2023-09-20net: ethernet: 8390: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert these drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. The 'mem' returned by platform_get_resource() has been checked in probe function, so it is no need do this check in remove function. 2022-03-11ethernet: 8390: Remove unnecessary print function dev_err()Yang Li
The print function dev_err() is redundant because platform_get_irq() already prints an error. Eliminate the follow coccicheck warning: ./drivers/net/ethernet/8390/mcf8390.c:414:2-9: line 414 is redundant because platform_get_irq() already prints an error Reported-by: Abaci Robot <abaci@linux.alibaba.com> Signed-off-by: Yang Li <yang.lee@linux.alibaba.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220311001756.12234-1-yang.lee@linux.alibaba.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
2022-03-09net:mcf8390: Use platform_get_irq() to get the interruptMinghao Chi (CGEL ZTE)
It is not recommened to use platform_get_resource(pdev, IORESOURCE_IRQ) for requesting IRQ's resources any more, as they can be not ready yet in case of DT-booting. platform_get_irq() instead is a recommended way for getting IRQ even if it was not retrieved earlier. It also makes code simpler because we're getting "int" value right away and no conversion from resource to int is required. 2021-10-09ethernet: 8390: remove direct netdev->dev_addr writesJakub Kicinski
8390 contains a lot of loops assigning netdev->dev_addr byte by byte. Convert what's possible directly to eth_hw_addr_set(), use local buf in other places. Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2018-02-21net/8390: Fix msg_enable patch snafuFinn Thain
The lib8390 module parameter 'msg_enable' doesn't do anything useful: it causes an ancient version string to be logged. Remove redundant code that logs the same string. In ne.c and wd.c, the value of ei_local->msg_enable is used before being assigned. Use ne_msg_enable and wd_msg_enable, respectively. Most of the other 8390 drivers never assign ei_local->msg_enable. Use the 'msg_enable' module parameter from lib8390 as the default value. Eliminate the pointless static and local variables. Clean up an indentation mistake. All of these issues originated from the same patch. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set to 4096 to remedy that. v2: fix up lantiq_etop, missed breakage due to drive not compiling on x86 CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-01-16drivers/net: delete non-required instances of include <linux/init.h>Paul Gortmaker
None of these files are actually using any __init type directives and hence don't need to include <linux/init.h>. Most are just a left over from __devinit and __cpuinit removal, or simply due to code getting copied from one driver to the next. This covers everything under drivers/net except for wireless, which has been submitted separately. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2013-12-118390 : Replace ei_debug with msg_enable/NETIF_MSG_* featureMatthew Whitehead
Removed the shared ei_debug variable. Replaced it by adding u32 msg_enable to the private struct ei_device. Now each 8390 ethernet instance has a per-device logging variable. Changed older style printk() calls to more canonical forms. Tested on: ne, ne2k-pci, smc-ultra, and wd hardware. V4.0 - Substituted pr_info() and pr_debug() for printk() KERN_INFO and KERN_DEBUG V3.0 - Checked for cases where pr_cont() was most appropriate choice. - Changed module parameter from 'debug' to 'msg_enable' because debug was no longer the best description. V2.0 - Changed netif_msg_(drv|probe|ifdown|rx_err|tx_err|tx_queued|intr|rx_status|hw) to netif_(dbg|info|warn|err) where possible. 2012-07-12net: add support for NS8390 based eth controllers on some ColdFire CPU boardsGreg Ungerer
A number of older ColdFire CPU based boards use NS8390 based network controllers. Most use the Davicom 9008F or the UMC 9008F. This driver provides the support code to get these devices working on these platforms. Generally the NS8390 based eth device is direct connected via the general purpose bus of the ColdFire CPU. So its addressing and interrupt setup is fixed on each of the different platforms (classic platform setup). This driver is based on the other drivers/net/ethernet/8390 drivers, and includes the lib8390.c code. It uses the existing definitions of the board NS8390 device addresses, interrupts and access types from the arch/m68k/include/asm/mcf8390.h, but moves the IO access functions into the driver code and out of that header.
