2017-08-23block: replace bi_bdev with a gendisk pointer and partitions indexChristoph Hellwig
This way we don't need a block_device structure to submit I/O. The block_device has different life time rules from the gendisk and request_queue and is usually only available when the block device node is open. Other callers need to explicitly create one (e.g. the lightnvm passthrough code, or the new nvme multipathing code). For the actual I/O path all that we need is the gendisk, which exists once per block device. But given that the block layer also does partition remapping we additionally need a partition index, which is used for said remapping in generic_make_request. Note that all the block drivers generally want request_queue or sometimes the gendisk, so this removes a layer of indirection all over the stack. 2017-06-20sched/wait: Disambiguate wq_entry->task_list and wq_head->task_list namingIngo Molnar
So I've noticed a number of instances where it was not obvious from the code whether ->task_list was for a wait-queue head or a wait-queue entry. Furthermore, there's a number of wait-queue users where the lists are not for 'tasks' but other entities (poll tables, etc.), in which case the 'task_list' name is actively confusing. To clear this all up, name the wait-queue head and entry list structure fields unambiguously: struct wait_queue_head::task_list => ::head struct wait_queue_entry::task_list => ::entry For example, this code: rqw->wait.task_list.next != &wait->task_list ... is was pretty unclear (to me) what it's doing, while now it's written this way: rqw->wait.head.next != &wait->entry ... which makes it pretty clear that we are iterating a list until we see the head. 2017-06-20sched/wait: Rename wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_tIngo Molnar
Rename: wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_t 'wait_queue_t' was always a slight misnomer: its name implies that it's a "queue", but in reality it's a queue *entry*. The 'real' queue is the wait queue head, which had to carry the name. Start sorting this out by renaming it to 'wait_queue_entry_t'. This also allows the real structure name 'struct __wait_queue' to lose its double underscore and become 'struct wait_queue_entry', which is the more canonical nomenclature for such data types. CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps. Use current_time() instead. CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe. This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also, current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be y2038 safe. Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they share the same time granularity. 2016-08-02nilfs2: move ioctl interface and disk layout to uapi separatelyRyusuke Konishi
The header file "include/linux/nilfs2_fs.h" is composed of parts for ioctl and disk format, and both are intended to be shared with user space programs. This moves them to the uapi directory "include/uapi/linux" splitting the file to "nilfs2_api.h" and "nilfs2_ondisk.h". The following minor changes are accompanied by this migration: - nilfs_direct_node struct in nilfs2/direct.h is converged to nilfs2_ondisk.h because it's an on-disk structure. - inline functions nilfs_rec_len_from_disk() and nilfs_rec_len_to_disk() are moved to nilfs2/dir.c. Define an own output routine to replace bare use of printk() function. The output routine is implemented with a macro and a helper function, which are named nilfs_msg() and __nilfs_msg(), respectively. __nilfs_msg() formats a message like "NILFS (<device-name>): <message>", prefixing it with a given log level, and terminates the statement with a newline. The "device-name" is optional to make it available in early stages; it will be omitted if a NULL pointer is passed to super block instance argument. nilfs_msg() wraps __nilfs_msg() and is removed if CONFIG_PRINTK is not set. The value `bytes' comes from the filesystem which is about to be mounted. We cannot trust that the value is always in the range we expect it to be. Check its value before using it to calculate the length for the crc32_le call. It value must be larger (or equal) sumoff + 4. This fixes a kernel bug when accidentially mounting an image file which had the nilfs2 magic value 0x3434 at the right offset 0x406 by chance. The bytes 0x01 0x00 were stored at 0x408 and were interpreted as a s_bytes value of 1. This caused an underflow when substracting sumoff + 4 (20) in the call to crc32_le.
