver causes a link error: drivers/hwmon/aspeed-pwm-tacho.o: In function `aspeed_pwm_tacho_probe': aspeed-pwm-tacho.c:(.text+0x7f0): undefined reference to `thermal_of_cooling_device_register' This adds a dependency similar to what other hwmon drivers use, ensuring that the aspeed driver cannot be built-in in this case but has to be a module. With THERMAL=n, we still allow building it. The ASPEED AST2400/2500 PWM controller supports 8 PWM output ports. The ASPEED AST2400/2500 Fan tach controller supports 16 tachometer inputs. The device driver matches on the device tree node. The configuration values are read from the device tree and written to the respective registers. The driver provides a sysfs entries through which the user can configure the duty-cycle value (ranging from 0 to 100 percent) and read the fan tach rpm value.
