2018-07-02net: fix use-after-free in GRO with ESPSabrina Dubroca
Since the addition of GRO for ESP, gro_receive can consume the skb and return -EINPROGRESS. In that case, the lower layer GRO handler cannot touch the skb anymore. Commit 5f114163f2f5 ("net: Add a skb_gro_flush_final helper.") converted some of the gro_receive handlers that can lead to ESP's gro_receive so that they wouldn't access the skb when -EINPROGRESS is returned, but missed other spots, mainly in tunneling protocols. This patch finishes the conversion to using skb_gro_flush_final(), and adds a new helper, skb_gro_flush_final_remcsum(), used in VXLAN and GUE. 2018-06-26net: Convert GRO SKB handling to list_head.David Miller
Manage pending per-NAPI GRO packets via list_head. Return an SKB pointer from the GRO receive handlers. When GRO receive handlers return non-NULL, it means that this SKB needs to be completed at this time and removed from the NAPI queue. Several operations are greatly simplified by this transformation, especially timing out the oldest SKB in the list when gro_count exceeds MAX_GRO_SKBS, and napi_gro_flush() which walks the queue in reverse order. 2017-10-08gso: fix payload length when gso_size is zeroAlexey Kodanev
When gso_size reset to zero for the tail segment in skb_segment(), later in ipv6_gso_segment(), __skb_udp_tunnel_segment() and gre_gso_segment() we will get incorrect results (payload length, pcsum) for that segment. inet_gso_segment() already has a check for gso_size before calculating payload. 2016-10-20net: add recursion limit to GROSabrina Dubroca
Currently, GRO can do unlimited recursion through the gro_receive handlers. This was fixed for tunneling protocols by limiting tunnel GRO to one level with encap_mark, but both VLAN and TEB still have this problem. Thus, the kernel is vulnerable to a stack overflow, if we receive a packet composed entirely of VLAN headers. This patch adds a recursion counter to the GRO layer to prevent stack overflow. When a gro_receive function hits the recursion limit, GRO is aborted for this skb and it is processed normally. This recursion counter is put in the GRO CB, but could be turned into a percpu counter if we run out of space in the CB. Thanks to Vladimír Beneš <vbenes@redhat.com> for the initial bug report. 2016-09-19gso: Support partial splitting at the frag_list pointerSteffen Klassert
Since commit 8a29111c7 ("net: gro: allow to build full sized skb") gro may build buffers with a frag_list. This can hurt forwarding because most NICs can't offload such packets, they need to be segmented in software. This patch splits buffers with a frag_list at the frag_list pointer into buffers that can be TSO offloaded. 2016-05-20gso: Remove arbitrary checks for unsupported GSOTom Herbert
In several gso_segment functions there are checks of gso_type against a seemingly arbitrary list of SKB_GSO_* flags. This seems like an attempt to identify unsupported GSO types, but since the stack is the one that set these GSO types in the first place this seems unnecessary to do. If a combination isn't valid in the first place that stack should not allow setting it. This is a code simplication especially for add new GSO types. 2016-04-14GSO: Support partial segmentation offloadAlexander Duyck
This patch adds support for something I am referring to as GSO partial. The basic idea is that we can support a broader range of devices for segmentation if we use fixed outer headers and have the hardware only really deal with segmenting the inner header. The idea behind the naming is due to the fact that everything before csum_start will be fixed headers, and everything after will be the region that is handled by hardware. With the current implementation it allows us to add support for the following GSO types with an inner TSO_MANGLEID or TSO6 offload: NETIF_F_GSO_GRE NETIF_F_GSO_GRE_CSUM NETIF_F_GSO_IPIP NETIF_F_GSO_SIT NETIF_F_UDP_TUNNEL NETIF_F_UDP_TUNNEL_CSUM In the case of hardware that already supports tunneling we may be able to extend this further to support TSO_TCPV4 without TSO_MANGLEID if the hardware can support updating inner IPv4 headers. 2016-04-14GSO: Add GSO type for fixed IPv4 IDAlexander Duyck
This patch adds support for TSO using IPv4 headers with a fixed IP ID field. This is meant to allow us to do a lossless GRO in the case of TCP flows that use a fixed IP ID such as those that convert IPv6 header to IPv4 headers. In addition I am adding a feature that for now I am referring to TSO with IP ID mangling. Basically when this flag is enabled the device has the option to either output the flow with incrementing IP IDs or with a fixed IP ID regardless of what the original IP ID ordering was. This is useful in cases where the DF bit is set and we do not care if the original IP ID value is maintained. Signed-off-by: Alexander Duyck <aduyck@mirantis.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-04-07GRE: Disable segmentation offloads w/ CSUM and we are encapsulated via FOUAlexander Duyck
This patch fixes an issue I found in which we were dropping frames if we had enabled checksums on GRE headers that were encapsulated by either FOU or GUE. Without this patch I was barely able to get 1 Gb/s of throughput. With this patch applied I am now at least getting around 6 Gb/s. The issue is due to the fact that with FOU or GUE applied we do not provide a transport offset pointing to the GRE header, nor do we offload it in software as the GRE header is completely skipped by GSO and treated like a VXLAN or GENEVE type header. As such we need to prevent the stack from generating it and also prevent GRE from generating it via any interface we create. 2016-03-23net: Reset encap_level to avoid resetting features on inner IP headersAlexander Duyck
This patch corrects an oversight in which we were allowing the encap_level value to pass from the outer headers to the inner headers. As a result we were incorrectly identifying UDP or GRE tunnels as also making use of ipip or sit when the second header actually represented a tunnel encapsulated in either a UDP or GRE tunnel which already had the features masked. 2016-03-20tunnels: Don't apply GRO to multiple layers of encapsulation.Jesse Gross
When drivers express support for TSO of encapsulated packets, they only mean that they can do it for one layer of encapsulation. Supporting additional levels would mean updating, at a minimum, more IP length fields and they are unaware of this. No encapsulation device expresses support for handling offloaded encapsulated packets, so we won't generate these types of frames in the transmit path. However, GRO doesn't have a check for multiple levels of encapsulation and will attempt to build them. UDP tunnel GRO actually does prevent this situation but it only handles multiple UDP tunnels stacked on top of each other. This generalizes that solution to prevent any kind of tunnel stacking that would cause problems. 2016-03-13gro: Defer clearing of flush bit in tunnel pathsAlexander Duyck
This patch updates the GRO handlers for GRE, VXLAN, GENEVE, and FOU so that we do not clear the flush bit until after we have called the next level GRO handler. Previously this was being cleared before parsing through the list of frames, however this resulted in several paths where either the bit needed to be reset but wasn't as in the case of FOU, or cases where it was being set as in GENEVE. By just deferring the clearing of the bit until after the next level protocol has been parsed we can avoid any unnecessary bit twiddling and avoid bugs. 2016-02-26GSO: Provide software checksum of tunneled UDP fragmentation offloadAlexander Duyck
On reviewing the code I realized that GRE and UDP tunnels could cause a kernel panic if we used GSO to segment a large UDP frame that was sent through the tunnel with an outer checksum and hardware offloads were not available. In order to correct this we need to update the feature flags that are passed to the skb_segment function so that in the event of UDP fragmentation being requested for the inner header the segmentation function will correctly generate the checksum for the payload if we cannot segment the outer header. 2016-02-11net: Move skb_has_shared_frag check out of GRE code and into segmentationAlexander Duyck

This check really doesn't belong in the GRE path but in the skb_segment function itself. 2014-10-20net: gso: use feature flag argument in all protocol gso handlersFlorian Westphal
skb_gso_segment() has a 'features' argument representing offload features available to the output path. A few handlers, e.g. GRE, instead re-fetch the features of skb->dev and use those instead of the provided ones when handing encapsulation/tunnels. Depending on dev->hw_enc_features of the output device skb_gso_segment() can then return NULL even when the caller has disabled all GSO feature bits, as segmentation of inner header thinks device will take care of segmentation. This e.g. affects the tbf scheduler, which will silently drop GRE-encap GSO skbs that did not fit the remaining token quota as the segmentation does not work when device supports corresponding hw offload capabilities. 2014-01-16net/ipv4: don't use module_init in non-modular gre_offloadPaul Gortmaker
Recent commit 438e38fadca2f6e57eeecc08326c8a95758594d4 ("gre_offload: statically build GRE offloading support") added new module_init/module_exit calls to the gre_offload.c file. The file is obj-y and can't be anything other than built-in. Currently it can never be built modular, so using module_init as an alias for __initcall can be somewhat misleading. Fix this up now, so that we can relocate module_init from init.h into module.h in the future. If we don't do this, we'd have to add module.h to obviously non-modular code, and that would be a worse thing. We also make the inclusion explicit. Note that direct use of __initcall is discouraged, vs. one of the priority categorized subgroups. As __initcall gets mapped onto device_initcall, our use of device_initcall directly in this change means that the runtime impact is zero -- it will remain at level 6 in initcall ordering. As for the module_exit, rather than replace it with __exitcall, we simply remove it, since it appears only UML does anything with those, and even for UML, there is no relevant cleanup to be done here. 2014-01-07net-gre-gro: Add GRE support to the GRO stackJerry Chu
This patch built on top of Commit 299603e8370a93dd5d8e8d800f0dff1ce2c53d36 ("net-gro: Prepare GRO stack for the upcoming tunneling support") to add the support of the standard GRE (RFC1701/RFC2784/RFC2890) to the GRO stack. It also serves as an example for supporting other encapsulation protocols in the GRO stack in the future. The patch supports version 0 and all the flags (key, csum, seq#) but will flush any pkt with the S (seq#) flag. This is because the S flag is not support by GSO, and a GRO pkt may end up in the forwarding path, thus requiring GSO support to break it up correctly. Currently the "packet_offload" structure only contains L3 (ETH_P_IP/ ETH_P_IPV6) GRO offload support so the encapped pkts are limited to IP pkts (i.e., w/o L2 hdr). But support for other protocol type can be easily added, so is the support for GRE variations like NVGRE. The patch also support csum offload. Specifically if the csum flag is on and the h/w is capable of checksumming the payload (CHECKSUM_COMPLETE), the code will take advantage of the csum computed by the h/w when validating the GRE csum. Note that commit 60769a5dcd8755715c7143b4571d5c44f01796f1 "ipv4: gre: add GRO capability" already introduces GRO capability to IPv4 GRE tunnels, using the gro_cells infrastructure. But GRO is done after GRE hdr has been removed (i.e., decapped). The following patch applies GRO when pkts first come in (before hitting the GRE tunnel code). There is some performance advantage for applying GRO as early as possible. Also this approach is transparent to other subsystem like Open vSwitch where GRE decap is handled outside of the IP stack hence making it harder for the gro_cells stuff to apply. On the other hand, some NICs are still not capable of hashing on the inner hdr of a GRE pkt (RSS). In that case the GRO processing of pkts from the same remote host will all happen on the same CPU and the performance may be suboptimal. I'm including some rough preliminary performance numbers below. Note that the performance will be highly dependent on traffic load, mix as usual. Moreover it also depends on NIC offload features hence the following is by no means a comprehesive study. Local testing and tuning will be needed to decide the best setting. All tests spawned 50 copies of netperf TCP_STREAM and ran for 30 secs. 2014-01-06gre_offload: statically build GRE offloading supportEric Dumazet
GRO/GSO layers can be enabled on a node, even if said node is only forwarding packets. This patch permits GSO (and upcoming GRO) support for GRE encapsulated packets, even if the host has no GRE tunnel setup. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Cc: H.K. 2014-01-02ipv4: fix tunneled VM traffic over hw VXLAN/GRE GSO NICWei-Chun Chao
VM to VM GSO traffic is broken if it goes through VXLAN or GRE tunnel and the physical NIC on the host supports hardware VXLAN/GRE GSO offload (e.g. bnx2x and next-gen mlx4). Two issues - (VXLAN) VM traffic has SKB_GSO_DODGY and SKB_GSO_UDP_TUNNEL with SKB_GSO_TCP/UDP set depending on the inner protocol. GSO header integrity check fails in udp4_ufo_fragment if inner protocol is TCP. Also gso_segs is calculated incorrectly using skb->len that includes tunnel header. Fix: robust check should only be applied to the inner packet. (VXLAN & GRE) Once GSO header integrity check passes, NULL segs is returned and the original skb is sent to hardware. However the tunnel header is already pulled. Fix: tunnel header needs to be restored so that hardware can perform GSO properly on the original packet. 2013-10-19ipip: add GSO/TSO supportEric Dumazet
Now inet_gso_segment() is stackable, its relatively easy to implement GSO/TSO support for IPIP Performance results, when segmentation is done after tunnel device (as no NIC is yet enabled for TSO IPIP support) : Before patch : lpq83:~# ./netperf -H 7.7.9.84 -Cc MIGRATED TCP STREAM TEST from 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) port 0 AF_INET to 7.7.9.84 () port 0 AF_INET Recv Send Send Utilization Service Demand Socket Socket Message Elapsed Send Recv Send Recv Size Size Size Time Throughput local remote local remote bytes bytes bytes secs. 10^6bits/s % S % S us/KB us/KB 87380 16384 16384 10.00 3357.88 5.09 3.70 2.983 2.167 After patch : lpq83:~# ./netperf -H 7.7.9.84 -Cc MIGRATED TCP STREAM TEST from 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) port 0 AF_INET to 7.7.9.84 () port 0 AF_INET Recv Send Send Utilization Service Demand Socket Socket Message Elapsed Send Recv Send Recv Size Size Size Time Throughput local remote local remote bytes bytes bytes secs. 10^6bits/s % S % S us/KB us/KB 87380 16384 16384 10.00 7710.19 4.52 6.62 1.152 1.687 Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2013-07-11gso: Update tunnel segmentation to support Tx checksum offloadAlexander Duyck
This change makes it so that the GRE and VXLAN tunnels can make use of Tx checksum offload support provided by some drivers via the hw_enc_features. Without this fix enabling GSO means sacrificing Tx checksum offload and this actually leads to a performance regression as shown below: Utilization Send Throughput local GSO 10^6bits/s % S state 6276.51 8.39 enabled 7123.52 8.42 disabled To resolve this it was necessary to address two items. First netif_skb_features needed to be updated so that it would correctly handle the Trans Ether Bridging protocol without impacting the need to check for Q-in-Q tagging. To do this it was necessary to update harmonize_features so that it used skb_network_protocol instead of just using the outer protocol. Second it was necessary to update the GRE and UDP tunnel segmentation offloads so that they would reset the encapsulation bit and inner header offsets after the offload was complete. As a result of this change I have seen the following results on a interface with Tx checksum enabled for encapsulated frames: Utilization Send Throughput local GSO 10^6bits/s % S state 7123.52 8.42 disabled 8321.75 5.43 enabled v2: Instead of replacing refrence to skb->protocol with skb_network_protocol just replace the protocol reference in harmonize_features to allow for double VLAN tag checks. Conflicts: drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec_main.c drivers/net/ethernet/renesas/sh_eth.c net/ipv4/gre.c The GRE conflict is between a bug fix (kfree_skb --> kfree_skb_list) and the splitting of the gre.c code into seperate files. The FEC conflict was two sets of changes adding ethtool support code in an "!CONFIG_M5272" CPP protected block. Finally the sh_eth.c conflict was between one commit add bits set in the .eesr_err_check mask whilst another commit removed the .tx_error_check member and assignments. Signed-off-by: David S.
