2018-06-23net: Remove depends on HAS_DMA in case of platform dependencyGeert Uytterhoeven
Remove dependencies on HAS_DMA where a Kconfig symbol depends on another symbol that implies HAS_DMA, and, optionally, on "|| COMPILE_TEST". In most cases this other symbol is an architecture or platform specific symbol, or PCI. Generic symbols and drivers without platform dependencies keep their dependencies on HAS_DMA, to prevent compiling subsystems or drivers that cannot work anyway. This simplifies the dependencies, and allows to improve compile-testing. 2016-11-16ptp_clock: Allow for it to be optionalNicolas Pitre
In order to break the hard dependency between the PTP clock subsystem and ethernet drivers capable of being clock providers, this patch provides simple PTP stub functions to allow linkage of those drivers into the kernel even when the PTP subsystem is configured out. Drivers must be ready to accept NULL from ptp_clock_register() in that case. And to make it possible for PTP to be configured out, the select statement in those driver's Kconfig menu entries is converted to the new "imply" statement. This way the PTP subsystem may have Kconfig dependencies of its own, such as POSIX_TIMERS, without having to make those ethernet drivers unavailable if POSIX timers are cconfigured out. And when support for POSIX timers is selected again then the default config option for PTP clock support will automatically be adjusted accordingly. The pch_gbe driver is a bit special as it relies on extra code in drivers/ptp/ptp_pch.c. Therefore we let the make process descend into drivers/ptp/ even if PTP_1588_CLOCK is unselected. 2016-09-28sh_eth: add R8A7743/5 supportSergei Shtylyov
Add support for the first two members of the Renesas RZ/G family, RZ/G1M/E (also known as R8A7743/5). The Ether core is the same as in the R-Car gen2 SoCs, so will share the code/data with them... 2016-03-03sh_eth, ravb: Use ARCH_RENESASSimon Horman
Make use of ARCH_RENESAS in place of ARCH_SHMOBILE. This is part of an ongoing process to migrate from ARCH_SHMOBILE to ARCH_RENESAS the motivation for which being that RENESAS seems to be a more appropriate name than SHMOBILE for the majority of Renesas ARM based SoCs. 2015-06-23drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTOPaul Gortmaker
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. No code is changed in this commit, just Kconfig help text. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2015-06-11Renesas Ethernet AVB driver properSergei Shtylyov
Ethernet AVB includes an Gigabit Ethernet controller (E-MAC) that is basically compatible with SuperH Gigabit Ethernet E-MAC. Ethernet AVB has a dedicated direct memory access controller (AVB-DMAC) that is a new design compared to the SuperH E-DMAC. The AVB-DMAC is compliant with 3 standards formulated for IEEE 802.1BA: IEEE 802.1AS timing and synchronization protocol, IEEE 802.1Qav real- time transfer, and the IEEE 802.1Qat stream reservation protocol. The driver only supports device tree probing, so the binding document is included in this patch. Based on the original patches by Mitsuhiro Kimura. 2013-12-10sh_eth: add R8A7791 supportSergei Shtylyov
Add support for yet another ARM member of the R-Car family, R-Car M2, also known as R8A7791 -- it will share the code and data with previously added R8A7790. Despite the Ether devices in these SoCs are indistinguishable at least from the driver's point of view, we do introduce a new platform device ID "r8a7791-ether" unlike the wildcard ID used for R8A7778/9 SoCs, due to newly established policy for the Renesas SoCs. 2013-06-19net: Move MII out from under NET_CORE and hide itBen Hutchings
All drivers that select MII also need to select NET_CORE because MII depends on it. This is a bit ridiculous because NET_CORE is just a menu option that doesn't enable any code by itself. There is also no need for it to be a visible option, since its users all select it. 2011-09-15MII: fix Kconfig dependencies for MIIJeff Kirsher
MII Kconfig option is apart of the core networking drivers and by default NET_CORE is enabled so drivers selecting MII will have MII enabled as well. It was found using the randconfig option during testing, MII would be selected but NET_CORE could be disabled. This caused a dependency error. Resolved the dependency by selecting NET_CORE when MII is selected.
