2024-09-20RISC-V: Don't have MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS exceed phys_addr_tPalmer Dabbelt
I recently ended up with a warning on some compilers along the lines of CC kernel/resource.o In file included from include/linux/ioport.h:16, from kernel/resource.c:15: kernel/resource.c: In function 'gfr_start': include/linux/minmax.h:49:37: error: conversion from 'long long unsigned int' to 'resource_size_t' {aka 'unsigned int'} changes value from '17179869183' to '4294967295' [-Werror=overflow] 49 | ({ type ux = (x); type uy = (y); __cmp(op, ux, uy); }) | ^ include/linux/minmax.h:52:9: note: in expansion of macro '__cmp_once_unique' 52 | __cmp_once_unique(op, type, x, y, __UNIQUE_ID(x_), __UNIQUE_ID(y_)) | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ include/linux/minmax.h:161:27: note: in expansion of macro '__cmp_once' 161 | #define min_t(type, x, y) __cmp_once(min, type, x, y) | ^~~~~~~~~~ kernel/resource.c:1829:23: note: in expansion of macro 'min_t' 1829 | end = min_t(resource_size_t, base->end, | ^~~~~ kernel/resource.c: In function 'gfr_continue': include/linux/minmax.h:49:37: error: conversion from 'long long unsigned int' to 'resource_size_t' {aka 'unsigned int'} changes value from '17179869183' to '4294967295' [-Werror=overflow] 49 | ({ type ux = (x); type uy = (y); __cmp(op, ux, uy); }) | ^ include/linux/minmax.h:52:9: note: in expansion of macro '__cmp_once_unique' 52 | __cmp_once_unique(op, type, x, y, __UNIQUE_ID(x_), __UNIQUE_ID(y_)) | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ include/linux/minmax.h:161:27: note: in expansion of macro '__cmp_once' 161 | #define min_t(type, x, y) __cmp_once(min, type, x, y) | ^~~~~~~~~~ kernel/resource.c:1847:24: note: in expansion of macro 'min_t' 1847 | addr <= min_t(resource_size_t, base->end, | ^~~~~ cc1: all warnings being treated as errors which looks like a real problem: our phys_addr_t is only 32 bits now, so having 34-bit masks is just going to result in overflows. 2022-01-19riscv: Allow to dynamically define VA_BITSAlexandre Ghiti
With 4-level page table folding at runtime, we don't know at compile time the size of the virtual address space so we must set VA_BITS dynamically so that sparsemem reserves the right amount of memory for struct pages. 2019-11-12riscv: clean up the macro format in each header fileZong Li
There are many different formats in each header now, such as _ASM_XXX_H, __ASM_XXX_H, _ASM_RISCV_XXX_H, RISCV_XXX_H, etc., This patch tries to unify the format by using _ASM_RISCV_XXX_H, because the most header use it now. This patch also adds the conditional to the headers if they lost it. Signed-off-by: Zong Li <zong.li@sifive.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Walmsley <paul.walmsley@sifive.com>
2019-08-30RISC-V: Implement sparsememLogan Gunthorpe
Implement sparsemem support for Risc-v which helps pave the way for memory hotplug and eventually P2P support. Introduce Kconfig options for virtual and physical address bits which are used to calculate the size of the vmemmap and set the MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS. The vmemmap is located directly before the VMALLOC region and sized such that we can allocate enough pages to populate all the virtual address space in the system (similar to the way it's done in arm64). During initialization, call memblocks_present() and sparse_init(), and provide a stub for vmemmap_populate() (all of which is similar to arm64).
