2017-11-24s390: drivers: Remove redundant license textGreg Kroah-Hartman
Now that the SPDX tag is in all drivers/s390/ files, that identifies the license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all. This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never needed. No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed. 2017-11-24s390: cio: add SPDX identifiers to the remaining filesGreg Kroah-Hartman
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. Update the drivers/s390/cio/ files with the correct SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This work is based on a script and data from Thomas Gleixner, Philippe Ombredanne, and Kate Stewart. All (but one) cmf related sysfs attributes have been converted to read directly from the measurement block using cmf_read. This is not possible for the avg_utilization attribute since this is an aggregation of several values for which cmf_read only returns average values. 2016-10-31s390: cio: make it explicitly non-modularPaul Gortmaker
The Makefile currently controlling compilation of this code is: obj-y += airq.o blacklist.o chsc.o cio.o css.o chp.o idset.o isc.o \ fcx.o itcw.o crw.o ccwreq.o trace.o ioasm.o ccw_device-objs += device.o device_fsm.o device_ops.o ccw_device-objs += device_id.o device_pgid.o device_status.o obj-y += ccw_device.o cmf.o ...meaning that the files here are not being built as modular. Lets remove the couple traces of modular infrastructure use, so that when reading the code there is no doubt it is builtin-only. Since module_init translates to device_initcall in the non-modular case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit. Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code. We delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information was (or is now) contained at the top of the file in the comments. 2016-07-14s390/cio: allow to reset channel measurement blockSebastian Ott
Prior to commit 1bc6664bdfb949bc69a08113801e7d6acbf6bc3f a call to enable_cmf for a device for which channel measurement was already enabled resulted in a reset of the measurement data. What looked like bugs at the time (a 2nd allocation was triggered but failed, reset was called regardless of previous failures, and errors have not been reported to userspace) was actually something at least one userspace tool depended on. Restore that behavior in a sane way. During allocation of extended measurement blocks we check if the device is already active for channel measurement and add the device to a list of devices with active channel measurement. The check is done under ccwlock protection and the list modification is guarded by a different lock. To guarantee that both states are in sync make sure that both locks are held during the allocation process (like it's already done for the "normal" measurement block allocation). 2015-10-14s390/cio: fix use after free in cmb processingSebastian Ott
Devices with active channel measurement are included in a list. When a device is removed without deactivating channel measurement first the list_head is freed but still used. Fix this by making sure that channel measurement is deactivated during device deregistration. For devices that we deregister because they are no longer accessible deactivating channel measurement will fail. In this case we can report success because the FW will no longer access the measurement block. In addition to these steps keep an extra device reference while channel measurement is active. 2012-07-20s390/comments: unify copyright messages and remove file namesHeiko Carstens
Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. Instead people start to take the old/"wrong" statements to use as a template for new files. So unify all of them in one go. Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com>
2012-01-13module_param: avoid bool abuse, add bint for special cases.Rusty Russell
For historical reasons, we allow module_param(bool) to take an int (or an unsigned int). That's going away. A few drivers really want an int: they set it to -1 and a parameter will set it to 0 or 1. This sucks: reading them from sysfs will give 'Y' for both -1 and 1, but if we change it to an int, then the users might be broken (if they did "param" instead of "param=1"). Use a new 'bint' parser for them. (ntfs has a different problem: it needs an int for debug_msgs because it's also exposed via sysctl.) 2008-12-25[S390] cio: introduce cio_commit_configSebastian Ott
To change the configuration of a subchannel we alter the modifiable bits of the subchannel's schib field and issue a modify subchannel. There can be the case that not all changes were applied -or worse- quietly overwritten by the hardware. With the next store subchannel we obtain the current state of the hardware but lose our target configuration. With this patch we introduce a subchannel_config structure which contains the target subchannel configuration. Additionally the msch wrapper cio_modify is replaced with cio_commit_config which copies the desired changes to a temporary schib. msch is then called with the temporary schib. This schib is only written back to the subchannel if all changes were applied. Signed-off-by: Sebastian Ott <sebott@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2008-12-25[S390] cio: introduce cio_update_schibSebastian Ott
There is the chance that we get condition code 0 for a stsch but the resulting schib is not vaild. In the current code there are 2 cases: * we do a check for validity of the schib after stsch, but at this time we have already stored the invaild schib in the subchannel structure. This may lead to problems. * we don't do a check for validity, which is not that good either. The patch addresses both issues by introducing the stsch wrapper cio_update_schib which performs stsch on a local schib. This schib is only written back to the subchannel if it's valid. side note: For some functions (chp_events) the return codes are different now (-ENXIO vs -ENODEV) but this shouldn't do harm since the caller doesn't check for _specific_ errors. 2006-06-29[S390] rework of channel measurement facility.Cornelia Huck
Fixes for several channel measurement facility bugs: * Blocks copied from the hardware might not be consistent. Solve this by moving the copying into idle state and repeating the copying. * avg_sample_interval changed with every read, even though no new block was available. Solve this by storing a timestamp when the last new block was received. * Several locking issues. * Measurements were not reenabled after a disconnected device became available again. * Remove #defines for ioctls that were never implemented.
