2024-07-15net: Add struct kernel_ethtool_ts_infoKory Maincent
In prevision to add new UAPI for hwtstamp we will be limited to the struct ethtool_ts_info that is currently passed in fixed binary format through the ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO ethtool ioctl. It would be good if new kernel code already started operating on an extensible kernel variant of that structure, similar in concept to struct kernel_hwtstamp_config vs struct hwtstamp_config. Since struct ethtool_ts_info is in include/uapi/linux/ethtool.h, here we introduce the kernel-only structure in include/linux/ethtool.h. The manual copy is then made in the function called by ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO. 2023-12-13net: ethtool: pass a pointer to parameters to get/set_rxfh ethtool opsAhmed Zaki
The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. The set_* should also take an extack. 2023-08-22sfc: allocate a big enough SKB for loopback selftest packetEdward Cree
Cited commits passed a size to alloc_skb that was only big enough for the actual packet contents, but the following skb_put + memcpy writes the whole struct efx_loopback_payload including leading and trailing padding bytes (which are then stripped off with skb_pull/skb_trim). This could cause an skb_over_panic, although in practice we get saved by kmalloc_size_roundup. Pass the entire size we use, instead of the size of the final packet. Add two bytes of padding to the start of struct ef4_loopback_payload, which are not sent on the wire. 2023-03-08sfc: falcon: Drop redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting()Bjorn Helgaas
pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() enables the device to send ERR_* Messages. Since f26e58bf6f54 ("PCI/AER: Enable error reporting when AER is native"), the PCI core does this for all devices during enumeration, so the driver doesn't need to do it itself. Remove the redundant pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() call from the driver. Also remove the corresponding pci_disable_pcie_error_reporting() from the driver .remove() path. Note that this only controls ERR_* Messages from the device. An ERR_* Message may cause the Root Port to generate an interrupt, depending on the AER Root Error Command register managed by the AER service driver. 2022-05-16net: allow gso_max_size to exceed 65536Alexander Duyck
The code for gso_max_size was added originally to allow for debugging and workaround of buggy devices that couldn't support TSO with blocks 64K in size. The original reason for limiting it to 64K was because that was the existing limits of IPv4 and non-jumbogram IPv6 length fields. With the addition of Big TCP we can remove this limit and allow the value to potentially go up to UINT_MAX and instead be limited by the tso_max_size value. So in order to support this we need to go through and clean up the remaining users of the gso_max_size value so that the values will cap at 64K for non-TCPv6 flows. In addition we can clean up the GSO_MAX_SIZE value so that 64K becomes GSO_LEGACY_MAX_SIZE and UINT_MAX will now be the upper limit for GSO_MAX_SIZE. v6: (edumazet) fixed a compile error if CONFIG_IPV6=n, in a new sk_trim_gso_size() helper. netif_set_tso_max_size() caps the requested TSO size with GSO_MAX_SIZE. Even if an IOMMU might be present for some PCI segment in the system, that doesn't necessarily mean it provides translation for the device we care about. It appears that what we care about here is specifically whether DMA mapping ops involve any IOMMU overhead or not, so check for translation actually being active for our device. As part of the W=1 cleanups for ethernet, a million [*] driver comments had to be cleaned up to get the W=1 compilation to succeed. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. The method struct pci_error_handlers.error_detected() is defined and documented as taking an 'enum pci_channel_state' for the second argument, but most drivers use 'pci_channel_state_t' instead. This 'pci_channel_state_t' is not a typedef for the enum but a typedef for a bitwise type in order to have better/stricter typechecking. Consolidate everything by using 'pci_channel_state_t' in the method's definition, in the related helpers and in the drivers. Enforce use of 'pci_channel_state_t' by replacing 'enum pci_channel_state' with an anonymous 'enum'. Note: Currently, from a typechecking point of view this patch changes nothing because only the constants defined by the enum are bitwise, not the enum itself (sparse doesn't have the notion of 'bitwise enum'). This may change in some not too far future, hence the patch. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation.
