This makes 'perf top' abort in some cases, and the right fix will involve surgery that is too much to do at this stage, so revert for now and fix it in the next merge window. ASan reports a memory leak of nsinfo during the execution of # perf test "31: Lookup mmap thread" The leak is caused by a refcounted variable being replaced without dropping the refcount. This patch makes sure that the refcnt of nsinfo is decreased whenever a refcounted variable is replaced with a new value. 2020-10-13perf inject: Do not load map/dso when injecting build-idNamhyung Kim
No need to load symbols in a DSO when injecting build-id. I guess the reason was to check the DSO is a special file like anon files. Use some helper functions in map.c to check them before reading build-id. Also pass sample event's cpumode to a new build-id event. It brought a speedup in the benchmark of 25 -> 21 msec on my laptop. 2020-09-03perf tools: Add bpf image check to __map__is_kmoduleJiri Olsa
When validating kcore modules the do_validate_kcore_modules function checks on every kernel module dso against modules record. The __map__is_kmodule check is used to get only kernel module dso objects through. Currently the bpf images are slipping through the check and making the validation to fail, so report falls back from kcore usage to kallsyms. Adding __map__is_bpf_image check for bpf image and adding it to __map__is_kmodule check. Rename enum dso_kernel_type to enum dso_space_type, which seems like better fit. And add the '/' to avoid looking at things like "/system/libsomething", when all we want to know if it is like "/system/lib/something", i.e. if it is in that system library dir. Using strstarts() avoids off-by-one errors like recently fixed in this file. Since this adds the '/' I separated this patch, another patch will make this consistent by removing other strncmp(str, prefix, manually calculated prefix length) usage. 2020-03-11perf map: Fix off by one in strncpy() size argumentdisconnect3d
This patch fixes an off-by-one error in strncpy size argument in tools/perf/util/map.c. The issue is that in: strncmp(filename, "/system/lib/", 11) the passed string literal: "/system/lib/" has 12 bytes (without the NULL byte) and the passed size argument is 11. As a result, the logic won't match the ending "/" byte and will pass filepaths that are stored in other directories e.g. "/system/libmalicious/bin" or just "/system/libmalicious". This functionality seems to be present only on Android. I assume the /system/ directory is only writable by the root user, so I don't think this bug has much (or any) security impact. 2020-01-31perf maps: Add missing unlock to maps__insert() error caseCengiz Can
`tools/perf/util/map.c` has a function named `maps__insert` that acquires a write lock if its in multithread context. Even though this lock is released when function successfully completes, there's a branch that is executed when `maps_by_name == NULL` that returns from this function without releasing the write lock. Added an `up_write` to release the lock when this happens. And pick the shortest name: 'struct maps'. The split existed because we used to have two groups of maps, one for functions and one for variables, but that only complicated things, sometimes we needed to figure out what was at some address and then had to first try it on the functions group and if that failed, fall back to the variables one. That split is long gone, so for quite a while we had only one struct maps per struct map_groups, simplify things by combining those structs. Whenever an mmap/mmap2 event occurs, the map tree must be updated to add a new entry. If a new map overlaps a previous map, the overlapped section of the previous map is effectively unmapped, but the non-overlapping sections are still valid. maps__fixup_overlappings() is responsible for creating any new map entries from the previously overlapped map. It optionally creates a before and an after map. When creating the after map the existing code failed to adjust the map.pgoff. This meant the new after map would incorrectly calculate the file offset for the ip. This results in incorrect symbol name resolution for any ip in the after region. Make maps__fixup_overlappings() correctly populate map.pgoff. Add an assert that new mapping matches old mapping at the beginning of the after map. 2019-08-16perf unwind: Fix libunwind when tid != pidJohn Keeping
Commit e5adfc3e7e77 ("perf map: Synthesize maps only for thread group leader") changed the recording side so that we no longer get mmap events for threads other than the thread group leader (when synthesising these events for threads which exist before perf is started). When a file recorded after this change is loaded, the lack of mmap records mean that unwinding is not set up for any other threads. This can be seen in a simple record/report scenario: perf record --call-graph=dwarf -t $TID perf report If $TID is a process ID then the report will show call graphs, but if $TID is a secondary thread the output is as if --call-graph=none was specified. Following the rationale in that commit, move the libunwind fields into struct map_groups and update the libunwind functions to take this instead of the struct thread. This is only required for unwind__finish_access which must now be called from map_groups__delete and the others are changed for symmetry. Note that unwind__get_entries keeps the thread argument since it is required for symbol lookup and the libdw unwind provider uses the thread ID.
