Add SPDX GPL-2.0+ to all PCI files that specified the GPL and allowed either GPL version 2 or any later version. Remove the boilerplate GPL version 2 or later language, relying on the assertion in b24413180f56 ("License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license") that the SPDX identifier may be used instead of the full boilerplate text. 2018-01-17PCI: Remove unnecessary messages for memory allocation failuresMarkus Elfring
Per ebfdc40969f2 ("checkpatch: attempt to find unnecessary 'out of memory' messages"), when a memory allocation fails, the memory subsystem emits generic "out of memory" messages (see slab_out_of_memory() for some of this logging). Therefore, additional error messages in the caller don't add much value. Remove messages that merely report "out of memory". This preserves some messages that report additional information, e.g., allocation failures that mean we drop hotplug events. This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software. 2018-01-17PCI: ibmphp: Deprecate pci_get_bus_and_slot()Sinan Kaya
pci_get_bus_and_slot() is restrictive such that it assumes domain=0 as where a PCI device is present. This restricts the device drivers to be reused for other domain numbers. Getting ready to remove pci_get_bus_and_slot() function in favor of pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot(). Hard-coding the domain parameter as 0 since the code doesn't seem to be ready for multiple domains. 2015-03-12PCI: Assign resources before drivers claim devices (pci_scan_bus())Yijing Wang
Previously, pci_scan_bus() created a root PCI bus, enumerated the devices on it, and called pci_bus_add_devices(), which made the devices available for drivers to claim them. Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver is managing the device. Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_bus() and do it after any resource assignment in the callers. module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. 2008-12-17PCI hotplug: ibmphp: Fix module ref count underflowNeil Horman
I happened to notice that the ibmphp hotplug driver does something rather silly in its init routine. It purposely calls module_put so as to underflow its module ref count to avoid being removed from the kernel. This is bad practice, and wrong, since it provides a window for subsequent module_gets to reset the refcount to zero, allowing an unload to race in and cause all sorts of mysterious panics. If the module is unsafe to load, simply omitting the module_exit parameter is sufficient to prevent the kernel from allowing the unload. In drivers/pci/hotplug/ibmphp_core.c::ibmphp_init_devno() we allocate space dynamically for a PCI irq routing table by calling pcibios_get_irq_routing_table(), but we never free the allocated space. This patch frees the allocated space at the function exit points. Spotted by the Coverity checker. Compile tested only. Please consider applying. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
