2019-07-05powerpc/64: flush_inval_dcache_range() becomes flush_dcache_range()Christophe Leroy
On most arches having function flush_dcache_range(), including PPC32, this function does a writeback and invalidation of the cache bloc. On PPC64, flush_dcache_range() only does a writeback while flush_inval_dcache_range() does the invalidation in addition. In addition it looks like within arch/powerpc/, there are no PPC64 platforms using flush_dcache_range() This patch drops the existing 64 bits version of flush_dcache_range() and renames flush_inval_dcache_range() into flush_dcache_range(). 2018-10-31memblock: stop using implicit alignment to SMP_CACHE_BYTESMike Rapoport
When a memblock allocation APIs are called with align = 0, the alignment is implicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES. Implicit alignment is done deep in the memblock allocator and it can come as a surprise. Not that such an alignment would be wrong even when used incorrectly but it is better to be explicit for the sake of clarity and the prinicple of the least surprise. Replace all such uses of memblock APIs with the 'align' parameter explicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES and stop implicit alignment assignment in the memblock internal allocation functions. For the case when memblock APIs are used via helper functions, e.g. like iommu_arena_new_node() in Alpha, the helper functions were detected with Coccinelle's help and then manually examined and updated where appropriate. The direct memblock APIs users were updated using the semantic patch below: @@ expression size, min_addr, max_addr, nid; @@ ( | - memblock_alloc_try_nid_raw(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid_raw(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc_try_nid_nopanic(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc_try_nid(size, 0, min_addr, max_addr, nid) + memblock_alloc_try_nid(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr, max_addr, nid) | - memblock_alloc(size, 0) + memblock_alloc(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_raw(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_raw(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_from(size, 0, min_addr) + memblock_alloc_from(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr) | - memblock_alloc_nopanic(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_low(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_low(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_low_nopanic(size, 0) + memblock_alloc_low_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES) | - memblock_alloc_from_nopanic(size, 0, min_addr) + memblock_alloc_from_nopanic(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, min_addr) | - memblock_alloc_node(size, 0, nid) + memblock_alloc_node(size, SMP_CACHE_BYTES, nid) ) [mhocko@suse.com: changelog update] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style fixes] [rppt@linux.ibm.com: fix missed uses of implicit alignment] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20181016133656.GA10925@rapoport-lnx Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/1538687224-17535-1-git-send-email-rppt@linux.vnet.ibm.com Signed-off-by: Mike Rapoport <rppt@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Suggested-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@suse.com> Acked-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@mips.com> [MIPS] Acked-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> [powerpc] Acked-by: Michal Hocko <mhocko@suse.com> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net> Cc: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Cc: Guan Xuetao <gxt@pku.edu.cn> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@redhat.com> Cc: Matt Turner <mattst88@gmail.com> Cc: Michal Simek <monstr@monstr.eu> Cc: Richard Weinberger <richard@nod.at> Cc: Russell King <linux@armlinux.org.uk> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Cc: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2016-09-20powerpc: Remove all usages of NO_IRQMichael Ellerman
NO_IRQ has been == 0 on powerpc for just over ten years (since commit 0ebfff1491ef ("[POWERPC] Add new interrupt mapping core and change platforms to use it")). It's also 0 on most other arches. Although it's fairly harmless, every now and then it causes confusion when a driver is built on powerpc and another arch which doesn't define NO_IRQ. There's at least 6 definitions of NO_IRQ in drivers/, at least some of which are to work around that problem. So we'd like to remove it. This is fairly trivial in the arch code, we just convert: if (irq == NO_IRQ) to if (!irq) if (irq != NO_IRQ) to if (irq) irq = NO_IRQ; to irq = 0; return NO_IRQ; to return 0; And a few other odd cases as well. At least for now we keep the #define NO_IRQ, because there is driver code that uses NO_IRQ and the fixes to remove those will go via other trees. Note we also change some occurrences in PPC sound drivers, drivers/ps3, and drivers/macintosh. Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>
2016-07-21powerpc/pmac: Remove early allocation of the SMU command bufferBenjamin Herrenschmidt
The SMU command buffer needs to be allocated below 2G using memblock. In the past, this had to be done very early from the arch code as memblock wasn't available past that point. 2010-09-15mac: autoconvert trivial BKL users to private mutexArnd Bergmann
All these files use the big kernel lock in a trivial way to serialize their private file operations, typically resulting from an earlier semi-automatic pushdown from VFS. None of these drivers appears to want to lock against other code, and they all use the BKL as the top-level lock in their file operations, meaning that there is no lock-order inversion problem. Consequently, we can remove the BKL completely, replacing it with a per-file mutex in every case. Using a scripted approach means we can avoid typos. file=$1 name=$2 if grep -q lock_kernel ${file} ; then if grep -q 'include.*linux.mutex.h' ${file} ; then sed -i '/include.*<linux\/smp_lock.h>/d' ${file} else sed -i 's/include.*<linux\/smp_lock.h>.*$/include <linux\/mutex.h>/g' ${file} fi sed -i ${file} \ -e "/^#include.*linux.mutex.h/,$ { 1,/^\(static\|int\|long\)/ { /^\(static\|int\|long\)/istatic DEFINE_MUTEX(${name}_mutex); } }" \ -e "s/\(un\)*lock_kernel\>[ ]*()/mutex_\1lock(\&${name}_mutex)/g" \ -e '/[ ]*cycle_kernel_lock();/d' else sed -i -e '/include.*\<smp_lock.h\>/d' ${file} \ -e '/cycle_kernel_lock()/d' fi Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Cc: linuxppc-dev@ozlabs.org

.name, .match_table and .owner are duplicated in both of_platform_driver and device_driver. This patch is a removes the extra copies from struct of_platform_driver and converts all users to the device_driver members. This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup will be trivial. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2008-07-01drivers/macintosh/smu.c: Improve error handlingJulia Lawall
This makes two changes: * As noted by Akinobu Mita in patch b1fceac2b9e04d278316b2faddf276015fc06e3b, alloc_bootmem never returns NULL and always returns a zeroed region of memory. Thus the error checking code and memset after the call to alloc_bootmem are not necessary. * The old error handling code consisted of setting a global variable to NULL and returning an error code, which could cause previously allocated resources never to be freed. 2008-02-08[POWERPC] Disable G5 NAP mode during SMU commands on U3Benjamin Herrenschmidt
It appears that with the U3 northbridge, if the processor is in NAP mode the whole time while waiting for an SMU command to complete, then the SMU will fail. It could be related to the weird backward mechanism the SMU uses to get to system memory via i2c to the northbridge that doesn't operate properly when the said bridge is in napping along with the CPU. That is on U3 at least, U4 doesn't seem to be affected. This didn't show before NO_HZ as the timer wakeup was enough to make it work it seems, but that is no longer the case.
