2017-04-18mm: Rename SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCUPaul E. McKenney
A group of Linux kernel hackers reported chasing a bug that resulted from their assumption that SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU provided an existence guarantee, that is, that no block from such a slab would be reallocated during an RCU read-side critical section. Of course, that is not the case. Instead, SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU only prevents freeing of an entire slab of blocks. However, there is a phrase for this, namely "type safety". This commit therefore renames SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU in order to avoid future instances of this sort of confusion. Signed-off-by: Paul E. 2016-03-17mm: convert printk(KERN_<LEVEL> to pr_<level>Joe Perches
Most of the mm subsystem uses pr_<level> so make it consistent. 2016-03-17mm: coalesce split stringsJoe Perches

2016-03-15mm: kmemcheck skip object if slab allocation failedJesper Dangaard Brouer
In the SLAB allocator kmemcheck_slab_alloc() is guarded against being called in case the object is NULL. In SLUB allocator this NULL pointer invocation can happen, which seems like an oversight. Move the NULL pointer check into kmemcheck code (kmemcheck_slab_alloc) so the check gets moved out of the fastpath, when not compiled with CONFIG_KMEMCHECK. This is a step towards sharing post_alloc_hook between SLUB and SLAB, because slab_post_alloc_hook() does not perform this check before calling kmemcheck_slab_alloc(). 2014-10-09mm/slab_common: move kmem_cache definition to internal headerJoonsoo Kim
We don't need to keep kmem_cache definition in include/linux/slab.h if we don't need to inline kmem_cache_size(). According to my code inspection, this function is only called at lc_create() in lib/lru_cache.c which may be called at initialization phase of something, so we don't need to inline it. Therfore, move it to slab_common.c and move kmem_cache definition to internal header. After this change, we can change kmem_cache definition easily without full kernel build. For instance, we can turn on/off CONFIG_SLUB_STATS without full kernel build. 2009-06-15kmemcheck: add hooks for the page allocatorVegard Nossum
This adds support for tracking the initializedness of memory that was allocated with the page allocator. Highmem requests are not tracked. 2009-06-15kmemcheck: add mm functionsVegard Nossum
With kmemcheck enabled, the slab allocator needs to do this: 1. Tell kmemcheck to allocate the shadow memory which stores the status of each byte in the allocation proper, e.g. whether it is initialized or uninitialized. 2. Tell kmemcheck which parts of memory that should be marked uninitialized. There are actually a few more states, such as "not yet allocated" and "recently freed". If a slab cache is set up using the SLAB_NOTRACK flag, it will never return memory that can take page faults because of kmemcheck. If a slab cache is NOT set up using the SLAB_NOTRACK flag, callers can still request memory with the __GFP_NOTRACK flag. This does not prevent the page faults from occuring, however, but marks the object in question as being initialized so that no warnings will ever be produced for this object. In addition to (and in contrast to) __GFP_NOTRACK, the __GFP_NOTRACK_FALSE_POSITIVE flag indicates that the allocation should not be tracked _because_ it would produce a false positive. Their values are identical, but need not be so in the future (for example, we could now enable/disable false positives with a config option). Parts of this patch were contributed by Pekka Enberg but merged for atomicity.
