2016-12-09vfs: remove ".readlink = generic_readlink" assignmentsMiklos Szeredi
If .readlink == NULL implies generic_readlink(). Generated by: to_del="\.readlink.*=.*generic_readlink" for i in `git grep -l $to_del`; do sed -i "/$to_del"/d $i; done Signed-off-by: Miklos Szeredi <mszeredi@redhat.com>

2016-10-06jffs2: Remove jffs2_{get,set,remove}xattr macrosAndreas Gruenbacher
When CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_XATTR is off, jffs2_xattr_handlers is defined as NULL. With sb->s_xattr == NULL, the generic_{get,set,remove}xattr functions produce the same result as setting the {get,set,remove}xattr inode operations to NULL, so there is no need for these macros. 2015-12-08replace ->follow_link() with new method that could stay in RCU modeAl Viro
new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link(). The differences are: * inode and dentry are passed separately * might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode; the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry. * when called that way it isn't allowed to block and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called in non-RCU mode. It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances converted. Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode. That'll change in the next commits. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2012-03-27jffs2: Convert printks to pr_<level>Joe Perches
Use the more current logging style. Coalesce formats, align arguments. Convert uses of embedded function names to %s, __func__. A couple of long line checkpatch errors I don't care about exist. 2012-03-27jffs2: Convert most D1/D2 macros to jffs2_dbgJoe Perches
D1 and D2 macros are mostly uses to emit debugging messages. Convert the logging uses of D1 & D2 to jffs2_dbg(level, fmt, ...) to be a bit more consistent style with the rest of the kernel. All jffs2_dbg output is now at KERN_DEBUG where some of the previous uses were emitted at various KERN_<LEVEL>s. 2011-07-25fs: take the ACL checks to common codeChristoph Hellwig
Replace the ->check_acl method with a ->get_acl method that simply reads an ACL from disk after having a cache miss. This means we can replace the ACL checking boilerplate code with a single implementation in namei.c. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-09-08jffs2/jfs/xfs: switch over to 'check_acl' rather than 'permission()'Linus Torvalds
This avoids an indirect call in the VFS for each path component lookup. Well, at least as long as you own the directory in question, and the ACL check is unnecessary. 2007-04-25[JFFS2] Tidy up licensing/copyright boilerplate.David Woodhouse
In particular, remove the bit in the LICENCE file about contacting Red Hat for alternative arrangements. Their errant IS department broke that arrangement a long time ago -- the policy of collecting copyright assignments from contributors came to an end when the plug was pulled on the servers hosting the project, without notice or reason. We do still dual-license it for use with eCos, with the GPL+exception licence approved by the FSF as being GPL-compatible. It's just that nobody has the right to license it differently. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-05-13[JFFS2][XATTR] XATTR support on JFFS2 (version. 5)KaiGai Kohei
This attached patches provide xattr support including POSIX-ACL and SELinux support on JFFS2 (version.5). There are some significant differences from previous version posted at last December. The biggest change is addition of EBS(Erase Block Summary) support. Currently, both kernel and usermode utility (sumtool) can recognize xattr nodes which have JFFS2_NODETYPE_XATTR/_XREF nodetype. In addition, some bugs are fixed. - A potential race condition was fixed. - Unexpected fail when updating a xattr by same name/value pair was fixed. - A bug when removing xattr name/value pair was fixed. The fundamental structures (such as using two new nodetypes and exclusion mechanism by rwsem) are unchanged. But most of implementation were reviewed and updated if necessary. Espacially, we had to change several internal implementations related to load_xattr_datum() to avoid a potential race condition. 2005-11-06[JFFS2] Use f->target instead of f->dents for symlink targetArtem B. Bityutskiy
JFFS2 uses f->dents to store the pointer to the symlink target string (in case the inode is symlink). This is somewhat ugly to use the same field for different reasons. Introduce distinct field f->target for this purpose. Note, f->fragtree, f->dents, f->target may probably be put in a union. Signed-off-by: Artem B. 2005-08-19[PATCH] Fix up symlink function pointersAl Viro
This fixes up the symlink functions for the calling convention change: * afs, autofs4, befs, devfs, freevxfs, jffs2, jfs, ncpfs, procfs, smbfs, sysvfs, ufs, xfs - prototype change for ->follow_link() * befs, smbfs, xfs - same for ->put_link() Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-08-19[PATCH] jffs2: fix symlink error handlingAl Viro
The current calling conventions for ->follow_link() are already fairly complex. What we have is 1) you can return -error; then you must release nameidata yourself and ->put_link() will _not_ be called. 2) you can do nd_set_link(nd, ERR_PTR(-error)) and return 0 3) you can do nd_set_link(nd, path) and return 0 4) you can return 0 (after having moved nameidata yourself) jffs2 follow_link() is broken - it has an exit where it returns -EIO and leaks nameidata. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
