2023-05-26ARM: pxa: fix missing-prototypes warningsArnd Bergmann
The PXA platform has a number of configurations that end up with a warning like these when building with W=1: drivers/hwmon/max1111.c:83:5: error: no previous prototype for 'max1111_read_channel' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm/mach-pxa/reset.c:86:6: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa_restart' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm/mach-pxa/mfp-pxa2xx.c:254:5: error: no previous prototype for 'keypad_set_wake' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] drivers/clk/pxa/clk-pxa25x.c:70:14: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa25x_get_clk_frequency_khz' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] drivers/clk/pxa/clk-pxa25x.c:325:12: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa25x_clocks_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] drivers/clk/pxa/clk-pxa27x.c:74:14: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa27x_get_clk_frequency_khz' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] drivers/clk/pxa/clk-pxa27x.c:102:6: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa27x_is_ppll_disabled' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] drivers/clk/pxa/clk-pxa27x.c:470:12: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa27x_clocks_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm/mach-pxa/pxa27x.c:44:6: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa27x_clear_otgph' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm/mach-pxa/pxa27x.c:58:6: error: no previous prototype for 'pxa27x_configure_ac97reset' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] arch/arm/mach-pxa/spitz_pm.c:170:15: error: no previous prototype for 'spitzpm_read_devdata' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] The problem is that there is a declaration for each of these, but it's only seen by the caller and not the callee. Moving these into appropriate header files ensures that both use the same calling conventions and it avoids the warnings. 2023-03-20ALSA: pxa2xx: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-05-07ASoC: pxa: ac97: use normal MMIO accessorsArnd Bergmann
To avoid dereferencing hardwired constant pointers from a global header file, change the driver to use devm_platform_ioremap_resource for getting an __iomem pointer, and then using readl/writel on that. Each pointer dereference gets changed by a search&replace, which leads to a few overlong lines, but seems less risky than trying to clean up the code at the same time. 2022-04-19ARM: pxa: pxa2xx-ac97-lib: use IRQ resourceArnd Bergmann
The pxa2xx-ac97-lib code is the last driver to use mach/irqs.h for PXA. Almost everything already passes the interrupt as a resource, so use it from there. The one exception is the mxm8x10 machine, which apparently has a resource-less device. Replacing it with the correct one enables the driver here as well. 2022-04-19ARM: pxa: split up mach/hardware.hArnd Bergmann
The mach/hardware.h is included in lots of places, and it provides three different things on pxa: - the cpu_is_pxa* macros - an indirect inclusion of mach/addr-map.h - the __REG() and io_pv2() helper macros Split it up into separate <linux/soc/pxa/cpu.h> and mach/pxa-regs.h headers, then change all the files that use mach/hardware.h to include the exact set of those three headers that they actually need, allowing for further more targeted cleanup. linux/soc/pxa/cpu.h can remain permanently exported and is now in a global location along with similar headers. pxa-regs.h and addr-map.h are only used in a very small number of drivers now and can be moved to arch/arm/mach-pxa/ directly when those drivers are to pass the necessary data as resources. 2021-02-02amba: Make the remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König
All amba drivers return 0 in their remove callback. Together with the driver core ignoring the return value anyhow, it doesn't make sense to return a value here. Change the remove prototype to return void, which makes it explicit that returning an error value doesn't work as expected. This simplifies changing the core remove callback to return void, too. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-08-01ALSA: arm: Fix empty menuconfig SND_ARMEugeniu Rosca
commit 3c8f7710c1c4 ("ASoC: fix broken pxa SoC support") has removed the SND_ARM dependency from SND_PXA2XX_LIB and SND_PXA2XX_LIB_AC97, by moving these config entries outside of the "if SND_ARM ... endif" construct. However, by placing these 2 symbols right between the SND_ARM menuconfig definition and the first SND_ARM menu entry, the side effect is that the SND_ARM menu becomes empty and all the config entries caught between "if SND_ARM ... endif" no more belong to menuconfig SND_ARM, but to its parent (menuconfig SND). 2016-03-09dma, mm/pat: Rename dma_*_writecombine() to dma_*_wc()Luis R. Rodriguez
Rename dma_*_writecombine() to dma_*_wc(), so that the naming is coherent across the various write-combining APIs. Keep the old names for compatibility for a while, these can be removed at a later time. A guard is left to enable backporting of the rename, and later remove of the old mapping defines seemlessly. Build tested successfully with allmodconfig. The following Coccinelle SmPL patch was used for this simple transformation: @ rename_dma_alloc_writecombine @ expression dev, size, dma_addr, gfp; @@ -dma_alloc_writecombine(dev, size, dma_addr, gfp) +dma_alloc_wc(dev, size, dma_addr, gfp) @ rename_dma_free_writecombine @ expression dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr; @@ -dma_free_writecombine(dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr) +dma_free_wc(dev, size, cpu_addr, dma_addr) @ rename_dma_mmap_writecombine @ expression dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size; @@ -dma_mmap_writecombine(dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size) +dma_mmap_wc(dev, vma, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size) We also keep the old names as compatibility helpers, and guard against their definition to make backporting easier. 2015-09-16ASoC: fix broken pxa SoC supportRobert Jarzmik
The previous fix of pxa library support, which was introduced to fix the library dependency, broke the previous SoC behavior, where a machine code binding pxa2xx-ac97 with a coded relied on : - sound/soc/pxa/pxa2xx-ac97.c - sound/soc/codecs/XXX.c For example, the mioa701_wm9713.c machine code is currently broken. The "select ARM" statement wrongly selects the soc/arm/pxa2xx-ac97 for compilation, as per an unfortunate fate SND_PXA2XX_AC97 is both declared in sound/arm/Kconfig and sound/soc/pxa/Kconfig. Fix this by ensuring that SND_PXA2XX_SOC correctly triggers the correct pxa2xx-ac97 compilation. 2014-05-20ASoC: pxa: remove mach header dependencyArnd Bergmann
As we are moving the mmp platform towards multiplatform support, we have to stop including platform header files. This changes the pxa-ssp sound driver file to no longer depend on mach/hardware.h and mach/dma.h. The code using the definitions from those headers is actually gone already, the only thing that was still being used was the pxa_dma_desc typedef, which we can easily work around by using the normal 'struct pxa_dma_desc' name. The pxa2xx-dma driver still uses this header, so we include it explicitly there, which is ok because that is only used on pxa, not on mmp. 2013-11-14Merge branch 'for-linus-dma-masks' of git://git.linaro.org/people/rmk/linux-armLinus Torvalds
Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King: "This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers, fixing some bugs as we go. Some of the more serious errors include: - drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to set the streaming mask fails. - drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section - which will cause problems if the module is reloaded. To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions: - dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct error handling as specified by the API. - dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for future work to further clean these locations up - the code which creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix that in one go along with this change could potentially be very disruptive. The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were ignored. Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux architecture as far as those go" * 'for-linus-dma-masks' of git://git.linaro.org/people/rmk/linux-arm: (52 commits) ARM: 7805/1: mm: change max*pfn to include the physical offset of memory ARM: 7797/1: mmc: Use dma_max_pfn(dev) helper for bounce_limit calculations ARM: 7796/1: scsi: Use dma_max_pfn(dev) helper for bounce_limit calculations ARM: 7795/1: mm: dma-mapping: Add dma_max_pfn(dev) helper function ARM: 7794/1: block: Rename parameter dma_mask to max_addr for blk_queue_bounce_limit() ARM: DMA-API: better handing of DMA masks for coherent allocations ARM: 7857/1: dma: imx-sdma: setup dma mask DMA-API: firmware/google/gsmi.c: avoid direct access to DMA masks DMA-API: dcdbas: update DMA mask handing DMA-API: dma: edma.c: no need to explicitly initialize DMA masks DMA-API: usb: musb: use platform_device_register_full() to avoid directly messing with dma masks DMA-API: crypto: remove last references to 'static struct device *dev' DMA-API: crypto: fix ixp4xx crypto platform device support DMA-API: others: use dma_set_coherent_mask() DMA-API: staging: use dma_set_coherent_mask() DMA-API: usb: use new dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() DMA-API: usb: use dma_set_coherent_mask() DMA-API: parport: parport_pc.c: use dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() DMA-API: net: octeon: use dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() DMA-API: net: nxp/lpc_eth: use dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() ...
