2022-07-13drm/crtc: Introduce drmm_crtc_init_with_planesMaxime Ripard
The DRM-managed function to register a CRTC is drmm_crtc_alloc_with_planes(), which will allocate the underlying structure and initialisation the CRTC. However, we might want to separate the structure creation and the CRTC initialisation, for example if the structure is shared across multiple DRM entities, for example an encoder and a connector. Let's create an helper to only initialise a CRTC that would be passed as an argument. 2022-01-25drm/docs: Document where the C8 color lut is storedDaniel Vetter
Also add notes that for atomic drivers it's really somewhere else and no longer in struct drm_crtc. Maybe we should put a bigger warning here that this is confusing, since the pixel format is a plane property, but the GAMMA_LUT property is on the crtc. But I think we can fix this if/when someone finds a need for a per-plane CLUT, since I'm not sure such hw even exists. I'm also not sure whether even hardware with a CLUT and a full color correction pipeline with degamm/cgm/gamma exists. 2021-12-22drm: Always include the debugfs dentry in drm_crtcVille Syrjälä
Remove the counterproductive CONFIG_DEBUG_FS ifdef and just include the debugfs dentry in drm_crtc always. This way we don't need annoying ifdefs in the actual code with DEBUGFS=n. Also we don't have these ifdefs around any of the other debugfs dentries either so can't see why drm_crtc should be special. This fixes the i915 DEBUGFS=n build because I assumed the dentry would always be there. 2020-10-21drm: Introduce plane and CRTC scaling filter propertiesPankaj Bharadiya
Introduce per-plane and per-CRTC scaling filter properties to allow userspace to select the driver's default scaling filter or Nearest-neighbor(NN) filter for upscaling operations on CRTC and plane. Drivers can set up this property for a plane by calling drm_plane_create_scaling_filter() and for a CRTC by calling drm_crtc_create_scaling_filter(). NN filter works by filling in the missing color values in the upscaled image with that of the coordinate-mapped nearest source pixel value. NN filter for integer multiple scaling can be particularly useful for for pixel art games that rely on sharp, blocky images to deliver their distinctive look. changes since: v6: * Move property doc to existing "Standard CRTC Properties" and "Plane Composition Properties" doc comments (Simon) changes since v3: * Refactor code, add new function for common code (Ville) changes since v2: * Create per-plane and per-CRTC scaling filter property (Ville) changes since v1: * None changes since RFC: * Add separate properties for plane and CRTC (Ville) Link: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18194 Link: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/18567 Reviewed-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Uma Shankar <uma.shankar@intel.com> Acked-by: Simon Ser <contact@emersion.fr> Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Pankaj Bharadiya <pankaj.laxminarayan.bharadiya@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20201020161427.6941-2-pankaj.laxminarayan.bharadiya@intel.com

2020-01-30drm: Initialize struct drm_crtc_state.no_vblank from device settingsThomas Zimmermann
At the end of a commit, atomic helpers can generate a fake VBLANK event automatically. Originally implemented for writeback connectors, the functionality can be used by any driver and/or hardware without proper VBLANK interrupt. The patch updates the documentation to make this behaviour official: settings struct drm_crtc_state.no_vblank to true enables automatic generation of fake VBLANK events. The new interface drm_dev_has_vblank() returns true if vblanking has been initialized for a device, or false otherwise. Atomic helpers use this function when initializing no_vblank in the CRTC state in drm_atomic_helper_check_modeset(). If vblanking has been initialized for a device, no_blank is disabled. Otherwise it's enabled. Hence, atomic helpers will automatically send out fake VBLANK events with any driver that did not initialize vblanking. v5: * more precise documentation and commit message v4: * replace drm_crtc_has_vblank() with drm_dev_has_vblank() * add drm_dev_has_vblank() in this patch * move driver changes into separate patches v3: * squash all related changes patches into this patch Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Gerd Hoffmann <kraxel@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20200129120531.6891-2-tzimmermann@suse.de

2019-06-13drm: Add helpers to kick off self refresh mode in driversSean Paul
This patch adds a new drm helper library to help drivers implement self refresh. Drivers choosing to use it will register crtcs and will receive callbacks when it's time to enter or exit self refresh mode. In its current form, it has a timer which will trigger after a driver-specified amount of inactivity. When the timer triggers, the helpers will submit a new atomic commit to shut the refreshing pipe off. On the next atomic commit, the drm core will revert the self refresh state and bring everything back up to be actively driven. From the driver's perspective, this works like a regular disable/enable cycle. The driver need only check the 'self_refresh_active' state in crtc_state. It should initiate self refresh mode on the panel and enter an off or low-power state. Changes in v2: - s/psr/self_refresh/ (Daniel) - integrated the psr exit into the commit that wakes it up (Jose/Daniel) - made the psr state per-crtc (Jose/Daniel) Changes in v3: - Remove the self_refresh_(active|changed) from connector state (Daniel) - Simplify loop in drm_self_refresh_helper_alter_state (Daniel) - Improve self_refresh_aware comment (Daniel) - s/self_refresh_state/self_refresh_data/ (Daniel) Changes in v4: - Move docbook location below panel (Daniel) - Improve docbook with references and more detailed explanation (Daniel) - Instead of register/unregister, use init/cleanup (Daniel) Changes in v5: - Resolved conflict in drm_atomic_helper.c #include block - Resolved conflict in rst with HDCP helper docs Changes in v6: - Fix include ordering, clean up forward declarations (Sam) Link to v1: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190228210939.83386-2-sean@poorly.run Link to v2: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190326204509.96515-1-sean@poorly.run Link to v3: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190502194956.218441-6-sean@poorly.run Link to v4: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190508160920.144739-6-sean@poorly.run Link to v5: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190611160844.257498-6-sean@poorly.run Cc: Daniel Vetter <daniel@ffwll.ch> Cc: Jose Souza <jose.souza@intel.com> Cc: Zain Wang <wzz@rock-chips.com> Cc: Tomasz Figa <tfiga@chromium.org> Cc: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Cc: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Tested-by: Heiko Stuebner <heiko@sntech.de> Reviewed-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Sean Paul <seanpaul@chromium.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20190612145026.191846-1-sean@poorly.run

2018-11-28drm: Add vrr_enabled property to drm CRTCNicholas Kazlauskas
This patch introduces the 'vrr_enabled' CRTC property to allow dynamic control over variable refresh rate support for a CRTC. This property should be treated like a content hint to the driver - if the hardware or driver is not capable of driving variable refresh timings then this is not considered an error. Capability for variable refresh rate support should be determined by querying the vrr_capable drm connector property. It is worth noting that while the property is intended for atomic use it isn't filtered from legacy userspace queries. This allows for Xorg userspace drivers to implement support. 2018-07-07drm/crtc: Add a generic infrastructure to fake VBLANK eventsBoris Brezillon
In some cases CRTCs are active but are not able to generating events, at least not at every frame at it's expected to. This is typically the case when the CRTC is feeding a writeback connector that has no job queued. In this situation the CRTC is usually stopped until a new job is queued, and this can lead to timeouts when part of the pipeline is updated but no new jobs are queued to the active writeback connector. In order to solve that, we add a ->no_vblank flag to drm_crtc_state and ask the CRTC drivers to set it to true when they know they're not able to generate VBLANK events. The core drm_atomic_helper_fake_vblank() helper can then be used to fake VBLANKs at commit time. 2017-08-08drm: Handle properties in the core for atomic driversDaniel Vetter
The reason behind the original indirection through the helper functions was to allow existing drivers to overwrite how they handle properties. For example when a vendor-specific userspace had expectations that didn't match atomic. That seemed likely, since atomic is standardizing a _lot_ more of the behaviour of a kms driver. But 20 drivers later there's no such need at all. Worse, this forces all drivers to hook up the default behaviour, breaking userspace if they forget to do that. And it forces us to export a bunch of core function just for those helpers. And finally, these helpers are the last places using drm_atomic_legacy_backoff() and the implicit acquire_ctx. This patch here just implements the new behaviour and updates the docs. Follow-up patches will garbage-collect all the dead code. v2: Fixup docs even better! v3: Make it actually work ... v4: Drop the uses_atomic_modeset() checks from the previous patch again, since they're now moved up in the callchain.
