2023-11-20mac802154: Handle disassociation notifications from peersMiquel Raynal
Peers may decided to disassociate from us, their coordinator, in this case they will send a disassociation notification which we must acknowledge. If we don't, the peer device considers itself disassociated anyway. We also need to drop the reference to this child from our internal structures. 2023-11-20mac802154: Handle association requests from peersMiquel Raynal
Coordinators may have to handle association requests from peers which want to join the PAN. The logic involves: - Acknowledging the request (done by hardware) - If requested, a random short address that is free on this PAN should be chosen for the device. - Sending an association response with the short address allocated for the peer and expecting it to be ack'ed. If anything fails during this procedure, the peer is considered not associated. If the ack of the disassociation notification is not received, the device may consider itself disassociated anyway. 2023-11-20mac802154: Handle associatingMiquel Raynal
Joining a PAN officially goes by associating with a coordinator. This coordinator may have been discovered thanks to the beacons it sent in the past. Add support to the MAC layer for these associations, which require: - Sending an association request - Receiving an association response The association response contains the association status, eventually a reason if the association was unsuccessful, and finally a short address that we should use for intra-PAN communication from now on, if we required one (which is the default, and not yet configurable). When performing an active scan, devices emit BEACON_REQ which must be answered by other PANs receiving the request, unless they are already passively sending beacons. Answering a beacon request becomes a duty when the user tells us to send beacons and the request provides an interval of 15. 2023-01-28mac802154: Handle basic beaconingMiquel Raynal
Implement the core hooks in order to provide the softMAC layer support for sending beacons. Coordinators may be requested to send beacons in a beacon enabled PAN in order for the other devices around to self discover the available PANs automatically. Changing the channels is prohibited while a beacon operation is ongoing. The implementation uses a workqueue triggered at a certain interval depending on the symbol duration for the current channel and the interval order provided. Sending beacons in response to a BEACON_REQ frame (ie. answering active scans) is not yet supported. This initial patchset has no security support (llsec). Implement the core hooks in order to provide the softMAC layer support for passive scans. Scans are requested by the user and can be aborted. Changing channels manually is prohibited during scans. The implementation uses a workqueue triggered at a certain interval depending on the symbol duration for the current channel and the duration order provided. More advanced drivers with internal scheduling capabilities might require additional care but there is none mainline yet. Received beacons during a passive scan are processed in a work queue and their result forwarded to the upper layer. Active scanning is not supported yet. 2022-10-12mac802154: set filter at drv_start()Alexander Aring
The current filtering level is set on the first interface up on a wpan phy. If we support scan functionality we need to change the filtering level on the fly on an operational phy and switching back again. This patch will move the receive mode parameter e.g. address filter and promiscuous mode to the drv_start() functionality to allow changing the receive mode on an operational phy not on first ifup only. In future this should be handled on driver layer because each hardware has it's own way to enter a specific filtering level. However this should offer to switch to mode IEEE802154_FILTERING_NONE and back to IEEE802154_FILTERING_4_FRAME_FIELDS. Only IEEE802154_FILTERING_4_FRAME_FIELDS and IEEE802154_FILTERING_NONE are somewhat supported by current hardware. All other filtering levels can be supported in future but will end in IEEE802154_FILTERING_NONE as the receive part can kind of "emulate" those receive paths by doing additional filtering routines. 2022-06-27net: mac802154: Fix a Tx warning checkMiquel Raynal
The purpose of the netif_is_down() helper was to ensure that the network interface used was still up when performing the transmission. What it actually did was to check if _all_ interfaces were up. This was not noticed at that time because I did not use interfaces at all before discussing with Alexander Aring about how to handle coordinators properly. Drop the helper and call netif_running() on the right sub interface object directly. 2022-06-10net: mac802154: Introduce a tx queue flushing mechanismMiquel Raynal
Right now we are able to stop a queue but we have no indication if a transmission is ongoing or not. Thanks to recent additions, we can track the number of ongoing transmissions so we know if the last transmission is over. Adding on top of it an internal wait queue also allows to be woken up asynchronously when this happens. If, beforehands, we marked the queue to be held and stopped it, we end up flushing and stopping the tx queue. Thanks to this feature, we will soon be able to introduce a synchronous transmit API. 2022-06-10net: mac802154: Bring the ability to hold the transmit queueMiquel Raynal
Create a hold_txs atomic variable and increment/decrement it when relevant, ie. when we want to hold the queue or release it: currently all the "stopped" situations are suitable, but very soon we will more extensively use this feature for MLME purposes. Upon release, the atomic counter is decremented and checked. If it is back to 0, then the netif queue gets woken up. This makes the whole process fully transparent, provided that all the users of ieee802154_wake/stop_queue() now call ieee802154_hold/release_queue() instead. In no situation individual drivers should call any of these helpers manually in order to avoid messing with the counters. There are other functions more suited for this purpose which have been introduced, such as the _xmit_complete() and _xmit_error() helpers which will handle all that for them. One advantage is that, as no more drivers call the stop/wake helpers directly, we can safely stop exporting them and only declare the hold/release ones in a header only accessible to the core. 2022-06-10net: mac802154: Rename the synchronous xmit workerMiquel Raynal
There are currently two driver hooks: one is synchronous, the other is not. We cannot rely on driver implementations to provide a synchronous API (which is related to the bus medium more than a wish to have a synchronized implementation) so we are going to introduce a sync API above any kind of driver transmit function. In order to clarify what this worker is for (synchronous driver implementation), let's rename it so that people don't get bothered by the fact that their driver does not make use of the "xmit worker" which is a too generic name. So far no error is returned from a failing transmission. However it might sometimes be useful, and particularly easy to use during sync transfers (for certain MLME commands). 2015-07-30mac802154: Fix memory corruption with global deferred transmit state.Lennert Buytenhek
When transmitting a packet via a mac802154 driver that can sleep in its transmit function, mac802154 defers the call to the driver's transmit function to a per-device workqueue. However, mac802154 uses a single global work_struct for this, which means that if you have more than one registered mac802154 interface in the system, and you transmit on more than one of them at the same time, you'll very easily cause memory corruption. This patch moves the deferred transmit processing state from global variables to struct ieee802154_local, and this seems to fix the memory corruption issue. 2015-07-23mac802154: cfg: add suspend and resume callbacksAlexander Aring
This patch introduces suspend and resume callbacks to mac802154. When doing suspend we calling the stop driver callback which should stop the receiving of frames. A transceiver should go into low-power mode then. Calling resume will call the start driver callback, which starts receiving again and allow to transmit frames. This was tested only with the fakelb driver and a qemu vm by doing the following commands: echo "devices" > /sys/power/pm_test echo "freeze" > /sys/power/state while doing some high traffic between two fakelb phys. 2015-05-23mac802154: remove mib lockAlexander Aring
This patch removes the mib lock. The new locking mechanism is to protect the mib values with the rtnl lock. Note that this isn't always necessary if we have an interface up the most mib values are readonly (e.g. address settings). With this behaviour we can remove locking in hotpath like frame parsing completely. It depends on context if we need to hold the rtnl lock or not, this makes the callbacks of ieee802154_mlme_ops unnecessary because these callbacks hols always the locks. 2014-11-17mac802154: use new nl802154 iftype typesAlexander Aring
This patch replace the depracted IEEE802154_DEV to the new introduced NL802154_IFTYPE_NODE types. There is a backwards compatibility to have the identical types for both enum definitions. Also remove some inlcude issue with "linux/nl802154.h", because the export nl_policy inside this header it was always necessary to have an include of "net/rtnetlink.h" before. The reason for this is more complicated. Nevertheless we removed this now, because "linux/nl802154.h" is the depracted netlink interface. 2014-11-13mac802154: add interframe spacing time handlingAlexander Aring
This patch adds a new interframe spacing time handling into mac802154 layer. Interframe spacing time is a time period between each transmit. This patch adds a high resolution timer into mac802154 and starts on xmit complete with corresponding interframe spacing expire time if ifs_handling is true. We make it variable because it depends if interframe spacing time is handled by transceiver or mac802154. At the timer complete function we wake the netdev queue again. This avoids new frame transmit in range of interframe spacing time. For synced driver we add no handling of interframe spacing time. This is currently a lack of support in all synced xmit drivers. This patch moves all mac pib attributes into the wpan_dev struct. Furthermore we can easier access these attributes over the netdev 802154_ptr pointer. Currently this is only possible over a complicated callback structure in mac802154 because subif data structure is accessable inside mac802154 only. 2014-11-05ieee802154: rework interface registrationAlexander Aring
This patch meld mac802154_netdev_register into ieee802154_if_add function. Also we have now only one alloc_netdev call with one interface setup routine "ieee802154_if_setup" instead two different one for each interface type. This patch checks via runtime the interface type and do different handling now. Additional we add the wpan_dev struct in ieee802154_sub_if_data and set the new ieee802154_ptr while netdev registration. This patch removes the wpan_phy callbacks for add and del an interface on a phy. Instead we introduce deprecated cfg802154 callbacks for this. Furthermore we introduce a new netlink interface nl802154 which use different callbacks. The deprecated function is to have a backwards compatibility with the current netlink interface.
