2023-03-28smsc911x: avoid PHY being resumed when interface is not upWolfram Sang
SMSC911x doesn't need mdiobus suspend/resume, that's why it sets 'mac_managed_pm'. However, setting it needs to be moved from init to probe, so mdiobus PM functions will really never be called (e.g. when the interface is not up yet during suspend/resume). 2022-05-03smsc911x: allow using IRQ0Sergey Shtylyov
The AlphaProject AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A SH boards use IRQ0 for their SMSC LAN911x Ethernet chip, so the networking on them must have been broken by commit 965b2aa78fbc ("net/smsc911x: fix irq resource allocation failure") which filtered out 0 as well as the negative error codes -- it was kinda correct at the time, as platform_get_irq() could return 0 on of_irq_get() failure and on the actual 0 in an IRQ resource. This issue was fixed by me (back in 2016!), so we should be able to fix this driver to allow IRQ0 usage again... When merging this to the stable kernels, make sure you also merge commit e330b9a6bb35 ("platform: don't return 0 from platform_get_irq[_byname]() on error") -- that's my fix to platform_get_irq() for the DT platforms... To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. Currently the smsc911x driver has mininal power management: during driver probe, the device is powered up, and during driver remove, it is powered down. Improve power management by making it more fine-grained: 1. Power the device down when driver probe is finished, 2. Power the device (down) when it is opened (closed), 3. Make sure the device is powered during PHY access. Now that the compiler always sees the parameters passed to the DBG() macro, it gives an error message about wrong parameters. The comment says it all: /* ndev is not valid yet, so avoid passing it in. */ DBG(SMC_DEBUG_FUNC, "--> %s\n", __func__); You cannot not just pass a parameter!
