2010-06-04ssb: add dma_dev to ssb_device structureFUJITA Tomonori
Add dma_dev, a pointer to struct device, to struct ssb_device. We pass it to the generic DMA API with SSB_BUSTYPE_PCI and SSB_BUSTYPE_SSB. ssb_devices_register() sets up it properly. This is preparation for replacing the ssb bus specific DMA API (ssb_dma_*) with the generic DMA API. Instead of the old pcmcia_request_irq() interface, drivers may now choose between: - calling request_irq/free_irq directly. Use the IRQ from *p_dev->irq. - use pcmcia_request_irq(p_dev, handler_t); the PCMCIA core will clean up automatically on calls to pcmcia_disable_device() or device ejection. - drivers still not capable of IRQF_SHARED (or not telling us so) may use the deprecated pcmcia_request_exclusive_irq() for the time being; they might receive a shared IRQ nonetheless. 2010-04-26ssb: Make bus registration failure not be silentLarry Finger
In kernel Bugzilla #15825, a case where routine ssb_bus_pcibus_register() fails silently is reported. The cause for the failure is still being investigated; however, the diagnosis would be easier if the failure had been reported. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-11-23ssb: Fix SPROM writingMichael Buesch
The SPROM writing routines were broken since we rewrote the suspend handling on wireless devices, because SPROM writing depended on suspend. This patch changes it and freezes devices with the driver remove(), probe() callbacks instead. This also simplifies the whole logics a lot. 2008-11-21ssb: struct device - replace bus_id with dev_name(), dev_set_name()Kay Sievers
This patch is part of a larger patch series which will remove the "char bus_id[20]" name string from struct device. The device name is managed in the kobject anyway, and without any size limitation, and just needlessly copied into "struct device". To set and read the device name dev_name(dev) and dev_set_name(dev) must be used. If your code uses static kobjects, which it shouldn't do, "const char *init_name" can be used to statically provide the name the registered device should have. At registration time, the init_name field is cleared, to enforce the use of dev_name(dev) to access the device name at a later time. We need to get rid of all occurrences of bus_id in the entire tree to be able to enable the new interface. Please apply this patch, and possibly convert any remaining remaining occurrences of bus_id. We want to submit a patch to -next, which will remove bus_id from "struct device", to find the remaining pieces to convert, and finally switch over to the new api, which will remove the 20 bytes array and does no longer have a size limitation. 2008-06-27ssb, b43, b43legacy, b44: Rewrite SSB DMA APIMichael Buesch
This is a rewrite of the DMA API for SSB devices. This is needed, because the old (non-existing) "API" made too many bad assumptions on the API of the host-bus (PCI). This introduces an almost complete SSB-DMA-API that maps to the lowlevel bus-API based on the bustype. Signed-off-by: Michael Buesch <mb@bu3sch.de> Signed-off-by: John W. 2008-04-15ssb: Fix usage of struct device used for DMAingMichael Buesch
This fixes DMA on architectures where DMA is nontrivial, like PPC64. We must use the host-device's (PCI) struct device for any DMA operation instead of the SSB device. For this we add a new struct device pointer to the SSB device structure that will always point to the right device for DMAing. Without this patch b43 and b44 drivers won't work on complex-DMA architectures, that for example need dev->archdata for DMA operations. 2008-04-08ssb: Add support for block-I/OMichael Buesch

2008-01-28ssb: Convert to use of the new SPROM structureLarry Finger
In disagreement with the SPROM specs, revision 3 devices appear to have moved the MAC address. Change ssb to handle the revision 4 SPROM, which is a different size. This change in size is handled by adding a new variable to the ssb_sprom struct and using it whenever possible. For those routines that do not have access to this structure, a 'u16 size' argument is added. The new PCI_ID for the BCM4328 is also added. Testing of the Revision 4 SPROM, which is used on the BCM4328, was done by Michael Gerdau <mgerdau@tiscali.de>. Signed-off-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: John W. 2007-10-10[SSB]: add Sonics Silicon Backplane bus supportMichael Buesch
SSB is an SoC bus used in a number of embedded devices. The most well-known of these devices is probably the Linksys WRT54G, but there are others as well. The bus is also used internally on the BCM43xx and BCM44xx devices from Broadcom. This patch also includes support for SSB ID tables in modules, so that SSB drivers can be loaded automatically.
