2015-05-14tipc: simplify include dependenciesJon Paul Maloy
When we try to add new inline functions in the code, we sometimes run into circular include dependencies. The main problem is that the file core.h, which really should be at the root of the dependency chain, instead is a leaf. I.e., core.h includes a number of header files that themselves should be allowed to include core.h. In reality this is unnecessary, because core.h does not need to know the full signature of any of the structs it refers to, only their type declaration. In this commit, we remove all dependencies from core.h towards any other tipc header file. As a consequence of this change, we can now move the function tipc_own_addr(net) from addr.c to addr.h, and make it inline. There are no functional changes in this commit. 2015-01-12tipc: make tipc node address support net namespaceYing Xue
If net namespace is supported in tipc, each namespace will be treated as a separate tipc node. Therefore, every namespace must own its private tipc node address. This means the "tipc_own_addr" global variable of node address must be moved to tipc_net structure to satisfy the requirement. It's turned out that users also can assign node address for every namespace. 2015-01-12tipc: name tipc name table support net namespaceYing Xue
TIPC name table is used to store the mapping relationship between TIPC service name and socket port ID. When tipc supports namespace, it allows users to publish service names only owned by a certain namespace. Therefore, every namespace must have its private name table to prevent service names published to one namespace from being contaminated by other service names in another namespace. Therefore, The name table global variable (ie, nametbl) and its lock must be moved to tipc_net structure, and a parameter of namespace must be added for necessary functions so that they can obtain name table variable defined in tipc_net structure. 2015-01-12tipc: make tipc socket support net namespaceYing Xue
Now tipc socket table is statically allocated as a global variable. Through it, we can look up one socket instance with port ID, insert a new socket instance to the table, and delete a socket from the table. But when tipc supports net namespace, each namespace must own its specific socket table. So the global variable of socket table must be redefined in tipc_net structure. As a concequence, a new socket table will be allocated when a new namespace is created, and a socket table will be deallocated when namespace is destroyed. TIPC broadcast link is statically established and its relevant states are maintained with the global variables: "bcbearer", "bclink" and "bcl". 2015-01-12tipc: make bearer list support net namespaceYing Xue
Bearer list defined as a global variable is used to store bearer instances. When tipc supports net namespace, bearers created in one namespace must be isolated with others allocated in other namespaces, which requires us that the bearer list(bearer_list) must be moved to tipc_net structure. As a result, a net namespace pointer has to be passed to functions which access the bearer list. 2015-01-12tipc: make tipc node table aware of net namespaceYing Xue
Global variables associated with node table are below: - node table list (node_htable) - node hash table list (tipc_node_list) - node table lock (node_list_lock) - node number counter (tipc_num_nodes) - node link number counter (tipc_num_links) To make node table support namespace, above global variables must be moved to tipc_net structure in order to keep secret for different namespaces. As a consequence, these variables are allocated and initialized when namespace is created, and deallocated when namespace is destroyed. After the change, functions associated with these variables have to utilize a namespace pointer to access them. So adding namespace pointer as a parameter of these functions is the major change made in the commit. 2014-08-23tipc: use registry when scanning socketsJon Paul Maloy
The functions tipc_port_get_ports() and tipc_port_reinit() scan over all sockets/ports to access each of them. This is done by using a dedicated linked list, 'tipc_socks' where all sockets are members. The list is in turn protected by a spinlock, 'port_list_lock', while each socket is locked by using port_lock at the moment of access. In order to reduce complexity and risk of deadlock, we want to get rid of the linked list and the accompanying spinlock. This is what we do in this commit. Instead of the linked list, we use the port registry to scan across the sockets. We also add usage of bh_lock_sock() inside the scope of port_lock in both functions, as a preparation for the complete removal of port_lock. Finally, we move the functions from port.c to socket.c, and rename them to tipc_sk_sock_show() and tipc_sk_reinit() repectively. 2014-06-27tipc: introduce message evaluation functionJon Paul Maloy
When a message arrives in a node and finds no destination socket, we may need to drop it, reject it, or forward it after a secondary destination lookup. The latter two cases currently results in a code path that is perceived as complex, because it follows a deep call chain via obscure functions such as net_route_named_msg() and net_route_msg(). We now introduce a function, tipc_msg_eval(), that takes the decision about whether such a message should be rejected or forwarded, but leaves it to the caller to actually perform the indicated action. If the decision is 'reject', it is still the task of the recently introduced function tipc_msg_reverse() to take the final decision about whether the message is rejectable or not. In the latter case it drops the message. As a result of this change, we can finally eliminate the function net_route_named_msg(), and hence become independent of net_route_msg(). 2014-04-22tipc: purge tipc_net_lock lockYing Xue
Now tipc routing hierarchy comprises the structures 'node', 'link'and 'bearer'. The whole hierarchy is protected by a big read/write lock, tipc_net_lock, to ensure that nothing is added or removed while code is accessing any of these structures. Obviously the locking policy makes node, link and bearer components closely bound together so that their relationship becomes unnecessarily complex. In the worst case, such locking policy not only has a negative influence on performance, but also it's prone to lead to deadlock occasionally. In order o decouple the complex relationship between bearer and node as well as link, the locking policy is adjusted as follows: - Bearer level RTNL lock is used on update side, and RCU is used on read side. Meanwhile, all bearer instances including broadcast bearer are saved into bearer_list array. - Node and link level All node instances are saved into two tipc_node_list and node_htable lists. The two lists are protected by node_list_lock on write side, and they are guarded with RCU lock on read side. All members in node structure including link instances are protected by node spin lock. - The relationship between bearer and node When link accesses bearer, it first needs to find the bearer with its bearer identity from the bearer_list array. When bearer accesses node, it can iterate the node_htable hash list with the node address to find the corresponding node. In the new locking policy, every component has its private locking solution and the relationship between bearer and node is very simple, that is, they can find each other with node address or bearer identity from node_htable hash list or bearer_list array. Until now above all changes have been done, so tipc_net_lock can be removed safely. 2014-04-03tipc: fix regression bug where node events are not being generatedErik Hugne
Commit 5902385a2440a55f005b266c93e0bb9398e5a62b ("tipc: obsolete the remote management feature") introduces a regression where node topology events are not being generated because the publication that triggers this: {0, <z.c.n>, <z.c.n>} is no longer available. This will break applications that rely on node events to discover when nodes join/leave a cluster. We fix this by advertising the node publication when TIPC enters networking mode, and withdraws it upon shutdown. 2014-03-27tipc: rename node create lock to protect node list and hlistYing Xue
When a node is created, tipc_net_lock read lock is first held and then node_create_lock is grabbed in order to prevent the same node from being created and inserted into both node list and hlist twice. But when we query node from the two node lists, we only hold tipc_net_lock read lock without grabbing node_create_lock. Obviously this locking policy is unable to guarantee that the two node lists are always synchronized especially when the operation of changing and accessing them occurs in different contexts like currently doing. Therefore, rename node_create_lock to node_list_lock to protect the two node lists, that is, whenever node is inserted into them or node is queried from them, the node_list_lock should be always held. As a result, tipc_net_lock read lock becomes redundant and then can be removed from the node query functions. 2012-04-26tipc: Enhance re-initialization of network topology serviceAllan Stephens
Streamlines the job of re-initializing TIPC's network topology service when a node's network address is first assigned. Rather than destroying the topology server port and breaking its connections to existing subscribers, TIPC now simply lets the service continue running (since the change to the port identifier of each port used by the topology service no longer impacts the flow of messages between the service and its subscribers). This enhancement means that applications that utilize the topology service prior to the assignment of TIPC's network address no longer need to re-establish their subscriptions when the address is finally assigned. However, it is worth noting that any subsequent events for existing subscriptions report the new port identifier of the publishing port, rather than the original port identifier. (For example, a name that was previously reported as being published by <0.0.0:ref> may be subsequently withdrawn by <Z.C.N:ref>.) This doesn't impact any of the existing known userspace in tipc-utils, since (a) TIPC continues to treat references to the original port ID correctly and (b) normal use cases assign an address before active use. However if there does happen to be some rare/custom application out there that was relying on this, they can simply bypass the enhancement by issuing a subscription to {0,0} and break its connection to the topology service, if an associated withdrawal event occurs. 2011-03-13tipc: Convert node object array to a hash tableAllan Stephens
Replaces the dynamically allocated array of pointers to the cluster's node objects with a static hash table. Hash collisions are resolved using chaining, with a typical hash chain having only a single node, to avoid degrading performance during processing of incoming packets. The conversion to a hash table reduces the memory requirements for TIPC's node table to approximately the same size it had prior to the previous commit. In addition to the hash table itself, TIPC now also maintains a linked list for the node objects, sorted by ascending network address. This list allows TIPC to continue sending responses to user space applications that request node and link information in sorted order. The list also improves performance when name table update messages are sent by making it easier to identify the nodes that must be notified. 2011-03-13tipc: Eliminate configuration for maximum number of cluster nodesAllan Stephens
Gets rid of the need for users to specify the maximum number of cluster nodes supported by TIPC. TIPC now automatically provides support for all 4K nodes allowed by its addressing scheme. Note: This change sets TIPC's memory usage to the amount used by a maximum size node table with 4K entries. An upcoming patch that converts the node table from a linear array to a hash table will compact the node table to a more efficient design, but for clarity it is nice to have all the Kconfig infrastruture go away separately. 2011-03-13tipc: Split up unified structure of network-related variablesAllan Stephens
Converts the fields of the global "tipc_net" structure into individual variables. Since the struct was never referenced as a complete unit, its existence was pointless. This will facilitate upcoming changes to TIPC's node table and simpify upcoming relocation of the variables so they are only visible to the files that actually use them. This change is essentially cosmetic in nature, and doesn't affect the operation of TIPC. 2011-03-13tipc: Fix problem with missing link in "tipc-config -l" outputAllan Stephens
Removes a race condition that could cause TIPC's internal counter of the number of links it has to neighboring nodes to have the incorrect value if two independent threads of control simultaneously create new link endpoints connecting to two different nodes using two different bearers. Such under counting would result in TIPC failing to list the final link(s) in its response to a configuration request to list all of the node's links. The counter is now updated atomically to ensure that simultaneous increments do not interfere with each other. Thanks go to Peter Butler <pbutler@pt.com> for his assistance in diagnosing and fixing this problem. 2011-01-01tipc: Remove prototype code for supporting multiple clustersAllan Stephens
Eliminates routines, data structures, and files that were intended to allow TIPC to support a network containing multiple clusters. Currently, TIPC supports only networks consisting of a single cluster within a single zone, so this code is unnecessary. 2010-10-13tipc: clean out all instances of #if 0'd unused codePaul Gortmaker
Remove all instances of legacy, or as yet to be implemented code that is currently living within an #if 0 ... #endif block. In the rare instance that some of it be needed in the future, it can still be dragged out of history, but there is no need for it to sit in mainline. 2010-09-09tipc: Optimize handling excess content on incoming messagesPaul Gortmaker
Remove code that trimmed excess trailing info from incoming messages arriving over an Ethernet interface. TIPC now ignores the extra info while the message is being processed by the node, and only trims it off if the message is retransmitted to another node. (This latter step is done to ensure the extra info doesn't cause the sk_buff to exceed the outgoing interface's MTU limit.) The outgoing buffer is guaranteed to be linear. 2010-05-12tipc: add tipc_ prefix to fcns targeted for un-inliningAllan Stephens
These functions have enough code in them such that they seem like sensible targets for un-inlining. Prior to doing that, this adds the tipc_ prefix to the functions, so that in the event of a panic dump or similar, the subsystem from which the functions come from is immediately clear.
