2017-10-25locking/atomics: COCCINELLE/treewide: Convert trivial ACCESS_ONCE() patterns ↵Mark Rutland
to READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() Please do not apply this to mainline directly, instead please re-run the coccinelle script shown below and apply its output. For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't harmful, and changing them results in churn. However, for some features, the read/write distinction is critical to correct operation. To distinguish these cases, separate read/write accessors must be used. 2017-06-07ALSA: firewire: process packets in 'struct snd_pcm_ops.ack' callbackTakashi Sakamoto
In recent commit for ALSA PCM core, some arrangement is done for 'struct snd_pcm_ops.ack' callback. This is called when appl_ptr is explicitly moved in intermediate buffer for PCM frames, except for some cases described later. For drivers in ALSA firewire stack, usage of this callback has a merit to reduce latency between time of PCM frame queueing and handling actual packets in recent isochronous cycle, because no need to wait for software IRQ context from isochronous context of OHCI 1394. If this works well in a case that mapped page frame is used for the intermediate buffer, user process should execute some commands for ioctl(2) to tell the number of handled PCM frames in the intermediate buffer just after handling them. Therefore, at present, with a combination of below conditions, this doesn't work as expected and user process should wait for the software IRQ context as usual: - when ALSA PCM core judges page frame mapping is available for status data (struct snd_pcm_mmap_status) and control data (struct snd_pcm_mmap_control). - user process handles PCM frames by loop just with 'snd_pcm_mmap_begin()' and 'snd_pcm_mmap_commit()'. - user process uses PCM hw plugin in alsa-lib to operate I/O without 'sync_ptr_ioctl' option. 2017-05-22ALSA: firewire: remove support for 16 bit PCM samples in playback substreamTakashi Sakamoto
In IEC 61883-6, AM824 is described as format of data block. In this format, one data block consists of several data channels, which is aligned to 32 bit. One data channel has 8 bit label field and 24 bit data field. PCM frames are transferred in Multi Bit Linear Audio (MBLA) data channel. This channel can include 16/20/24 bit PCM sample. As long as I know, models which support IEC 61883-1/6 doesn't allow to switch bit length of PCM sample in MBLA data channel. They always transmit/receive PCM frames of 24 bit length. This can be seen for the other models which support protocols similar to IEC 61883-1/6. On the other hand, current drivers for these protocols supports 16 bit length PCM sample in playback substream. In this case, PCM sample is put into the MBLA data channel with 8 bit padding in LSB side. Although 16 bit PCM sample is major because it's in CD format, this doesn't represent device capability as is. This commit removes support for 16 bit PCM samples in playback substream. 2017-04-05ALSA: oxfw: fix regression to handle Stanton SCS.1m/1dTakashi Sakamoto
At a commit 6c29230e2a5f ("ALSA: oxfw: delayed registration of sound card"), ALSA oxfw driver fails to handle SCS.1m/1d, due to -EBUSY at a call of snd_card_register(). The cause is that the driver manages to register two rawmidi instances with the same device number 0. This is a regression introduced since kernel 4.7. This commit fixes the regression, by fixing up device property after discovering stream formats. As of kernel 4.10, ALSA OXFW driver has no entry for Onyx 1640i produced by Mackie (Loud Technologies). This commit supplement it. I note that there're two models produced by Mackie (Loud Technologies), which have the same name 'Onyx 1640i'. The former model based on OXFW970, the latter model based on Dice. This is probably due to low quality of communication of OXFW series. Additionally, the tester reports his or her experiences to get unexpected result at higher sampling transmission frequency as 88.2/96.0 kHz. In former commit, drivers in ALSA firewire stack always starts IT context before IR context. If IR context starts after packets are transmitted by peer unit, packet discontinuity may be detected because the context starts in the middle of packet streaming. This situation is rare because IT context usually starts immediately. However, it's better to solve this issue. This is suppressed with CIP_SKIP_INIT_DBC_CHECK flag. 2016-02-24ALSA: oxfw: discontinue MIDI substream for scs1x at transaction failureTakashi Sakamoto
With a previous commit, ALSA oxfw driver retries transferring MIDI messages at transaction failure for scs1x. On the other hand, there're fatal transaction error. Then, no MIDI messages reach to the unit anymore. In this case, MIDI substream should be terminated. This commit stops MIDI transmission after the fatal error occurs. Unfortunately, unlike ALSA PCM functionality, ALSA rawmidi core has no feature to discontinue MIDI substream runtime in kernel side, thus this commit just stops MIDI transmission without notifying it to userspace. Currently, ALSA oxfw driver has a TODO to retry MIDI transferring at transaction failure. This commit achieves it. Current implementation uses snd_rawmidi_transmit() to transfer messages, thus the target MIDI messages are not in buffer when transaction failure is detected. Although we cannot use a pair of snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_ramwidi_transmit_ack(), the messages are still in scs1x specific structure and the data is available for retries. This commit adds a member to the structure for the length of buffered messages, and uses the value again at retries. This commit replaces tasklet with workqueue for scs1x functionality of ALSA oxfw driver. This driver transfers MIDI message specific for SCS.1m and SCS.1d. This task is currently done in software IRQ context of tasklet. In a view of system, this context is limited resources and some important drivers (at least, more important than ALSA oxfw driver) use the context as its bottom-harf. If the work to transfer MIDI messages is done within a time, it's better to use the other context for the work. Actually, with recent CPUs, the work will be scheduled within a time. 2015-12-22ALSA: oxfw: add stream format quirk for SCS.1 modelsTakashi Sakamoto
As long as I investigate SCS.1m, this model reports to transfer/receive PCM data channels/MIDI conformant data channels in tx/rx AMDTP packet. There's a contradiction that this model actually has no analog/digital capture port for PCM frames and no physical MIDI ports. I guess that SCS.1d also has the contradiction. This model has no analog/digital ports for PCM frames and no physical MIDI ports, thus it requires no streaming functionality. This commit adds some modification codes to handle the contradiction, as much as possible. Unfortunately, this module adds one PCM playback substream for SCS.1d so as SCS.1m. 2015-12-22ALSA: oxfw: obsolete scs1x moduleTakashi Sakamoto
Now ALSA oxfw driver gains functionalities which scs1x module has. This commit obsoletes the scs1x module, and adds a line of MODULE_ALIAS to load oxfw module instead of scs1x module. In scs1x module, the name of 'shortname' field is fixed as 'SCS1x'. This field is used to name MIDI ports for both of SCS.1m and SCS.1d. This is not good because typically some SCS.1m and SCS.1d are used in the same system. It's better to distinguish them according to name of the ports. This commit applies model name in config ROM to the 'shortname'. For the name of 'driver' and 'longname', this commit uses the same way applied to the other models. This change may not bring disadvantages to users because userspace applications use ALSA rawmidi or seq interface and these interfaces are not influenced by them directly. This commit copies some functions of asynchronous transactions for MIDI capture, to merge scs1x module. The features of payload in asynchronous transaction are: * System exclusive messages for SCS.1 are encoded without ID data. In this encoding scheme, 4 bits in LSB are available. The bits are squashed in payload byte. When physical controls on SCS.1 models are operated, the models transfer MIDI messages in asynchronous transactions on IEEE 1394 bus. The models have a register to have an address for the transactions, and drivers can register own address for this purpose. Stanton Controllers and Systems 1 (SCS.1) series is supported by ALSA scs1x driver. This driver just supports MIDI functionality. On the other hand, models in this series are based on OXFW971 and ALSA OXFW driver can support them. SCS.1 series has MIDI functionality to control its surface state such as LED lighting. When operating physical knobs and faders, the models generate MIDI messages. These MIDI messages are transferred by asynchronous transactions. These transactions are really model-specific and ALSA OXFW driver requires the functionality so as scs1x module implements. The commands are not specific to OXFW, thus there's a possibility to use them in the other drivers. Currently, helper functions for the commands require 'struct snd_oxfw', although, it's not necessarily required. It's better to change prototype of the functions without the structure for future use. In ALSA firewire stack, drivers basically has no control elements. This is due to the fact that each model has own functionality even if they use the same communication chipset. Implementing all of the functionalities in kernel space unreasonably increases our efforts to maintain the stack. In most case, these functionalities can be implemented in userspace via Linux fw character devices. However, ALSA OXFW driver has control elements comes from old firewire-speakers driver. Adding the elements is in a file names as 'oxfw-control.c', while the elements are really model-specific. The name is confusing because it gives an idea to handle control elements for all of OXFW-based models. This commit renames the file so that it's just for models supported by old firewire-speakers driver. In IEC 61883-6, sequence multiplexing is applied to MIDI conformant data channel. As a result, eight MIDI data streams are included in the channel. Although ALSA AM824 data block processing layer implements this multiplexing, current OXFW driver doesn't utilize it due to wrong calculation of MIDI ports. This commit fixes this bug to add proper calculation. Although this commit allows to use 8 MIDI data streams, the number of available MIDI ports is limited by the number of ALSA MIDI ports added by the driver. The value of FDF field in CIP header is protocol-dependent. Thus, it's better to allow data block processing layer to decide the value in any timing. In AM824 data format, the value of FDF field in CIP header indicates N-flag and Nominal Sampling Frequency Code (sfc). The N-flag is for switching 'Clock-based rate control mode' and 'Command-based rate control mode'. In our implementation, 'Clock-based rate control mode' is just supported. Therefore, When sampling transfer frequency is decided, then the FDF can be set. This commit replaces 'amdtp_stream_set_parameters' with 'amdtp_am824_set_parameters' to set the FDF. This is the same timing to decide the ration between the number of data blocks and the number of PCM frames. 2015-09-29ALSA: firewire-lib: add an argument for Dice's dual wire modeTakashi Sakamoto
In IEC 61883-6, one data block represents one event. In ALSA, the event is one PCM frame. Therefore, when processing one data block, current implementation counts one PCM frame. On the other hand, Dice platform has a quirk called as 'dual wire' at higher sampling rate. In detail, see comment of commit 6eb6c81eee2a ("ALSA: dice: Split stream functionality into a file"). Currently, to handle this quirk, AMDTP stream structure has a 'double_pcm_frames' member. When this is enabled, two PCM frames are counted. Each driver set this flag by accessing the structure member directly. In future commit, some members related to AM824 data block will be moved to specific structure, to separate packet streaming layer and data block processing layer. The access will be limited by opaque pointer. For this reason, this commit adds an argument into amdtp_stream_set_parameter() to set the flag.
