2015-03-02[media] fixp-arith: replace sin/cos table by a better precision oneMauro Carvalho Chehab
The cos table used at fixp-arith.h has only 8 bits of precision. That causes problems if it is reused on other drivers. As some media drivers require a higher precision sin/cos implementation, replace the current implementation by one that will provide 32 bits precision. The values generated by the new implementation matches the 32 bit precision of glibc's sin for an angle measured in integer degrees. It also provides support for fractional angles via linear interpolation. On experimental calculus, when used a table with a 0.001 degree angle, the maximum error for sin is 0.000038, which is likely good enough for practical purposes. There are some logic there that seems to be specific to the usage inside ff-memless.c. Move those logic to there, as they're not needed elsewhere. 2012-07-07Input: ff-memless - fix a couple min_t() castsDan Carpenter
envelope->attack_level is a u16 type. We're trying to clamp it here so it's between 0 and 0x7fff. Unfortunately, the cast to __s16 turns all the values larger than 0x7fff into negative numbers and min_t() thinks they are less than 0x7fff. envelope_level is an int so now we've got negative values stored there. 2012-05-14[media] Input: move drivers/input/fixp-arith.h to include/linuxAntonio Ospite
Move drivers/input/fixp-arith.h to include/linux so that the functions defined there can be used by other subsystems, for instance some video devices ISPs can control the output HUE value by setting registers for sin(HUE) and cos(HUE). 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-12-24Input: ff-memless - another fix for signed to unsigned overflowDmitry Torokhov
The commit 9e68177ef93b2f34eee5a1e1707bceef4b9ba69c changed 'gain' from signed to unsigned to fix an issue with rumble effect calculation, however it introduced problems when calculating constant effects. Having 'gain' being unsigned int was an unfortunate choice since it dominates all implicit type conversions causing everything to be treated as unsigned int. Let's change it back to signed int and simply add proper casts to rumble effect calculations. 2009-11-10Input: fix locking in memoryless force-feedback devicesDmitry Torokhov
Now that input core acquires dev->event_lock spinlock and disables interrupts when propagating input events, using spin_lock_bh() in ff-memless driver is not allowed. Actually, the timer_lock itself is not needed anymore, we should simply use dev->event_lock as well. Also do a small cleanup in force-feedback core. 2009-05-07Input: ff-memless - fix signed to unsigned bit overflowJussi Kivilinna
When userspace sets effect->u.rumble.strong_magnitude to 0x8001 or larger, ml_combine_effects() would always return strong_magnitude 0xffff. Problem is that 'gain' is passed in as signed integer. Multiplying magnitude (__u16) with gain (int) causes magnitude read as signed and results negative value (with magnitude > 0x8000). This signed integer is then divided and value, still negative, converted to 32bit unsigned integer. Finally checking combine overflow min(new+old, 0xffff) gives out 0xffff. Fix is to simply change 'gain' to unsigned int. 2008-11-30input: replace spin_lock_bh with spin_lock_irqsave in ml_ff_playbackArjan van de Ven
ml_ff_playback() uses spin_(un)lock_bh. However this function is called with interrupts disabled from erase_effect() in drivers/input/ff-core.c:196. This is not permitted, and will result in a WARN_ON in the bottom half handling code. This patch changes this function to just use spin_lock_irqsave() instead, solving the problem and simplifying the locking logic. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files).
