2024-10-28tools headers: Update the linux/unaligned.h copy with the kernel sourcesArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
To pick up the changes in: 7f053812dab3946c ("random: vDSO: minimize and simplify header includes") That required adding a copy of include/vdso/unaligned.h and its checking in tools/perf/check-headers.h. 2024-10-02perf tools: Cope with differences for lib/list_sort.c copy from the kernelArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
With 6d74e1e371d43a7b ("tools/lib/list_sort: remove redundant code for cond_resched handling") we need to use the newly added hunk based exceptions when comparing the copy we carry in tools/lib/ to the original file, do it by adding the hunks that we know will be the expected diff. If at some point the original file is updated in other parts, then we should flag and check the file for update. 2024-10-02tools check_headers.sh: Add check variant that excludes some hunksArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
With 6d74e1e371d43a7b ("tools/lib/list_sort: remove redundant code for cond_resched handling") we end up with a multi-line variation in the merge_final() implementation, one that the simple line based exceptions we had so far can't cope. Thus this check has been failing: Warning: Kernel ABI header differences: diff -u tools/lib/list_sort.c lib/list_sort.c So add a new check routine that uses grep -vf to exclude some hunks that we store in the tools/perf/check-header_ignore_hunks/ directory. This first patch is just the new check routine, the next one will use it to check lib/list_sort.c. 2024-09-02perf tools: Build x86 32-bit syscall table from ↵Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
arch/x86/entry/syscalls/syscall_32.tbl To remove one more use of the audit libs and address a problem reported with a recent change where a function isn't available when using the audit libs method, that should really go away, this being one step in that direction. The script used to generate the 64-bit syscall table was already parametrized to generate for both 64-bit and 32-bit, so just use it and wire the generated table to the syscalltbl.c routines. Its just some macros going to an uapi header that we now have to grab a copy into tools/ as well. 2024-04-18Revert "tools headers: Remove almost unused copy of uapi/stat.h, add few ↵Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
conditional defines" This reverts commit a672af9139a843eb7a48fd7846bb6df8f81b5f86. By now it is not used for building tools/perf, but Stephen Rothwell reported that when building on a O= directory that had been built with torvalds/master and this perf build command line: $ make -C tools/perf -f Makefile.perf -s -O -j60 O=/home/sfr/next/perf NO_BPF_SKEL=1 If we then merge perf-tools-next, as he did for linux-next, then we end up with a build failure for libbpf: PERF_VERSION = 6.9.rc3.g42c4635c8dee make[3]: *** No rule to make target '/home/sfr/next/next/tools/include/uapi/linux/stat.h', needed by '/home/sfr/next/perf/libbpf/staticobjs/libbpf.o'. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/acme/linux Pull perf tool updates from Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo: "Third version of perf tool updates, with the build problems with with using a 'vmlinux.h' generated from the main build fixed, and the bpf skeleton build disabled by default. Build: - Require libtraceevent to build, one can disable it using NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1. It is required for tools like 'perf sched', 'perf kvm', 'perf trace', etc. libtraceevent is available in most distros so installing 'libtraceevent-devel' should be a one-time event to continue building perf as usual. Using NO_LIBTRACEEVENT=1 produces tooling that is functional and sufficient for lots of users not interested in those libtraceevent dependent features. - Allow Python support in 'perf script' when libtraceevent isn't linked, as not all features requires it, for instance Intel PT does not use tracepoints. - Error if the python interpreter needed for jevents to work isn't available and NO_JEVENTS=1 isn't set, preventing a build without support for JSON vendor events, which is a rare but possible condition. The two check error messages: $(error ERROR: No python interpreter needed for jevents generation. Install python or build with NO_JEVENTS=1.) $(error ERROR: Python interpreter needed for jevents generation too old (older than 3.6). Install a newer python or build with NO_JEVENTS=1.) - Make libbpf 1.0 the minimum required when building with out of tree, distro provided libbpf. - Use libsdtc++'s and LLVM's libcxx's __cxa_demangle, a portable C++ demangler, add 'perf test' entry for it. - Make binutils libraries opt in, as distros disable building with it due to licensing, they were used for C++ demangling, for instance. - Switch libpfm4 to opt-out rather than opt-in, if libpfm-devel (or equivalent) isn't installed, we'll just have a build warning: Makefile.config:1144: libpfm4 not found, disables libpfm4 support. 2021-09-10perf report: Add tools/arch/x86/include/asm/amd-ibs.hKim Phillips
This is a tools/-side patch for the patch that adds the original copy of the IBS header file, in arch/x86/include/asm/. We also add an entry to check-headers.sh, so future changes continue to be copied. Committer notes: Had to add this -#include <asm/msr-index.h> +#include "msr-index.h" And change the check-headers.sh entry to ignore this line when diffing with the original kernel header. This is needed so that we can use 'perf report' on a perf.data with IBS data on a !x86 system, i.e. building on ARM fails without this as there is no asm/msr-index.h there. This was done on the next patch in this series and is done for things like Intel PT and ARM CoreSight. That helps us not to lose new protocol families when they are introduced, replacing that hardcoded, dated family->string table. 2020-05-28perf tools: Grab a copy of libbpf's hashmapIan Rogers
Allow use of hashmap in perf. Modify perf's check-headers.sh script to check that the files are kept in sync, in the same way kernel headers are checked. This will warn if they are out of sync at the start of a perf build. Committer note: This starts out of synch as a fix went thru the bpf tree, namely the one removing the needless libbpf_internal.h include in hashmap.h. There is also another change related to __WORDSIZE, that as is in tools/lib/bpf/hashmap.h causes the tools/perf/ build to fail in systems such as Alpine Linus, that uses the Musl libc, so we need an alternative way of having __WORDSIZE available, use the one used by tools/include/linux/bitops.h, that builds in all the systems I have build containers for. These differences will be resolved at some point, so keep the warning in check-headers.sh as a reminder. Decode Xen and KVM's emulate-prefix signature by x86 insn decoder. It is called "prefix" but actually not x86 instruction prefix, so this adds insn.emulate_prefix_size field instead of reusing insn.prefixes. If x86 decoder finds a special sequence of instructions of XEN_EMULATE_PREFIX and 'ud2a; .ascii "kvm"', it just counts the length, set insn.emulate_prefix_size and fold it with the next instruction. 2019-08-31perf build: Ignore intentional differences for the x86 insn decoderArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
Since we need to build this in !x86, we need to explicitely use the x86 files, not things like asm/insn.h, so we intentionally differ from the master copy in the kernel sources, add -I diff directives to ignore just these differences when checking for drift.
