2023-10-29drivers: watchdog: marvell_gti: Program the max_hw_heartbeat_msGeorge Cherian
Program the max_hw_heartbeat_ms value so that the watchdog_pretimeout worker is activated. This kernel worker thread makes sure to ping the watchdog in case the userspace is unable to do so. This kernel worker ping will be done only till the full watchdog timeout there by maintaining the watchdog functionality in case of a real hang. 2023-10-29watchdog: marvell_gti: Replace of_platform.h with explicit includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other and pull in various other headers. In preparation to fix this, adjust the includes for what is actually needed. of_platform.h isn't needed, but of.h was implicitly included by it (via of_device.h). According to the WDAT spec that states about WATCHDOG_ACTION_SET_COUNTDOWN_PERIOD: "This action is required if WATCHDOG_ACTION_RESET does not explicitly write a new countdown value to a register during a reset." And that implies, WATCHDOG_ACTION_RESET may write a countdown value, thus may come with a WATCHDOG_INSTRUCTION_WRITE_COUNTDOWN, thus need the timeout value as parameter or would otherwise write 0. The watchdog for SIONCT6126 need a entry WATCHDOG_INSTRUCTION_WRITE_COUNTDOWN for WATCHDOG_ACTION_RESET action, I send this patch to support it. 2023-10-29sbsa_gwdt: Calculate timeout with 64-bit mathDarren Hart
Commit abd3ac7902fb ("watchdog: sbsa: Support architecture version 1") introduced new timer math for watchdog revision 1 with the 48 bit offset register. The gwdt->clk and timeout are u32, but the argument being calculated is u64. Without a cast, the compiler performs u32 operations, truncating intermediate steps, resulting in incorrect values. A watchdog revision 1 implementation with a gwdt->clk of 1GHz and a timeout of 600s writes 3647256576 to the one shot watchdog instead of 300000000000, resulting in the watchdog firing in 3.6s instead of 600s. Force u64 math by casting the first argument (gwdt->clk) as a u64. Make the order of operations explicit with parenthesis. This patch adds watchdog support for the ITE IT8613 watchdog. IT8613 watchdog works in the same way as the other watchdogs supported by it87_wdt. Before this patch, IT8613 watchdog is not supported. After a modprobe, dmesg reports: it87_wdt: Unknown Chip found, Chip 8613 Revision 000c With this patch, modprobe it87_wdt recognizes the watchdog as the dmesg output shows: it87_wdt: Chip IT8613 revision 12 initialized. timeout=60 sec (nowayout=0 testmode=0) Watchdog tests on a LES v4 have been successful, the watchdog works as expected with this patch [1]. 2023-09-11arch: Remove Itanium (IA-64) architectureArd Biesheuvel
The Itanium architecture is obsolete, and an informal survey [0] reveals that any residual use of Itanium hardware in production is mostly HP-UX or OpenVMS based. The use of Linux on Itanium appears to be limited to enthusiasts that occasionally boot a fresh Linux kernel to see whether things are still working as intended, and perhaps to churn out some distro packages that are rarely used in practice. None of the original companies behind Itanium still produce or support any hardware or software for the architecture, and it is listed as 'Orphaned' in the MAINTAINERS file, as apparently, none of the engineers that contributed on behalf of those companies (nor anyone else, for that matter) have been willing to support or maintain the architecture upstream or even be responsible for applying the odd fix. The Intel firmware team removed all IA-64 support from the Tianocore/EDK2 reference implementation of EFI in 2018. (Itanium is the original architecture for which EFI was developed, and the way Linux supports it deviates significantly from other architectures.) Some distros, such as Debian and Gentoo, still maintain [unofficial] ia64 ports, but many have dropped support years ago. While the argument is being made [1] that there is a 'for the common good' angle to being able to build and run existing projects such as the Grid Community Toolkit [2] on Itanium for interoperability testing, the fact remains that none of those projects are known to be deployed on Linux/ia64, and very few people actually have access to such a system in the first place. Even if there were ways imaginable in which Linux/ia64 could be put to good use today, what matters is whether anyone is actually doing that, and this does not appear to be the case. There are no emulators widely available, and so boot testing Itanium is generally infeasible for ordinary contributors. GCC still supports IA-64 but its compile farm [3] no longer has any IA-64 machines. GLIBC would like to get rid of IA-64 [4] too because it would permit some overdue code cleanups. In summary, the benefits to the ecosystem of having IA-64 be part of it are mostly theoretical, whereas the maintenance overhead of keeping it supported is real. So let's rip off the band aid, and remove the IA-64 arch code entirely. This follows the timeline proposed by the Debian/ia64 maintainer [5], which removes support in a controlled manner, leaving IA-64 in a known good state in the most recent LTS release. When built with CONFIG_INTEL_MID_WATCHDOG=m, currently the driver needs to be loaded manually, for the lack of module alias. This causes unintended resets in cases where watchdog timer is set-up by bootloader and the driver is not explicitly loaded. Add MODULE_ALIAS() to load the driver automatically at boot and avoid this issue. 2023-08-19watchdog: core: stop watchdog when executing poweroff commandMeng Li
On some platforms, for example, Intel SoC FPGA platform, the watchdog is started in u-boot, and so kernel will create a timer and work to keep watchdog alive. But when user executes commands "poweroff" or "shutdown -h", the system is reset when watchdog triggers timeout even if WDOG_STOP_ON_REBOOT is set in watchdog driver. The root cause is that the watchdog is not stopped properly because the SYS_POWER_OFF case is not supported in notify callback function. So, add this case to stop watchdog when executing poweroff command. After commit f1a43aadb5a6 ("watchdog: Enable COMPILE_TEST for more drivers"), it is possible to enable this driver on 32-bit architectures. When building for those architectures with clang, there is an error due to a 64-bit division in xilinx_wwdt_start(): ERROR: modpost: "__aeabi_uldivmod" [drivers/watchdog/xilinx_wwdt.ko] undefined! Use div_u64() to fix this, which takes a 64-bit dividend and 32-bit divisor. GCC likely avoids the same error due to optimizations it employs to transform division by a constant into other equivalent operations, which may be different than what is implemented in clang. Use the new PM macros for the suspend and resume functions to be automatically dropped by the compiler when CONFIG_PM or CONFIG_PM_SLEEP are disabled, without having to use #ifdef guards. This has the advantage of always compiling these functions in, independently of any Kconfig option. Thanks to that, bugs and other regressions are subsequently easier to catch. 2023-08-13watchdog: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it was merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. Versal watchdog driver uses window watchdog mode. Window watchdog timer(WWDT) contains closed(first) and open(second) window with 32 bit width. Write to the watchdog timer within predefined window periods of time. This means a period that is not too soon and a period that is not too late. The WWDT has to be restarted within the open window time. If software tries to restart WWDT outside of the open window time period, it generates a reset.
