2024-08-09media: Drop explicit initialization of struct i2c_device_id::driver_data to 0Uwe Kleine-König
These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id, so don't explicitly initialize this member. This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. 2023-12-04media: v4l2-subdev: Rename .init_cfg() operation to .init_state()Laurent Pinchart
The subdev .init_cfg() operation is affected by two issues: - It has long been extended to initialize a whole v4l2_subdev_state instead of just a v4l2_subdev_pad_config, but its name has stuck around. - Despite operating on a whole subdev state and not being directly exposed to the subdev users (either in-kernel or through the userspace API), .init_cfg() is categorized as a subdev pad operation. This participates in making the subdev API confusing for new developers. Fix it by renaming the operation to .init_state(), and make it a subdev internal operation. 2023-11-23media: i2c: Use accessors for pad config 'try_*' fieldsLaurent Pinchart
The 'try_*' fields of the v4l2_subdev_pad_config structure are meant to be accessed through helper functions. Replace direct access with usage of the v4l2_subdev_get_pad_format(), v4l2_subdev_get_pad_crop() and v4l2_subdev_get_pad_compose() helpers. 2023-09-27media: i2c: Drop ifdeffery from sensor driversJacopo Mondi
Since commit 7d3c7d2a2914 ("media: i2c: Add a camera sensor top level menu") the CONFIG_MEDIA_CONTROLLER and CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2_SUBDEV_API are selected by the top-level VIDEO_CAMERA_SENSOR menu. Remove all ifdefferies from camera sensor drivers to simplify the code. Compile-tested only. The driver will match mostly by DT table (even thought there is regular ID table) so there is little benefit in of_match_ptr (this also allows ACPI matching via PRP0001, even though it might not be relevant here). 2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. 2021-06-17media: v4l2-subdev: add subdev-wide state structTomi Valkeinen
We have 'struct v4l2_subdev_pad_config' which contains configuration for a single pad used for the TRY functionality, and an array of those structs is passed to various v4l2_subdev_pad_ops. I was working on subdev internal routing between pads, and realized that there's no way to add TRY functionality for routes, which is not pad specific configuration. Adding a separate struct for try-route config wouldn't work either, as e.g. set-fmt needs to know the try-route configuration to propagate the settings. This patch adds a new struct, 'struct v4l2_subdev_state' (which at the moment only contains the v4l2_subdev_pad_config array) and the new struct is used in most of the places where v4l2_subdev_pad_config was used. All v4l2_subdev_pad_ops functions taking v4l2_subdev_pad_config are changed to instead take v4l2_subdev_state. The changes to drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-subdev.c and include/media/v4l2-subdev.h were written by hand, and all the driver changes were done with the semantic patch below. The spatch needs to be applied to a select list of directories. I used the following shell commands to apply the spatch: dirs="drivers/media/i2c drivers/media/platform drivers/media/usb drivers/media/test-drivers/vimc drivers/media/pci drivers/staging/media" for dir in $dirs; do spatch -j8 --dir --include-headers --no-show-diff --in-place --sp-file v4l2-subdev-state.cocci $dir; done Note that Coccinelle chokes on a few drivers (gcc extensions?). With minor changes we can make Coccinelle run fine, and these changes can be reverted after spatch. If CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L2_SUBDEV_API is not set, then it is still possible to call set_fmt for V4L2_SUBDEV_FORMAT_TRY, the result is just not stored. So return 0 instead of -ENOTTY. Calling get_fmt with V4L2_SUBDEV_FORMAT_TRY should return -EINVAL instead of -ENOTTY, after all the get_fmt functionality is still present, just not supported for TRY. The set_fmt() subdev pad operation for this driver currently does not only do the driver internal format selection but also do the actual register setup. This doesn't work if the device power control via GPIO lines is enabled. Because the set_fmt() can be called when the device is placed into power down mode. First of all, this fix adds flag to keep track of whether the device starts streaming or not. Then, the set_fmt() postpones applying the actual register setup at this time. Instead the setup will be applied when the streaming is started. The v4l2_i2c_subdev_init() sets V4L2_SUBDEV_FL_IS_I2C flag in the subdev->flags. But this driver overwrites subdev->flags immediately after calling v4l2_i2c_subdev_init(). So V4L2_SUBDEV_FL_IS_I2C is not set after all. This stops breaking subdev->flags and preserves V4L2_SUBDEV_FL_IS_I2C. Side note: According to the comment in v4l2_device_unregister(), this is problematic only if the device is platform bus device. Device tree or ACPI based devices are not affected. Enabling vflip currently causes wrong colors. It seems that (at least with the current sensor setup) REG04_VFLIP_IMG only changes the vertical readout direction. Because pixels are arranged RGRG... in odd lines and GBGB... in even lines, either a one line shift or even/odd line swap is required, too, but apparently this doesn't happen. I finally figured out that this can be done manually by setting REG04_VREF_EN. Looking at hflip, it turns out that bit REG04_HREF_EN is set there permanetly, but according to my tests has no effect on the pixel readout order. So my conclusion is that the current documentation of sensor register 0x04 is wrong (has changed after preliminary datasheet version 2.2). I'm pretty sure that automatic vertical line shift/switch can be enabled, too, but until anyone finds ot how this works, we have to stick with manual switching. As warned by kbuild test robot: warning: (VIDEO_EM28XX_V4L2) selects VIDEO_OV2640 which has unmet direct dependencies (MEDIA_SUPPORT && VIDEO_V4L2 && I2C && GPIOLIB && MEDIA_CAMERA_SUPPORT) The em28xx driver can use ov2640, but it doesn't depend (or use) the GPIOLIB in order to power off/on the sensor. So, as we want to allow both usages with and without GPIOLIB, make its dependency optional.
