The Fixes commit mentioned this:
> An MPTCP firewall blackhole can be detected if the following SYN

But in fact, this blackhole was detected if any following SYN
retransmissions after a fallback to TCP was accepted.
That's because 'mptcp_subflow_early_fallback()' will set 'request_mptcp'
to 0, and 'mpc_drop' will never be reset to 0 after.
This is an issue, because some not so unusual situations might cause the
kernel to detect a false-positive blackhole, e.g. a client trying to
connect to a server while the network is not ready yet, causing a few
SYN retransmissions, before reaching the end server.

The root cause is the bad handling of disconnect() generated internally
by the MPTCP protocol in case of connect FASTOPEN errors.
Address the issue increasing the socket disconnect counter even on such
a case, to allow other threads waiting on the same socket lock to
properly error out.

With the in-kernel path-manager, it is possible to change the 'fullmesh'
flag. The code in mptcp_pm_nl_fullmesh() expects to change it only on
'subflow' endpoints, to recreate more or less subflows using the linked
address.
Unfortunately, the set_flags() hook was a bit more permissive, and
allowed 'implicit' endpoints to get the 'fullmesh' flag while it is not
allowed before.
That's what syzbot found, triggering the following warning:

Here, syzbot managed to set the 'fullmesh' flag on an 'implicit' and
used -- according to 'id_avail_bitmap' -- endpoint, causing the PM to
try decrement the local_addr_used counter which is only incremented for
the 'subflow' endpoint.
Note that 'no type' endpoints -- not 'subflow', 'signal', 'implicit' --
are fine, because their ID will not be marked as used in the 'id_avail'
bitmap, and setting 'fullmesh' can help forcing the creation of subflow
when receiving an ADD_ADDR.

MPTCP maintains the received sub-options status is the bitmask carrying
the received suboptions and in several bitfields carrying per suboption
additional info.
Zeroing the bitmask before parsing is not enough to ensure a consistent
status, and the MPTCP code has to additionally clear some bitfiled
depending on the actually parsed suboption.
The above schema is fragile, and syzbot managed to trigger a path where

The current schema is too fragile; address the issue grouping all the
state-related data together and clearing the whole group instead of
just the bitmask. This also cleans-up the code a bit, as there is no
need to individually clear "random" bitfield in a couple of places
any more.

The number of SYN + MPC retransmissions before falling back to TCP was
fixed to 2. This is certainly a good default value, but having a fixed
number can be a problem in some environments.
The current behaviour means that if all packets are dropped, there will
be:
- The initial SYN + MPC
- 2 retransmissions with MPC
- The next ones will be without MPTCP.
So typically ~3 seconds before falling back to TCP. In some networks
where some temporally blackholes are unfortunately frequent, or when a
client tries to initiate connections while the network is not ready yet,
this can cause new connections not to have MPTCP connections.
In such environments, it is now possible to increase the number of SYN
retransmissions with MPTCP options to make sure MPTCP is used.
Interesting values are:
- 0: the first retransmission will be done without MPTCP options: quite
aggressive, but also a higher risk of detecting false-positive
MPTCP blackholes.
- >= 128: all SYN retransmissions will keep the MPTCP options: back to
the < 6.12 behaviour.
The default behaviour is not changed here.

introduced a bug in mptcp_pm_nl_subflow_destroy_doit().
ipv6_addr_set_v4mapped() should be called to set the remote ipv4 address
'addr_r.addr.s_addr' to the remote ipv6 address 'addr_r.addr6', not
'addr_l.addr.addr6', which is the local ipv6 address.

The wake-up condition currently implemented by mptcp_epollin_ready()
is wrong, as it could mark the MPTCP socket as readable even when
no data are present and the system is under memory pressure.
Explicitly check for some data being available in the receive queue.

mptcp_cleanup_rbuf() is responsible to send acks when the user-space
reads enough data to update the receive windows significantly.
It tries hard to avoid acquiring the subflow sockets locks by checking
conditions similar to the ones implemented at the TCP level.
To avoid too much code duplication - the MPTCP protocol can't reuse the
TCP helpers as part of the relevant status is maintained into the msk
socket - and multiple costly window size computation, mptcp_cleanup_rbuf
uses a rough estimate for the most recently advertised window size:
the MPTCP receive free space, as recorded as at last-ack time.
Unfortunately the above does not allow mptcp_cleanup_rbuf() to detect
a zero to non-zero win change in some corner cases, skipping the
tcp_cleanup_rbuf call and leaving the peer stuck.
After commit ea66758c1795 ("tcp: allow MPTCP to update the announced
window"), MPTCP has actually cheap access to the announced window value.
Use it in mptcp_cleanup_rbuf() for a more accurate ack generation.

init_dummy_netdev() can initialize statically declared or embedded
net_devices. Such netdevs did not come from alloc_netdev_mqs().
After recent work by Breno, there are the only two cases where
we have do that.
Switch those cases to alloc_netdev_mqs() and delete init_dummy_netdev().
Dealing with static netdevs is not worth the maintenance burden.

As mentioned in the previous commit, using the 'net' structure via
'current' is not recommended for different reasons:
- Inconsistency: getting info from the reader's/writer's netns vs only
from the opener's netns.
- current->nsproxy can be NULL in some cases, resulting in an 'Oops'
(null-ptr-deref), e.g. when the current task is exiting, as spotted by
syzbot [1] using acct(2).
The 'pernet' structure can be obtained from the table->data using
container_of().

Using the 'net' structure via 'current' is not recommended for different
reasons.
First, if the goal is to use it to read or write per-netns data, this is
inconsistent with how the "generic" sysctl entries are doing: directly
by only using pointers set to the table entry, e.g. table->data. Linked
to that, the per-netns data should always be obtained from the table
linked to the netns it had been created for, which may not coincide with
the reader's or writer's netns.
Another reason is that access to current->nsproxy->netns can oops if
attempted when current->nsproxy had been dropped when the current task
is exiting. This is what syzbot found, when using acct(2):

Here with 'net.mptcp.scheduler', the 'net' structure is not really
needed, because the table->data already has a pointer to the current
scheduler, the only thing needed from the per-netns data.
Simply use 'data', instead of getting (most of the time) the same thing,
but from a longer and indirect way.

'net.mptcp.available_schedulers' sysctl knob is there to list available
schedulers, not to modify this list.
There are then no reasons to give write access to it.
Nothing would have been written anyway, but no errors would have been
returned, which is unexpected.

Currently the skb size after coalescing is only limited by the skb
layout (the skb must not carry frag_list). A single coalesced skb
covering several MSS can potentially fill completely the receive
buffer. In such a case, the snd win will zero until the receive buffer
will be empty again, affecting tput badly.

Under some corner cases the MPTCP protocol can end-up invoking
mptcp_cleanup_rbuf() when no data has been copied, but such helper
assumes the opposite condition.
Explicitly drop such assumption and performs the costly call only
when strictly needed - before releasing the msk socket lock.

If the recvmsg() blocks after receiving some data - i.e. due to
SO_RCVLOWAT - the MPTCP code will attempt multiple times to
adjust the receive buffer size, wrongly accounting every time the
cumulative of received data - instead of accounting only for the
delta.
Address the issue moving mptcp_rcv_space_adjust just after the
data reception and passing it only the just received bytes.
This also removes an unneeded difference between the TCP and MPTCP
RX code path implementation.

Eric noted a probable shinfo->nr_frags corruption, which indeed
occurs.
The root cause is a buggy MPTCP option len computation in some
circumstances: the ADD_ADDR option should be mutually exclusive
with DSS since the blamed commit.
Still, mptcp_established_options_add_addr() tries to set the
relevant info in mptcp_out_options, if the remaining space is
large enough even when DSS is present.
Since the ADD_ADDR infos and the DSS share the same union
fields, adding first corrupts the latter. In the worst-case
scenario, such corruption increases the DSS binary layout,
exceeding the computed length and possibly overwriting the
skb shared info.
Address the issue by enforcing mutual exclusion in
mptcp_established_options_add_addr(), too.

Upon successful return, mptcp_pm_parse_addr() returns 0. There is no need
to set "err = 0" after this. So after mptcp_nl_find_ssk() returns, just
need to set "err = -ESRCH", then release and free msk socket if it returns
NULL.
Also, no need to define the variable "subflow" in subflow_destroy(), use
mptcp_subflow_ctx(ssk) directly.
This patch doesn't change the behaviour of the code, just refactoring.

Generally, in the path manager interfaces, the local address is defined as
an mptcp_pm_addr_entry type address, while the remote address is defined as
an mptcp_addr_info type one:
(struct mptcp_pm_addr_entry *local, struct mptcp_addr_info *remote)
But subflow_destroy() interface uses two mptcp_addr_info type parameters.
This patch changes the first one to mptcp_pm_addr_entry type and use helper
mptcp_pm_parse_entry() to parse it instead of using mptcp_pm_parse_addr().
This patch doesn't change the behaviour of the code, just refactoring.

mptcp_pm_remove_addrs() actually only deletes one address, which does
not match its name. This patch renames it to mptcp_pm_remove_addr_entry()
and changes the parameter "rm_list" to "entry".
With the help of mptcp_pm_remove_addr_entry(), it's no longer necessary to
move the entry to be deleted to free_list and then traverse the list to
delete the entry, which is not allowed in BPF. The entry can be directly
deleted through list_del_rcu() and sock_kfree_s() now.

Since mptcp_pm_remove_addrs() is only called from the userspace PM, this
patch moves it into pm_userspace.c.
For this, lookup_subflow_by_saddr() and remove_anno_list_by_saddr()
helpers need to be exported in protocol.h. Also add "mptcp_" prefix for
these helpers.
Here, mptcp_pm_remove_addrs() is not changed to a static function because
it will be used in BPF Path Manager.
This patch doesn't change the behaviour of the code, just refactoring.

Each userspace pm netlink function uses nla_get_u32() to get the msk
token value, then pass it to mptcp_token_get_sock() to get the msk.
Finally check whether userspace PM is selected on this msk. It makes
sense to wrap them into a helper, named mptcp_userspace_pm_get_sock(),
to do this.
This patch doesn't change the behaviour of the code, just refactoring.

Like __lookup_addr() helper in pm_netlink.c, a new helper
mptcp_userspace_pm_lookup_addr() is also defined in pm_userspace.c.
It looks up the corresponding mptcp_pm_addr_entry address in
userspace_pm_local_addr_list through the passed "addr" parameter
and returns the found address entry.
This helper can be used in mptcp_userspace_pm_delete_local_addr(),
mptcp_userspace_pm_set_flags(), mptcp_userspace_pm_get_local_id()
and mptcp_userspace_pm_is_backup() to simplify the code.
Please note that with this change now list_for_each_entry() is used in
mptcp_userspace_pm_append_new_local_addr(), not list_for_each_entry_safe(),
but that's OK to do so because mptcp_userspace_pm_lookup_addr() only
returns an entry from the list, the list hasn't been modified here.

To return an endpoint to the userspace via Netlink, and to dump all of
them, the endpoint list was iterated while holding the pernet->lock, but
only to read the content of the list.
In these cases, the spin locks can be replaced by RCU read ones, and use
the _rcu variants to iterate over the entries list in a lockless way.
Note that the __lookup_addr_by_id() helper has been modified to use the
_rcu variants of list_for_each_entry(), but with an extra conditions, so
it can be called either while the RCU read lock is held, or when the
associated pernet->lock is held.

In mptcp_pm_create_subflow_or_signal_addr(), rcu_read_(un)lock() are
used as expected to iterate over the list of local addresses, but
list_for_each_entry() was used instead of list_for_each_entry_rcu() in
__lookup_addr(). It is important to use this variant which adds the
required READ_ONCE() (and diagnostic checks if enabled).
Because __lookup_addr() is also used in mptcp_pm_nl_set_flags() where it
is called under the pernet->lock and not rcu_read_lock(), an extra
condition is then passed to help the diagnostic checks making sure
either the associated spin lock or the RCU lock is held.

When traversing userspace_pm_local_addr_list and deleting an entry from
it in mptcp_pm_nl_remove_doit(), msk->pm.lock should be held.
This patch holds this lock before mptcp_userspace_pm_lookup_addr_by_id()
and releases it after list_move() in mptcp_pm_nl_remove_doit().

Just like in-kernel pm, when userspace pm does set_flags, it needs to send
out MP_PRIO signal, and also modify the flags of the corresponding address
entry in the local address list. This patch implements the missing logic.
Traverse all address entries on userspace_pm_local_addr_list to find the
local address entry, if bkup is true, set the flags of this entry with
FLAG_BACKUP, otherwise, clear FLAG_BACKUP.

Additional active subflows - i.e. created by the in kernel path
manager - are included into the subflow list before starting the
3whs.
A racing recvmsg() spooling data received on an already established
subflow would unconditionally call tcp_cleanup_rbuf() on all the
current subflows, potentially hitting a divide by zero error on
the newly created ones.
Explicitly check that the subflow is in a suitable state before
invoking tcp_cleanup_rbuf().

The root cause is the current bad handling of racing disconnect.
After the blamed commit below, sk_wait_data() can return (with
error) with the underlying socket disconnected and a zero rcv_mss.
Catch the error and return without performing any additional
operations on the current socket.

mptcp_get_available_schedulers() needs to iterate over the schedulers'
list only to read the names: it doesn't modify anything there.
In this case, it is enough to hold the RCU read lock, no need to combine
this with the associated spin lock as it was done since its introduction
in commit 73c900aa3660 ("mptcp: add net.mptcp.available_schedulers").

The local address entries on userspace_pm_local_addr_list are allocated
by sock_kmalloc().
It's then required to use sock_kfree_s() instead of kfree() to free
these entries in order to adjust the allocated size on the sk side.

During the switch to YNL, the command to list all endpoints has been
accidentally restricted to users with admin permissions.
It looks like there are no reasons to have this restriction which makes
it harder for a user to quickly check if the endpoint list has been
correctly populated by an automated tool. Best to go back to the
previous behaviour then.
mptcp_pm_gen.c has been modified using ynl-gen-c.py:
$ ./tools/net/ynl/ynl-gen-c.py --mode kernel \
--spec Documentation/netlink/specs/mptcp_pm.yaml --source \
-o net/mptcp/mptcp_pm_gen.c
The header file doesn't need to be regenerated.

RFC8684 suggests use of "Middlebox interference (code 0x06)" in case of
fully established subflow that carries data at TCP level with no DSS
sub-option.
This is generally the case when mpext is NULL or mpext->use_map is 0:
use a dedicated value of 'mapping_status' and use it before closing the
socket in subflow_check_data_avail().

The MPTCP path manager event handler mptcp_pm_connection_closed
interface has been added in the commit 1b1c7a0ef7f3 ("mptcp: Add path
manager interface") but it was an empty function from then on.
With such name, it sounds good to invoke mptcp_event with the
MPTCP_EVENT_CLOSED event type from it. It also removes a bit of
duplicated code.

We introduce the same handling for potential data races with the
'fully_established' flag in subflow as previously done for
msk->fully_established.
Additionally, we make a crucial change: convert the subflow's
'fully_established' from 'bit_field' to 'bool' type. This is
necessary because methods for avoiding data races don't work well
with 'bit_field'. Specifically, the 'READ_ONCE' needs to know
the size of the variable being accessed, which is not supported in
'bit_field'. Also, 'test_bit' expect the address of 'bit_field'.

If the subflow is considered as "staled", it is better to avoid it to
send an ACK carrying an ADD_ADDR or RM_ADDR. Another subflow, if any,
will then be selected.

That's because when the socket is initialised, rcu_read_lock() is not

Change ynl-gen-c.py to use NLA_BE16 and NLA_BE32 types to represent
big-endian u16 and u32 ynl types.
Doing this enables those attributes to have range checks applied, as
the validator will then convert to host endianness prior to validation.
The autogenerated kernel/uapi code have been regenerated by running:
./tools/net/ynl/ynl-regen.sh -f
This changes the policy types of the following attributes:
FOU_ATTR_PORT (NLA_U16 -> NLA_BE16)
FOU_ATTR_PEER_PORT (NLA_U16 -> NLA_BE16)
These two are used with nla_get_be16/nla_put_be16().
MPTCP_PM_ADDR_ATTR_ADDR4 (NLA_U32 -> NLA_BE32)
This one is used with nla_get_in_addr/nla_put_in_addr(),
which uses nla_get_be32/nla_put_be32().
IOWs the generated changes are AFAICT aligned with their implementations.
The generated userspace code remains identical, and have been verified
by comparing the output generated by the following command:
make -C tools/net/ynl/generated

That's because 'subflow' is used just after 'mptcp_close_ssk(subflow)',
which will initiate the release of its memory. Even if it is very likely
the release and the re-utilisation will be done later on, it is of
course better to avoid any issues and read the content of 'subflow'
before closing it.

As noted by Cong Wang, the splat is false positive, but the code
path leading to the report is an unexpected one: a client is
attempting an MPC handshake towards the in-kernel listener created
by the in-kernel PM for a port based signal endpoint.
Such connection will be never accepted; many of them can make the
listener queue full and preventing the creation of MPJ subflow via
such listener - its intended role.
Explicitly detect this scenario at initial-syn time and drop the
incoming MPC request.
