2023-09-19net: stmmac: fix incorrect rxq|txq_stats referenceJisheng Zhang
commit 133466c3bbe1 ("net: stmmac: use per-queue 64 bit statistics where necessary") caused one regression as found by Uwe, the backtrace looks like: INFO: trying to register non-static key. The code is fine but needs lockdep annotation, or maybe you didn't initialize this object before use? turning off the locking correctness validator. Fix this issue by moving rxq|txq_stats back to stmmac_extra_stats. For SMP cache friendly, we also mark stmmac_txq_stats and stmmac_rxq_stats as ____cacheline_aligned_in_smp. 2023-07-19net: stmmac: use per-queue 64 bit statistics where necessaryJisheng Zhang
Currently, there are two major issues with stmmac driver statistics First of all, statistics in stmmac_extra_stats, stmmac_rxq_stats and stmmac_txq_stats are 32 bit variables on 32 bit platforms. This can cause some stats to overflow after several minutes of high traffic, for example rx_pkt_n, tx_pkt_n and so on. Secondly, if HW supports multiqueues, there are frequent cacheline ping pongs on some driver statistic vars, for example, normal_irq_n, tx_pkt_n and so on. What's more, frequent cacheline ping pongs on normal_irq_n happens in ISR, this makes the situation worse. To improve the driver, we convert those statistics to 64 bit, implement ndo_get_stats64 and update .get_ethtool_stats implementation accordingly. We also use per-queue statistics where necessary to remove the cacheline ping pongs as much as possible to make multiqueue operations faster. Those statistics which are not possible to overflow and not frequently updated are kept as is. 2022-08-25net: stmmac: work around sporadic tx issue on link-upHeiner Kallweit
This is a follow-up to the discussion in [0]. It seems to me that at least the IP version used on Amlogic SoC's sometimes has a problem if register MAC_CTRL_REG is written whilst the chip is still processing a previous write. But that's just a guess. Adding a delay between two writes to this register helps, but we can also simply omit the offending second write. This patch uses the second approach and is based on a suggestion from Qi Duan. Benefit of this approach is that we can save few register writes, also on not affected chip versions. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2012-11-26stmmac: add Rx watchdog support to mitigate the DMA irqsGiuseppe CAVALLARO
GMAC devices newer than databook 3.40 has an embedded timer that can be used for mitigating the number of interrupts. So this patch adds this optimizations. At any rate, the Rx watchdog can be disable (on bugged HW) by passing from the platform the riwt_off field. In this implementation the rx timer stored in the Reg9 is fixed to the max value. This will be tuned by using ethtool. V2: added a platform parameter to force to disable the rx-watchdog for example on new core where it is bugged. V3: do not disable NAPI when Rx watchdog is used. V4: a new extra statistic field has been added to show the early receive status in the interrupt handler. This patch also adds an extra check to avoid to call napi_schedule when the DMA_INTR_ENA_RIE bit is disabled in the Interrupt Mask register. 2012-11-26stmmac: add the initial tx coalesce schemaGiuseppe CAVALLARO
This patch adds a new schema used for mitigating the number of transmit interrupts. It is based on a SW timer and a threshold value. The timer is used to periodically call the stmmac_tx_clean function; the threshold is used for setting the IC (Interrupt on Completion bit). The ISR will then invoke the poll method. Also the patch improves some ethtool stat fields. V2: review the logic to manage the IC bit in the TDESC that was bugged because it didn't take care about the fragments. Also fix the tx_count_frames that has not to be limited to TX DMA ring. Thanks to Ben Hutchings. V3: removed the spin_lock irqsave/restore as D. Miller suggested. 2012-05-14stmmac: extend mac addr reg and fix perfect fileringGiuseppe CAVALLARO
This patch is to extend the number of MAC address registers for 16 to 32. In fact, other new 16 registers are available in new chips and this can help on perfect filter mode for unicast. This patch also fixes the perfect filtering mode by setting the bit 31 in the MAC address registers. v2: fixed Coding Style.
