2017-11-03block: add a poll_fn callback to struct request_queueChristoph Hellwig
That we we can also poll non blk-mq queues. Mostly needed for the NVMe multipath code, but could also be useful elsewhere. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Reviewed-by: Hannes Reinecke <hare@suse.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2017-08-23block: replace bi_bdev with a gendisk pointer and partitions indexChristoph Hellwig
This way we don't need a block_device structure to submit I/O. The block_device has different life time rules from the gendisk and request_queue and is usually only available when the block device node is open. Other callers need to explicitly create one (e.g. the lightnvm passthrough code, or the new nvme multipathing code). For the actual I/O path all that we need is the gendisk, which exists once per block device. But given that the block layer also does partition remapping we additionally need a partition index, which is used for said remapping in generic_make_request. Note that all the block drivers generally want request_queue or sometimes the gendisk, so this removes a layer of indirection all over the stack. 2017-06-09block: switch bios to blk_status_tChristoph Hellwig
Replace bi_error with a new bi_status to allow for a clear conversion. Note that device mapper overloaded bi_error with a private value, which we'll have to keep arround at least for now and thus propagate to a proper blk_status_t value. 2017-04-08block: add a flags argument to (__)blkdev_issue_zerooutChristoph Hellwig

2017-04-07Merge branch 'for-linus' into for-4.12/blockJens Axboe
We've added a considerable amount of fixes for stalls and issues with the blk-mq scheduling in the 4.11 series since forking off the for-4.12/block branch. We need to do improvements on top of that for 4.12, so pull in the previous fixes to make our lives easier going forward. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@fb.com>
2017-04-04nvmet: Introduced helper routine for controller status check.Parav Pandit
This patch introduces helper function for checking controller status during admin and io command processing which returns u16 status. As to bring consistency on returning status, other friend functions also now return u16 status instead of int to match the spec. As part of the theseerror log prints in also prints qid on which command error occured. 2016-12-01nvmet: add support for the Write Zeroes commandChaitanya Kulkarni
Add support for handling write zeroes command on target. Call into __blkdev_issue_zeroout, which the block layer expands into the best suitable variant of zeroing the LBAs. Allow write zeroes operation to deallocate the LBAs when calling __blkdev_issue_zeroout. 2016-11-22block: bio: pass bvec table to bio_init()Ming Lei
Some drivers often use external bvec table, so introduce this helper for this case. It is always safe to access the bio->bi_io_vec in this way for this case. After converting to this usage, it will becomes a bit easier to evaluate the remaining direct access to bio->bi_io_vec, so it can help to prepare for the following multipage bvec support. 2016-07-05nvmet: add a generic NVMe targetChristoph Hellwig
This patch introduces a implementation of NVMe subsystems, controllers and discovery service which allows to export NVMe namespaces across fabrics such as Ethernet, FC etc. The implementation conforms to the NVMe 1.2.1 specification and interoperates with NVMe over fabrics host implementations. Configuration works using configfs, and is best performed using the nvmetcli tool from http://git.infradead.org/users/hch/nvmetcli.git, which also has a detailed explanation of the required steps in the README file.
